What is the mean weight of 5
students, whose weights are as
under:
1 - 49
 2 – 56

 3 – 78

 4 – 34

 5 – 67

 The average weight = sum / number

 =284 / 5 = 56.8 answer.

www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOOL MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS

What is the mean wei ght of 5 students,
whose wei ghts are as under – usi ng
indi rect method ?

Step 1 – let us assume 50 as

mean.
mean = 50
Step 2 : let us take difference
49 -1 from 50 for all values.
56 6 Step 3: let us total up all
these differences - we get
78 28 34. let us divide 34 by 5. =
34 -16 6.8
Let us add 6.8 to assumed
67 17
mean = 50+6.8 = 56.8
answer.
34

AM is 30, GM is 24, what will be
HM?
 GM = geometric mean
 AM = arithmetic mean
 HM = harmonic mean
 GM^2 = AM * HM
 24^2 = 30 * X
 576 = 30 X
 X = 576/30
 X = 19.2 answer.

www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOOL MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS

What is GM of 40 and 60?
 Geometric Mean is calculated by
multiplying the two numbers and then
taking their square root.
 GM = square root of (40 * 60)

 =square root of 2400

 GM = 48.99 answer.

www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOOL MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS

What is HM of 40 and 60?
 Let us first add 1/40 and 1/60.
 This is 100 / 2400 because = [(X+Y)/XY]

 Now let us multiply it by ½

 We get 100 / 4800

 Now let us reverse it : 4800 / 100

 We get 48 – this is HM or harmonic

mean of 40 and 60.

www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOOL MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS

What is AM of 40 and 60?
 AM = arithmetic mean

AM = sum / numbers
Let us add 40 and 60, we get 100
Let us divide 100 by 2
We get 100/2 = 50 answer.

www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOOL MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS

What is the modal value among
3,4,5,6,7,5,7,8,4,5,4,3,5,4,4,8,9,10,12,
13,15,11,23,12,11,21,21,10,2,3,9,4,3?
 Among these values, we find that 2 is
coming once, 3 comes 4 times, 5 comes
4 times, 4 comes 6 times (which is
highest number). Thus 4 is modal value
– because it has highest frequency. We
can use tally bars for finding frequency
and sum up the frequency and find out
the answer.

www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOOL MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS

What is the GM of 8,24 and 40?
 Let us multiply 8,24 and 40 = 7680
 Now let us find cubic root of 7680

 We can find the factors of 7680 as 2^9

*3*5 = thus we can take 2^3 as one
cubic root. However, we
 Thus we get 8 * cubic root of 15

.
