Park 4 Dawn Park Mr. Coyner English 22 May 2011 Legalizing Gay Marriages Is homosexuality right or immoral, if its suitable, should homosexual marriages be legitimate? Homosexuality seems like a question that can be answered with a simple, yes or no, but it is much more complicated than that. There are different views to homosexuality starting from teen ages to even the government, but legalizing this queer culture can make a vast impact in the society of the world. Which will it be, legalizing gay marriages or just leaving the society as is? Literature Review According to Paul the apostle, although in the beginning Adam brought sin into this world, homosexuality or sexual immorality is against the Law of God. When God created the world, man brought sin allowing humans to have a sinful nature. Not making sinning okay but sinning a part of human life. Homosexuals and the sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God, and Paul suggests that people flee from the immoral. That being homosexual is not by nature but by choice and that the acts of a homosexual are indecent. The homosexuals are given depraved minds from God as a punishment. Paul says that the homosexual and sexually immoral are forever wrong and against the law (Paul). Another idea, by balanced politics is that homosexual marriages should be legalized. In present time homosexuals and the sexually immoral are accepted in society and lifestyle nowadays. With these homosexual marriages less children will be alone at the home shelters because they adopt faster, increasing child adoption rates. Being married to the right person is true but the only thing that matters in a marriage should be love. In addition, denying these marriages can be minority discrimination. Therefore balanced politics agrees to the idea of homosexual marriages (Mersserli). 4

Park 5 A third writer, public agenda states that being homophobic shouldnt be denied and that they should have the same basic rights of a citizen. The homosexuals are denied employment, and housing, they are unable to obtain official recognition. Public agenda believes that the federal government should give them protection. Depending on the comfort level of an area homosexual can walk out of the closet ("Gay Rights"). A fourth source, psychology today states that homosexuality is a Darwinian Mystery. Being homosexual is a long thought to be a psychiatric disorder and a result of a distant father or a sensitive mother. Also Stanford University states that homosexuality is socially constructed. Homosexuality is a strange theory, and that even in the ancient Roman times the Roman society slowly had a negative attitude towards sexuality. Their beliefs are unable to be concluded rather than to say that Stanford University believes that homosexuality is a debatable topic (Brent). Analysis There are many ideas to this topic but there are only two sides, choosing whether or not homosexual marriages should be legalized. These ideas have different points, and reason of why they are part of this debate. One idea is that homosexuality and sexual immortality is unreasonable and sinful towards God, but thats only in a Christians view. Also this idea states that these homosexuals are immoral, and un-humanly. Which can be interpreted to if a person is homosexual does one have to hate? Another idea is that homosexual marriages should be legalized and that homosexuals should have a safe environment. For example, it is stated that people believe that the government should protect those who are homosexual because as teens and as adults they are bullied and hurt. These concepts are rather opposite theories and they have nothing in common.

Park 6 Conclusion According to all these sources, homosexuality is still debatable, and can be degrading of civil rights towards these people. They are not a different type of people but equals; there is no difference between a heterosexual and a homosexual. The only important aspect of marriage is love! Legalizing the marriages of homosexuals there will be more happiness, and less people breaking the law to have a marriage with the ones they love. I disagree with Mr. Brent that homosexuality and sexual immorality are psychiatric diseases.
