Exercise 4: Stabilisation with Zener diode Lets consider the figure below, where an oscilloscope is used to visualise the waveform of the voltage across the load R.

The Zener diode has the following characteristics. Zener voltage : Uz = 10V Maximal forward current: 50mA. Maximal reverse voltage: 50mA

1. Draw the waveform of the load voltage observed on the oscilloscope. 2. Calculate the value of the resistance R that permits to limit the forward current at 50mA. 3. Using the resistance calculated above, determine the maximal reverse current. 4. We have a resistor Ro = 300 , 1Watt. a) Determine the maximal current that the resistor can withstand. b) Can we use this resistor for our circuit?

5. Determine the instant t1 at which the diode will begin to conduct and the time t2 at which it will stop conducting within a period (t1 and t2 should be expressed as function of the period T). 6.
