Greetings from IMI As you glance through the pages of this Admission Bulletin, you will realize that IMI has gone through a transformation and many more initiatives are underway to make IMI a truly global business school. Having been set up in 1981, with the collaboration of the erstwhile IMI Geneva, now IMD Lausanne, IMI is no stranger to the world of management education, having offered for the very first time ever in India an executive MBA programme.

About International Management Institute


International Management Institute (IMI), Indias first corporate sponsored business school was established in 1981, as an autonomous non-profit educational society in collaboration with International Management Institute, Geneva now IMD Lausanne. In its quest to achieve excellence, IMI is one amongst the seven Business Schools in South Asia to receive the SAQS accreditation in 2009. In 2011 IMI has opened its second Campus in Bhubaneswar in the temple city of Orissa.

Affiliations & linkages


With a view to continually benefit from professional interactions with some of the well-known Business Schools, IMI has consciously fostered academic linkages covering exchange, of faculty, curriculum development, institution building, and joint research and training. It has been fortunate to have had collaborations with International Institute for Management Development (IIMD) Lausanne, Switzerland; Faculty of Management, McGill University, Montreal, Canada; and Manchester Business School, U.K. In addition IMI has very active Student Exchange Programs with various B Schools in Europe, North America, Australia & Asia.

Education Programs
IMI offers four Post-graduate programs and one Doctoral program in its Delhi Campus and one Post Graduate program in its Bhubaneswar Campus. All programs are approved by AICTE. Programs offered by Delhi Campus: a) Fifteen months full-time Executive Post-graduate Diploma in Management (Ex-PGDM), for those with up to five years work experience; b) Two year full-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM); c) Two year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management- (PGDHRM); d) Three years Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Part-Time (PGDM-PT) for working managers with a minimum of 3 years work experience. e) Fellow Program in Management (FPM) Program offered by Bhubaneswar Campus: a) Two year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)

Faculty
IMI has on its rolls close to 50 faculty members, between the two campuses. Of the full time faculty members, about 75 percent have Doctoral qualifications from reputed Universities such as Wharton, Cornell, Rochester, Virginia, Maryland, Wisconsin-Madison and Yale besides the IIMs. IMI also has a unique mix of large number of faculty with extensive industry exposure, spanning across functional areas, in senior positions. In a recent survey conducted by rd Business World, IMI was ranked 3 in the domain of intellectual capital as also amongst the 15 super league business schools, in the latest AIMA survey.

Business Education and IMI


The management programs of IMI are designed to enable young professionals with high potential to reach landmark positions in their career. The programs revolve around the notion that world-class business leaders are not massproduced; they are customized and developed in an action-oriented environment. The Institute recognizes the importance of soft skill development and helps participants to develop these through the academic programs at the Institute.

Staying Close to Practice


IMIs programs are inspired by aligning academic theory with management practice. The real life relevance of the program is achieved through, the experienced faculty, who stay in constant touch with management practice by extensive field-based research and consulting activities.

Cultivating Integrative Capabilities


Keeping the growing complexity of business in mind, IMIs programs foster such integrative capabilities with crossfunctional modules that synthesize a number of specialized disciplines into a unified learning experience. Accordingly, participants develop skills through a case-based approach and are encouraged to analyze issues from several often conflicting viewpoints before deciding on a course of action.

Pedagogy:
IMI follows a pedagogy involving a mix of various modern and interactive forms apart from the lecture method. The others being an over whelming use of the Case method, role-plays, Presentations, Computer simulations, live field projects just to name a few.

Training & Consultancy


In keeping with its track record IMI has launched a major thrust in Executive Education, and a modest beginning has been made with the banking and financial services sector. Apart from capability building for the corporate world, such programs are great learning labs for the faculty. At a broader level, increased activities in executive training will improve branding, lead to better placements for our students, result in attracting better students and faculty.

