Pastors Corner ~
THE NEW TRANSLATION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL PART 3 SOME CHANGES AND THEIR MEANING The Greeting: The Lord be with you The Response: And with your spirit
Every time the priest greets the people with The Lord be with you, the response will be, And with your spirit. This response in the original Latin text is, Et cum spiritu tuo. It acknowledges the Holy Spirits activity through the priest during the sacred liturgy. By virtue of ordination, the priest acts in the person of Christ, and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he performs the sacred rites of the Mass, especially the consecration. It is not just the person of the priest that we respond to, but to the spirit as the primary actor in the sacred liturgy.

Its not to late to enroll in Religious Education

The Confiteor
Notice that when we pray, I confess to Almighty God, the words through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault were added. The new translation better reflects the Latin text and helps us to cultivate a more humble, sorrowful attitude towards God against whom we have sinned. The repetition of the words of repentance expresses more fully sorrow over our sins. God is not just an ordinary person to whom we can apologize. To Him we should express heartfelt contrition and humble admission of guilt.

The Gloria
Some of the phrases in the old translation were rearranged to conform to the Latin original text. The most obvious change in the new translation is that Jesus is being addressed as Only Begotten Son. This reflects the biblical language in Johns gospel which uses similar wording to describe Jesus singular relationship with the Father. Jesus alone is the eternal, divine Son by nature. He is the Only Begotten Son of the Father (see John 1:14, 18; 3:16,18).
