THIRD ANNUAL HOOSICK PUNKIN CHUNKIN COMPETITION- The 3rd Annual Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza is a little over a month away and teams are already preparing for the exciting Punkin Chunkin competition. Last year five teams participated and the competition was intense. The crowd loved the spectacle and cheered wildly when the event was won on the final shot. Organizers are hoping the excitement was contagious and even more teams join the fun this year! Is it your year to win? The goal of the punkin chunkin is to create a non-motorized machine to launch pumpkins at targets from 100 to 250 feet away. Each team has three shots to hit the targets including a moving target that earns a bonus. Points are earned for distance and accuracy. The winning team receives the Golden Pumpkin Award, as well as a check for $250. The competition is open to all families, businesses, organizations, groups of friends. Registration information and competition rules are available online at www.hoosickyouth.org. The Punkin Chunkin is part of the Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza, set for September 23-25, 2011 in the Village of Hoosick Falls. The chunkin will be held on Saturday, September 24 at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and teams must be ready for a safety inspection at 9 a.m. The competition begins at 9:30 a.m. The public is invited to come and watch the excitement. Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza is a pride and tradition initiative organized by the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3). Local sponsors and community members work together to make the event a success each year. To be part of this community-building event, contact Aelish or Beth at 518-686-9050 or visit www.hoosickyouth.org.

THIRD ANNUAL APPLE FESTIVAL IN CAMBRIDGE .Celebrate autumn, apples and award-winning pies at the Third Annual Apple Festival organized by the Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce. This outdoor event is set for Saturday, October 1 in Railroad Park at the Cambridge Hotel on Main Street in Cambridge. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN BAKE? We challenge YOU to bake the perfect apple pie. Beginning at 11 a.m., the park will be filled with the scent of apple pies being tasted, gobbled and admired. The Chamber is organizing an Apple Pie Bake-off, open to all amateur bakers, budding chefs & chef wannabes, (no professional bakers or chefs please). The winning contestants name will have the opportunity to be placed on the Fall/Winter menu of the Cambridge Hotel and the recipe to be used by the Hotel for the season, as the famous Pie ala Mode, along with other prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd best pies. The winners will be chosen by a combination of public voting and professional judging. To register for the bake-off or to find out more information, please go to www.cambridgenychamber.com and click on the events page. This information is also available in printed form. Please contact the Chamber by phone 677-0887 for an application. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN EAT AN APPLE PIE (ALA MODE OF COURSE) FASTER THAN ANYONE? The hands-free pie eating event was a huge attraction last year. Contestants must finish their pie and ice cream first to claim the prize. Open to all ages, this event is good (and messy) fun for entrants and spectators! CRAFTS, VENDORS AND MORE! In addition to the apple pie events, there will be childrens activities, crafts, vendors, local music, great food and fun. In the evening the Cambridge Hotel is sponsoring great music by Full Tilt so the party continues! Volunteers & Vendors Needed. If you would like to get involved, become a vendor or volunteer to help, any and all help is appreciated. The Chamber holds its regular monthly board meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 pm at the Cambridge Village offices, North Park Street, Cambridge. Visit www.cambridgenychamber.com for more information or feel free to contact the Chamber by e-mail (cambridgechamber@gmail.com), phone (518-677-0887).

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO LIVE IN AN ARAB COUNTRY TODAYduring this time of great change in the region ? The First Baptist Church, Hoosick Falls is hosting a noon luncheon that addresses this question Thursday, September 22nd with missionary Daniel Chetti as guest speaker. Daniel and his wife Sarah live and work in Beirut, Lebanon. Daniel teaches at the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary, which has students from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Sudan. He also serves in the International Church in Beirut , as well as a Sudanese Congregation there. Sarah ministers in the seminary library and to women in a local prison. When war broke out in July 2006, the Chettis decided to remain despite bombs dropping nearby and offer help with food and supplies to civilians in the turmoil. They have been able to identify with the people of this resilient and diverse region, and share the love and peace of God through Jesus Christ. Students they have worked with have a vital role among their people. The First Baptist Church, located at 80 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY invites all interested in hearing of the power of the Gospel in this strategic area of the Near East. There is no charge for the noon luncheon, but there will be a plate for an offering. Please call the church office 518-686-5779 by Monday, September 19th indicating name and number planning to attend, so that we may have adequate provision.
