RESULTS AND DATA ANALYSIS

The figure above shows the product of the CNC Milling. The product has undergone milling processes by using CNC Milliing machine (Siemen 840D). The product took almost two hours to complete. The NC programme code is set up from the CATIA software. All the data from CATIA are transferred from the computer to the controller machine by using memory card. After that, the NC programme data are downloaded to the controller and stored. Then, the processes are running due to its command. The surface finish of the product is very smooth and shiny. The design of the product is almost similar with the design from the CATIA software. The accuracy of the machine is approximately almost 100%.

DISCUSSION Based on the result, the objective of the experiment has been successfully achieved. We

have identified and understood the CNC Milling system. We also have learnt how to develop a CNC machine programming. We studied how to do zero set up for the machine and workpiece and cut the sample of product. There are several errors have been discovered after the experiment such as apparatus error, human error and environment error. The apparatus error is where the computer is not working properly. Sometimes, the CATIA software is not running well and suddenly shut down. Moreover, the coolant of CNC milling machine is not topped up. If the coolant is finished, it may affect the product. Then, the human error occurred when the students are not editing the NC programme code in the controller because some of the machines cannot read the data directly. On the other hand, we have to prevent these errors from happened. So, the safety precaution must be taken. We have to make sure the machine is well-maintained. In addition, we have to ensure the machine components are ready and safe to use while the coolant must be topped up when the process is going to run. Moreover, CATIA software must be genuine to make sure all the updates can be received. Last but not least, the knowledge of the CNC machine must be applied to ensure the machine can work properly due to NC programme codes.

CONCLUSION CNC is a system in which a control microcomputer is an integral part of a machine or a

piece of equipment (onboard computer). The part program may be prepared at a remote site by the programmer, and it may incorporate information obtained from drafting software packages and from machining simulations to ensure the part program is bug free. The operator can modify the programs directly, prepare programs for different parts, and store the programs. It is classified as a non-traditional machining process that has no friction between the material and tool. The advantages of CNC over conventional machine beside the availability of low-cost programmable controllers also played a major role in the successful implementation of CNC in manufacturing plants. Finally, we have identified and understood the CNC Milling system. We also have learnt how to develop a CNC machine programming. We studied how to do zero set up for the machine and workpiece and cut the sample of product.
