INTRODUCTION
Considering the various options available for income generation by means of bank linked self employment schemes, goat farming is the most ideal and commercially viable one. The proposed project is a Goat Farm at Neeravil in Thrikadavoor Panchayath area, Kollam district. Goat rearing provides subsidiary income to the farmers. Goat is poor man's cow as it can be replaced with gold. Income is derived from the meat, manure, dung and skin of animals. According to the 17th Quinquennial livestock census (2003), Kerala has a goat population of about 12.1373 lakhs, which is lower than national average. In Kerala, chevon is in high demand with almost 80% person consuming it, since it is free from all religious taboos. It has wider scopes including export potential in future. On selection of suitable stock fitting to the locality, goat rearing offers reasonable profit considering the outputs in comparison with inputs. Through the project it is intended to establish a 10 number parent unit and production of kids for meat purpose as a selfentrepreneurial venture with the boon of financial assistance anticipated through SBT.