Research at IMI
Research is a major priority at International Management Institute and is inextricably linked with effective management training. It is the Institutes objective to support companies in a changing world by combining theoretical progress and their implications in business. Indeed, we believe that close co-operation with the business sector and our alumni network is the essential precondition for a successful business activity. IMI is known for its excellent faculty and high quality intellectual capital. Many of the faculty members are actively involved in training, research and consultancy in areas that are of interest to them. Delhi & Bhubaneswar Campuses Delhi Campus:


IMI has an aesthetically designed Campus located alongside the green belt adjoining the majestic Qutab Minar in New Delhi. It provides a stimulating atmosphere, conducive to academic pursuits and all round development of a student.

The centrally air-conditioned academic complex consists of spacious lecture halls, the Tata Chemicals Computer Centre, BOC Executive Training Room, RPG Auditorium, Williamson Magor Library, Faculty Chambers and Administrative Offices. All lecture halls have a state-of-the-art electronic infrastructure providing a unique and wholesome classroom experience. The open-air Amphitheatre is the nodal point of campus-life and the hub for all informal interactions.

Tata Chemicals Computer Centre:


The Tata Chemicals Computer Centre has five servers (IBM, HP) with Windows 2008/2003, and Linux as the operating environment. The campus has a network of more than 600 plus computers with N-Series Campus Wide WiFi to ensure mobile computing at all locations including hostel rooms, amphitheatre and canteen. The campus has a 10 MBPS, 24-hour high-speed internet connectivity, to provide round the clock connectivity. Two high-tech computer labs are equipped with more than 100 (HP) computers having latest chip-set with TFT monitors for on-line classes.

Williamson Magor Library and Information Service


The Williamson Magor Library and Information Service offers access to a wide range of both printed and electronic sources with an increasing emphasis being placed upon electronic delivery of information to the diverse information needs of all our Students, Faculty, researchers, and staff. Most Journals are available electronically through the EBSCO and Emerald databases.

Students Residence:
The modern and aesthetically designed residence at Delhi forms an integral part of the academic and social life. Rooms are furnished and allotted on a double occupancy basis. Preference is given to outstation or foreign students on a first-come first-served basis. The residence provides students with excellent mess facilities, well-furnished rooms and recreational facilities including a modern air-conditioned gymnasium. Besides promoting group study and learning outside the classroom, the residential accommodation also enables participants to optimally utilize IMI resources like the library and computing facilities with internet and intranet available in all the hostel rooms.

Expansion plans
IMI has a locational advantage of being in the heart of the NCR. IMI is now on an expansion overdrive, with an outlay of approximately Rs.25 crores, to enhance the executive training infrastructure consisting of both, training rooms and residential facilities, classrooms and hostel rooms for students, besides faculty offices

Bhubaneswar Campus
The Bhubaneswar Campus has been developed in the Education City of Bhubaneswar, spread over 16 acres. The aesthetically designed exteriors, wide open spaces and large well appointed classrooms, syndicate rooms, multi use auditoriums are the hall mark. The Library and Computer Center are furnished with state of the art equipment. The hub of all student activities is the Cafeteria, which offers a hygienic environment and wholesome food. A high point of the Bhubaneswar campus is the self sufficient MDP Centre, with AC Lecture Halls and the executive residence.

Computer Centre:
IMI has a state of the art computing facility for the students on campus. The Computer Centre has One HP server with Windows 2008 R2 as the operating environment. The campus has high speed end-to-end Network with 60 plus computers. The campus has 10 mbps internet connectivity. The computer labs are equipped with more than 30 (HP) computers for on-line classes and practice sessions. The software library includes the latest software like, Windows 7/XP Professional, Microsoft Office 2007, Visual Studio 2007, MS Project 2010, Oracle 10i, MSDN Academic License, Quick Heal Anti Virus Server Client Editions, Tally ERP, Corel Draw, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro.

Library and Information Service:


The IMI Bhubaneswar Library is located in a spacious and centrally air-conditioned building spread over 6000 sq ft.. The Information Centre aims to support the diverse information needs of all our students, faculty, researchers, and staff through the provision of the ultra modern information resources and services. Besides access to business and management related digital resources it covers varied other disciplines most Journals are available electronically.

