Fisk University Vanderbilt University ing Partnership Program Nurs

Graduate Highlight: Brittany Briggs, MSN, NP-C Fisk 08 Vanderbilt 10

The Fisk-Vanderbilt Nursing Program has played an influential role in my life. I was a part of the first class of students (later deemed The Fisk Five) that matriculated through the Fisk-Vanderbilt BSN program.

After completing the Fisk-Vanderbilt joint nursing curriculum with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, I enrolled in Vanderbilts Masters of Science in Nursing program where I graduated in August 2010. I can say with confidence that if it were not for the Fisk-Vanderbilt joint nursing program my journey into the nursing field would most likely not have been the exceptional experience it has been thus far. I am currently a Nurse Practitioner at Metro Center Health Care Group in Nashville, Tennessee. In my position, I have the opportunity to provide service to the underserved and uninsured population as a part of my very fulfilling career.

Graduate Highlight: Courtney Hines, MSN, RN

Fisk 08 Vanderbilt 11

Since graduating, I have been able to advance quickly, working in various positions at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. My ultimate career goal is to become a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). I completed the BSN program in May of 2008 and since then I have been working my way up as a new professional. I began pursuit of my goal as a staff nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and I am currently a Nurse Case Manager in the NICU. I have just accepted a new position as an Assistant Nurse Manager in the Children's Hospital Outpatient Center Pediatric Gastroenterology (GI) Clinic, which I will begin in October 2011. I have benefited in many ways from the Fisk/Vanderbilt joint BSN Nursing Program and so many doors have been opened for me. Had it not been for the program, I don't know if I would be where I am today.

VUSN is committed to the continued partnership with Fisk University to provide a pathway for students interested in pursuing a career in nursing."
The Fisk Vanderbilt Nursing Partnership Program for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree continues for the 2011-2012 school year. Established in 2002, it allows students the opportunity to attend Fisk for five semesters and finish the last three semesters with clinical training at Vanderbilt. This relationship between Fisk University and Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) has actually been on-going since 1989. The earlier program was made available for students who were interested in having an undergraduate major at Fisk in another area (such as psychology, sociology, biology) and entering in the Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) program at Vanderbilt. The Fisk Vanderbilt relationship allows students the opportunity to fulfill the requirements for their major in the first three years of study at Fisk and entering in the sixsemester sequence for the MSN during their senior year.
