Why Arts Matter
Listening Script
Why Is Art So Important
Art represents an investment on which
there is virtually no return. However, there is no
argument that art is not important. Then, why is,
art important? There are some reasons why art
contributes an important part to society.
First, the arts stimulate the growth of the
creative sector in the economy. They play an
important part in strengthening and shaping the
marketplace's ideas. The creation, management,
and distribution of art employ many. Not only isit
economically viable, but arts also help fulfill self-
expression, Research studies from Newcastle
University, back in 2013, revealed that attending
art exhibitions and viewing contemporary art
stimulates multiple cognitive perceptions of the
elderly. There is also a demonstrable, positive
correlation between schoolchildren’s grades in
math and literacy and their involvement with
art-related activites.
Second, painting, sculpture, literature,
and other arts are often considered to be the
repositories of a society’s collective memory. Art,
inthis sense, serves as communication. It allows.
people from different cultures and different times.
to engage with each other via images, sounds,
and stories. Art is often a vehicle for social
change. It can give voice to those who feel
politically or socially marginalized. A painting, a
Photograph, or even a simple drawing can stir
‘emotions in those who encounter it, inspiring
them to rally for change.
Third, arts connect society to its past and
people to its inherited ideas. The arts challenge
those connections to find ways of exploring
new journeys. The arts are evolutionary and
revolutionary; they listen, they revive and they
guide. They resist the homogeneous, strengthen
the individual, and are independent in the face
of the pressures of the mass, the bland, and
the undifferentiated. The return is far beyond
palpable of how big or small investments in this,
sector can be. Art's true value lies in transforming
research into ideas. Real art might fail every
measurable objective set by economists and
Politicians. But art is always art, no matter its
variable outcome.
‘As.can be seen from the arguments, itcan be
concluded that the contribution of art has given
‘a major impact on every sector of society.

The Importance of Museums
Museums are seen in every city, in every
Part of the world. They act as valuable storage
houses for the history of human civilization and
the evolution of life on this planet. In this article,
we will discuss the importance that museums
hold in our lives.
The role of museums today is the preservation
of history. Museumsstore artifacts that have
a significant cultural, religious, scientific, and
historical value that denotes significant turning
points in the history of mankind and of the planet
in general. itis thanks to the museums that we
can look and objects that marked significant
achievements by man. They provide tangible
TO SS TCEproof of history and help us identify ourselves in
context. Museums help in preserving the cultural
remnants and provide proof of man’s survival
through the ages. It is through museums that
we can get a solid, evidence-backed glimpse
into our past.
The museum holds a place of prime
importance in the field of education. Any
‘education is incomplete without proper cultural
‘education and awareness, and museums play
an undeniable role in this respect. A museum
holds the cultural history of a nation and its
many inhabitants, along with the history of
other cultures as well. The only other mode of
imparting cultural history to a nation would be
through verbal dissertations, and that is not as
effective as museums since it lacks the element
of being able to interact and physically see and
touch the artifacts being presented.
Mankind can't progress if we are not aware of
‘our past, and museums provide the only window
to our history. The artifacts stored and displayed
museums help us to understand where we
came from, and thus determine where we are
going. For instance, the Holocaust museums in
different parts of the world help us know about
the immensely mindless atrocities that humans
once committed against fellow humans, and
that makes it possible for us to know why such
atrocities should never be committed again.
Similarly, the relies of a country’s great past in
its museums invoke the spirit of nationality and
propel the nation to stand up and be great again.
Based on those reasons, we as the young
generation must realize the necessity of
museums. Museums are the key to learning our
history and our identity. itis a must to preserve
our museums.

