UNIVERSITI PERTAHANAN MALAYSIA KEM SUNGAI BESI LAB 3 FLOW THROUGH V-NOTCH

Objectives
1) To obtain a power factor of H by experiment 2) To determine discharge coefficient, Cd of the V-notch

Apparatus
A V-notch plate, point gage, stop watch and hydraulic bench.

Background
A variety of devices and methods are available for measuring fluid flow in the field and in the laboratory. One of these devices that can be used for flow measurement, especially for open channel flow, is weir. Essentially, a weir is a simple overflow structure extending across a channel and normal to the direction of flow. Various types of weirs exist, and they are generally classified by shape. In this experiment, a thin plate 30 0 or 900 V-notch weir will be used for flow measurement.

Expected Results
Plot and compute; 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. A graph of log Q versus log H Obtain the slope of the graph which is the value of n by experiment. Calculate percentage different of n. Obtain the intercept of the graph line on the axis-y which gives the value of log k Calculate Cd and calculate its percentage different.

Discussion
Discuss about your result and graph. Discuss percentage different of n Discuss percentage different of Cd If the percentage different is big, explain why..

Conclusion
Conclude your result and finding. Suggestion for improvement if any.
