A conjecture was transfigured to a brewing impulse to build a lunabot by motivating and disseminating words of Honorable Vice Chancellor of DTU,

Prof P.B Sharma urging his student fraternity to excel in the fields of research and development. NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, resurrecting its space endeavour, extrudes ideas and innovations from graduates and under graduates student teams from sundry of disciplines by organizing LUNABOTICS MINING COMPETITION annually at NASA SPACE KENNEDY CENTER, Florida USA. The competition seeks enthusiasts to design, build and dig the simulated lunar regolith under categorical constraints. NASAs Lunabotics Mining Competition is designed to promote the development of interest in space activities and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. Under the esteem guidance of Honourable Vice Chancellor of DTU Prof P.B Sharma, we want to form a team in the college for achieving the stated aim and add to the legacy of research and development that DTU has pioneered over last seven decades.

STATEMENT OF PROPOSAL
We endeavour to enstructure a lunabot under the provisioned constraints capacitated by NASA. The competition urges engineering minds to make an autonomous or telerobotically governed robot which can excavate and dump a simulant of lunar dirt called regolith in a stipulated time frame. The robot has visual and auditory isolation from the operator. The venue of the event is NASA SPACE KENNEDY CENTER, Florida USA.

The expected budget for the lunabot competition is 12 lakhs INR, detailed analysis of which is presented hereafter. We envisage a favour of 40% of the budget, amounting to about 5 lakhs INR, from the behest of college administration. This grant will help us to build the lunabot and the rest 60% of capital including travelling, transportation and miscellaneous will be accommodated by private sponsorship.

Future Positives:
1. Autonomous Bots are field of interest in defense , surveillance and space exploration where humans accessibility is endangered or remote. 2. Commercially viable as there are companies that show keen interests in manufacturing future mining excavators for space programmes. 3. Advances in mining of lunar regolith have potential to contribute significantly to INDIAS ISRO 2020 space vision. 4. Helium 3 a compound present in abundance has been recognized as future fuel. 5. Gain in technical and theoretical knowledge. 6. It would be 1st Indian team from a well known institute DTU to participate in this competition. 7. The lunar excavators can also be used in coal mines where the coal bed is bit loose. 8. This participation will lay a platform for other university students to get encouraged and participate in similar competitions. 9. It will improve the awareness about space exploration in our nation.
