Position Overview Memphis City Schools Office of Strategic Teacher Recruitment and Staffing (STARS) is now hiring selectors to interview both certified and alternatively-certified candidates who apply through Teach Memphis. Selectors will be part-time employees who both prescreen and conduct interviews using the STARS Selection Model. Selectors are required to attend three 4-5 hour training sessions (and will be compensated $100 total for attending). Selector compensation will be $4 per prescreen and $9 per phone interview, with the opportunity for performance bonuses. Serving as a selector for the Office of Strategic Teacher Recruitment and Staffing is a unique opportunity for teachers and administrators that will provide: Valuable professional development conducting interviews and assessing candidates A hand in shaping Memphiss newest teachers The ideal candidate for this opportunity will demonstrate: Excellent time management Strong critical thinking skills Flexibility and persistence The ability to work in a cooperative setting Openness and responsiveness to feedback Willingness to provide own phone and internet usage Familiarity with high-need schools (strongly preferred) Familiarity with Memphis City Schools (strongly preferred) At least 1 full year of experience as a Memphis City School teacher or administrator (strongly preferred) Selector Responsibilities

Successfully complete three 4-5 hour selector training sessions (see next page for options) Prescreen 15-20 candidates per week using eligibility rules and prescreen quality scoring. Although these screens may initially take longer, the expectation is that eventually, selectors will be able to conduct 5-7 in an hour, ultimately requiring 3 hours of screening per week.

Selectors will be expected to provide their schedule at beginning of season.

Interview 7 candidates per week (on average) using selection model. Although these interviews may initially take longer, the expectation is that eventually, selectors will be able to conduct 2-3 in an hour, ultimately requiring 3.5 hours of interviews per week. Selectors will be expected to conduct 4 interviews during the work-week based on an agreed-upon schedule, and also conduct 10 interviews during one Saturday per month. Selectors will be expected to provide their schedule at beginning of season (with the possibility that it would change based on availability and number of applicants). Participation in the above will total an average of 7 hours of work each week (at minimum), which includes the necessary time tracking and timesheet entry responsibilities. Use personal internet and phone capabilities (landline or cell with unlimited minutes) Be available for possible in-person events (week nights and/or weekends) employing the same model used for phone interview screening. Use the selection model to document decisions thoroughly. Return completed files with all documentation within the required timeframe (weekly tracking charts and interview documentation within 24 hours of interview). Attend two all-selector meetings during the mid-point of the selection season (tentatively January and May). Respond in a timely manner to staff inquiries regarding use of selection model, interview documentation, and other related administrative requirements. Meet to review and discuss selection decisions with program staff, as necessary. Manage personal scheduling accurately and efficiently, being in constantly communication when emergencies and unexpected circumstances arise. We anticipate this role extending from November 2011 August 2012. If you foresee any long absences or lack of availability, please plan to bring these dates to my attention at the interview. Also, please be prepared to discuss your training availability at the interview as well.
