II.- Collocations for remedies / cures:


A collocation is a group of words that often go together and form a common expression. If the expression is heard often, the words become glued together in our minds. III.- Asking about health problems:


When someone does not feel very well and have some health problems, there are a number of ways to ask how he or she feels. Whats the matter?: Qu pasa? Whats wrong with (her)?: Qu le pasa (a ella)?, qu hay de malo (con ella)? Are you all right?: Ests bien? Do you feel well?: Te sientes bien? Whats the problem?: Cul es el problema? IV.- Complaining.
In English there are ways for expressing when you do not feel and have some health problems. These are some of the most common ways for expressing that situations:

V.- The use of Conditional IF:


When we have the word IF in a sentence, it implies that there is a condition for a result or outcome. That result or outcome is separated from the condition (IF) by a coma ( , ) in the sentence.
Examples: If the temperature of water reaches 100C, it boils. (the result is underlined) If you eat too many of those sweets, youll get a stomachache. (the result is underlined)

Divide the class in two or in groups (2, 4, 6, 8). One group of students will be The Patients and the other group will be The Doctors. Using all the phrases and structures studied / practiced before, The Patients will ask the other group for medical advice, and the Doctors will suggest some solutions. If the Patients are unhappy with the advice, they can go and get a second or third opinion from The Doctors.

Patient 1: Illness description: You have a cold, fever and headache since two weeks. You have been taking medicines at home, but your situation hasnt improved. Your body hurts and you dont feel like eating or drinking anything. Every time you eat something you throw up. Your task: You are going to see the doctor today. Plan a dialogue with the doctor. Patient 2: Illness description: You feel very sick. You have a fever and headache. You feel tired, your joints hurt badly and you feel very weak. You dont feel like eating anything. You have been keeping warm but you still feel bad. Your task: You are going to see the doctor today. Plan a dialogue with the doctor detailing your situation. Patient 3: Illness description: You have a cough since two weeks. The situation is not improving, but worsening. When you cough your back and stomach hurts. Your task: You are going to see the doctor today. Plan a dialogue with the doctor explaining how you feel. 15

Doctor 1: Illness description: Your patient has a broken leg. His/her leg hurts badly and the patient cant walk. To make it worse, the leg hurts badly. Your task: It is your job to help the patient. Plan a dialogue with the patient giving him / her at least five solutions to help the patient. Doctor 2: Illness description: Your patient has a sore throat and s/he can neither eat nor sleep at night. The patient feels terribly bad. To make it worse, fever and headache has worsened the situation. Your task: It is your job to help the patient. Plan a dialogue with the patient giving him / her at least five solutions to help the paitent. Doctor 3: Illness description: Your patient has been suffering from serious food poisoning. The patient visits the toilet very regularly. S/he has taken medicines and still does not feel better. To make things worse the patient cant eat. Every time the patient eats, s/he vomits.