Fractured Cinderella
‘Once upon a time, man could not resolve his
problem without resorting to extreme measures.
The world couldn't recover easily,
Humanity sheltered in underground vaults
and lived out their lives there. In particular,
one girl, Eleanor, who was widely known as
‘Cinder’, was living in a section of a vault with
her stepmother and stepsister. Her mother had
long since passed and her father ran away and
was never seen again. So, she was confined
to the quarters of her step-relative where she
cleaned all day and much of the night.
Cinder was very clumsy. She would often
slip up in common tasks and would never take
her time as she wanted to get as much as she
could in the shortest amount of time possible.

party, But Cinder would not be discouraged, for
she had a plan
Cinder had her robot, whom she called her
“Ferrous” Godmother. She would always help
her clean and was always at her side. She would
clean for Cinder, and Ginder would be able to go
to the dance.
She also made Cinder a beautiful metal
dress. She gave her some advice, saying
"YOU SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR YOUR STEP-
RELATIVES. THEY WOULD NOT BE HAPPY
‘TO SEE YOU AWAY FROM YOUR CLEANING.”
She wished her good luck with the prince, and
away Cinder went
As Cinder excitedly raced down the tight
hallways, being as clumsy as she was, she
tripped, fell, and broke part of her dress off. She
was disappointed with herself, but she knew
that she needed to press on and make it to the
party.
The leader of the bunker was very well
respected. He had assumed control of the
bunker when his father passed away not long
‘ago. He was ambitious to find the love of his life,
and he had a feeling in his gut that today would
be that day.
As she arrived, Cinder noticed the leader
glancing about the room, with seeking eyes.
She ran up to him and introduces herself, and
the night developed from there.
The two spent most of the night together,
talking, dancing, and sharing experiences. They
never left each other's sides and bonded tightly
to one another.
As the leader was about to propose to Cinder,
there was a shout from the back of the room.
Cinder immediately recognized this as her
stepmother, and bolted from the party, leaving
the leader in shock and alone.
As she ran, she thought she could hear her
stepmother chasing after her. She scrambled
into the first room she could find without stopping
to think of where she had gone. She did not know
that she had wandered into the most dangerous
part of the bunker. The reactor room.
‘As Cinder stood in this dark room, she
thought of the consequences she'd face fromf her stepmother. She'd have to clean for months
straight! She also felt a slight burning, but she
figured this was because she felt scared and
alone, in trouble, and in the dark.
Cinder left the room she was hiding in and
quickly made her way back to her chamber.
When she arrived, the walls were sparkling with
cleanliness. She might not be in much trouble
afer all. She went to sleep in a much better
‘mood.
Cinder awoke to a knock on the door. When
she answered, the handsome young man she
danced with the night before was standing there.
‘Greetings, I've never seen you around here
before, nor anyone quite like you. Who might
you be?” He asked. Cinder replied, "You don't
recognize me? I'm Cinder! We danced together
just last night!”
've never seen you before!” the leader
cried. “I guess my love isn't in here... Thank
you anyway.” A tear ran down Cinder's face as
the leader began to leave the room. But then, a
shout came from one of the other rooms in the
chamber,
“Im the one you've been looking for!" cried
Cinder's stepsister, stepping out of her room. Her
sister and the leader hugged and left together,
singing as they went. Cinder was devastated,

Seriously, Cinderella Is So Annoying!
The Story of Cinderella Told by the Wicked
Stepmother
You must have heard of me. The wicked
stepmother? That's not true. It's just another
‘one of Cinderella's wild stories. Not as wild as
the one about the pumpkin or the one about the
fairy godmother. The real story, the true story,
began with some chatter — and some dust.
‘All | ever wanted was a husband and a
mansion, Before | married Cindy's father, my two
darlings and | had met Cindy only a few times.
The girl had seemed normal then.
‘After | married Cindy's father, my darlings and
I moved in. When | had just one foot on the front
step, my dear husband kissed me goodbye and
said, "I'm off on business!"
“He's often away,” Cindy said, “but the
animals stay put. They talk. They joke. They sing.
They even help out — especially the bluebirds.
Now, I don't mind a good story but | do prefer
facts to fiction. Soon, the girl was talking all kinds
of nonsense.
TO SS eTf ‘Once upon a time,” Cindy said, “one of
the bluebirds became blue. Not the color. The
feeling. His friend had flown south ...”
My darlings and | were stuck near the front
door. I just wanted to put away my bags. That's
when | saw it: dust.
“Dear, is the whole house this dusty?” |
asked.
“1 don't know," Cindy said. “I'll give you a
tour!
In the dining room, Cindy told stories.
In the study room, Cindy told stories,
Non-stop.
‘Girls,"| said, “time to got to work. This place
needs a good cleaning.”
‘Once upon a time, when | was cleaning ...
Cindy started,
Cindy mopped the floor. She finished so fast,
while my darlings had barely started.
‘Did you know robins and sparrows are my
friends?’ she sald. “The sparrows don't like the
robins, though. Silly creatures! Once upon a
time, one of the robins -
“Cindy, dear,” | said, “why don't you go and
wash the clothes now, hmm?"
Cindy washed them so fast! How on earth did
she do it? | had to find another chore for her, just
to keep her busy.
If there's one thing squirrels love, it's
washing clothes,” Cindy said. "The rats, though,
would rather iron. You know, one day |
"Squirrels and rats doing laundry? Stop telling
such foolish stories!” | finally said
Time passed, but nothing changed
In the garden, Cindy told stories.
In the kitchen, Cindy told stories.
At dinner, I couldn't hear myself think
“Dear, please," | said, “STOP TALKING!”
Cindy didn't stop.
‘One day, a letter arrived, It was an invitation
to the king's ball. The prince would surely fallin
love with one of my darlings. Then, they would
marry, live in a beautiful castle, and one day be
king and queen of all the land!
“Oh, stepmother, | want to go, too!” said
Cindy.
“Once upon a time, a girl and a prince
Then — just like that — Cindy lost her voice.
Imagine! It had to be from all that storytelling,
Well, what could | do? | told Cindy she had
to stay at home for her health. She cried, of
course. Stil, a ball was no place for a poor git.
She needed rest.

