Method by Pedro: Portland cement was bought in a nearby hardware. Store.

It was screened using a tyler screen mesh #270. Cement particles that passed through the 53 micrometer opening was collected for feed sample. The sand sample was also screened using a tyler screen mesh number eighteen and mesh number sixty. Particles that passed the mesh # 18 but did not pass mesh # 60 screen were kept for sample use. A laboratory sieve shaker was used for about 20 25 min for each screening of cement and sand samples. Feed samples consisting of 50 grams of cement and san samples were weighed and mixed thoroughly together to form a homogenous mixture. The experimental set-up is represented by Figure 2. The electric blower was switched on. The dust feed sample was introduced in the feed tank little by ltitle in order to have a constant flow of the dust feed sample. A timer was used to monitor how long it would be finished. The solids federate for each sample was obtained by dividing the amount of dust sample by the time it takes to finish one trial. When no sample was left in the feed tank, the blower was switched off. The dust collected in the reservoir beneath the cyclone separator was obtained. The dust separated was then weighed and screened using tyler screens. After screening of about 20-25mins, the cement and sand samples were weighed separately. This procedure was repeated for other trials. Pedro, Bernard Santos (Design, fabrication and testing of a cyclone separator unit) April 1993 Method by Vera: The experiment set up is shown. An electric blower that could produce a maximum gas velocity of 41.67 ft/sec was used. A voltage regulator was also used to control the outpout velocity of the blower; the lower the voltage used by the blower, the slower was its outpout. The blower was switched on and a sample was placed in the feed hopper. The vibrating feed hopper was then switched on and its valve was opened so that the sample entered the pipe and got suspended in the flowing gas. The blower was then switched off at the end of each trial or when there was no more sample in the unit. A timer was used to monitor the time elapsed in one trial. The dust collected was then obtained and weighed. When cment was used, the collected sample was screened using the tyler screens previously mentioned to separate the cment from the sand before it was weighed. The voltage was then reduced to obtain a slower output velocity and the whole procedure was repeated. This was done until a drop in collection efficiency was observed. Two trials wer conducted for each gas velocity setting. The different gas velocities used were then measured after each run using the flow meter.