Sometimes, it’s so hard being ay
stepmother.
At the ball, my darlings twirled. They
whirled.
Then, a strange girl waltzed in. Her gown
was magnificent. | couldn't take my eyes off
it. wondered how much it had cost and if my
seamstress could copy it for me.
‘The prince and the girl danced and pranced
My poor darlings were left prince-less.
A few days later, the prince made an
announcement. A glass slipper had been left at
the castle. The prince would marry the girl whose
foot it fitted, Our big chance!
After visiting every other mansion in the city,
the prince’s footman arrived at our door.
le! Me!" said one of my darlings,
Each girl tried, but the shoe didn't fit.
‘Then, Cindy croaked out a whisper. "Please
—let— me —try.”
The shoe fitted! Cindy pulled out the other
glass shoe from her apron pocket.
“Whaaaaaaaat?” my darlings cried
Cindy croaked again. She said something
about a “pumpkin coach” and “mice that
turned into horses’. She even added a “fairy
godmother’. Please! There’s no such thing!
I must say, though, | still don't know where
she got those shoes
‘A few days later, the prince married Cindy.
Poor man. He had no idea what he was getting
himself into. We, on the other hand, lived happily
‘ever after!

The assessment will be based on the students’
understanding, creativity, and analysis on the
fairy tales. For example:
Cinderella is the daughter of a widower who
married again and then passed away, leaving
his daughter under her stepmother's care.
Cinderella is downtrodden, overworked, of
good character but sadly mistreated for no good
reason (we're on her side). Her spiritbroken, she
dreams of living the life her stepsisters’ lead
Every leading character in a story desperately
wants something for the duration of the book, but
what they want in the first act isn't always their
overall want, They also have a deeper need,
which will last until itis resolved at the end of
the story
To SS eTf ‘The protagonist's want is solidified; in this
case Cinderella now desperately wants to
go to the ball so she can marry the prince. A
simplification of this is that she wants to marry
the prince. She goes a jouney taking action
to try and get what she wants, but comes up
against all sorts of mounting obstacles. She
meets an obstacle, has a reaction, then tries to
‘overcome it. At the midpoint of this act, a huge
obstacle will get in the way of the protagonist's,
goal. She will have a major reaction, which will
bring about a twist in what she wants, This will
lead toa situation where it seems all is lost for our
protagonist and there is no way she can recover.
‘The action takes off again. The protagonist
thinks her big chance to get what she wants has
finally come. But at the climax of the act, and the
final climax of the story, a major obstacle gets
jn her way. Our protagonist must take a final
definitive action to achieve what she wants.
Activity 2
The students will modify the story into fractured
tales. The assessment will be based on the stu-
dents’ understanding, narrative structure, and
creativity.
Forexample, youcan change the setting of place
and time of the story. Even, youmay also change
the name of the character. By changing some
elements, the fractured fairy tales can be made.