Students & MDP Residence


IMI Bhubaneswar campus is a fully-residential campus having 120 single-bed hostel facility equipped with all amenities including LAN connectivity, round the clock security, emergency medical services, uninterrupted power and water supply, transportation services and gym and indoor and outdoor sports equipment/facilities. The campus also has fully furnished 60 single-bed hostel for MDP (Management Development Programme) participants and six training halls equipped with the state-of-the-art audio-visual teaching aids. All the rooms and training halls have high speed LAN connection for accessing interest.

Student Activities
Student activities form an integral part of life at a B School and they range from Academic Centered Clubs to Social Clubs. These clubs are managed by students, under the overall guidance and supervision of a Senior Faculty member. Kritva, a 3 day annual cultural festival and the largest B-school fest in the national capital region is the high point in the students activity calendar. It is held in October, every year.

Scholarships and Awards


Merit scholarships are awarded to the students, of all programs, on the basis of outstanding cumulative academic performance. In addition a number Medals for Scholastic Performance are awarded at the end of the program during the Annual Convocation. In order to improve the quality of Summer Projects, from the year 2010, the Institute has instituted cash award for the three best summer projects.

Placements
The placement activity at IMI is students driven and is overseen by a senior faculty member. The endeavor of the activity is to provide opportunities for placements to all students seeking placement. Students are selected for this activity by the faculty coordinator with the senior student members, each year and students thereafter liaise with captains of industry and exploit the already strong linkages. Over the years, the placements at IMI have gained prominence with a number of new companies joining the process each year apart from old favorites. The average salary levels have also registered impressive growths.

Alumni
With over 4000 alumni in more than 10 countries, IMI, India students have been crucial to the rapid progress of the institute. Several of IMI students have also pursued higher studies in North America and now teach in such IVYleague institutions like MIT Sloan School of Management and Chicago Business School. Several IMI Alumni hold prestigious positions in business, government and industry across sectors and domains and including CEOs of large domestic and MNC companies.

The Program
IMIs two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management is designed to prepare students for careers in industry, across functional areas. The program equips students with strong conceptual skills to manage businesses in an integrated manner. The emphasis is on developing a holistic manager with a vision to take on the challenges of the future. The program is approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA and SAQS (South Asian Quality Assurance System).

Program Objective
The program has been offered with the following objectives. To build awareness about the socio-economic environment, both domestic & international and its implications for businesses To hone analytical and problem solving skills using modern day managerial tools to enhance decision making capabilities To impart state-of-art skills and knowledge in functional areas of management with the objective of preparing students for cross-functional positions in Industry To develop the students personality, integrated with strong values and positive attitude so as to be receptive to societal concerns and ethical conduct

Program duration
IMI follows the trimester system with the academic calendar beginning in June 2012 and each term being of 11-12 weeks duration. At the end of the first three terms of the program, all students are required to undergo compulsory summer internship for 8-10 weeks in industry.

Eligibility for admission Education background


To be eligible for admission to the PGDM Program, the participants must posses a Bachelors degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent in any discipline, recognized by the Association of Indian Universities for admission to post-graduate programs. The bachelors degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years education after completing higher secondary schooling under the 10+2 system or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final year of their bachelors degree or equivalent are also eligible, provided they furnish the proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria by September 30, 2012. Candidates who are unable to comply with this requirement may be asked to withdraw from the program. It is desired that candidates complete all academic requirements before joining the program to enable them to keep pace with the rigor and internal assessment schedule of the program. Participant profile Participants for the PGDM program may be from any discipline such as Engineering, Humanities, Commerce or Economics, Medicine or any other branch of education. Candidates with relevant work experience as also fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Admission Procedure
Application form IMI admission Bulletin can be downloaded from our website www.imi.edu Online application forms are available at http://admission.imi.edu

Fill up the online application form and submit the same along with the payment of Rs.1900, for one program. (payment by Credit Card/ Debit Card / Demand Draft in favor of International Management Institute, payable at New Delhi). Applications, complete in all respects, should reach the Admissions Office of IMI on or before November 18, 2011. Incomplete forms are liable to be rejected summarily. Admission Test Admission to the program is through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by The Indian Institute of Management at different Centers all over the country. The CAT examination will be held between October 22 and November 18, 2011. (Refer CAT Bulletin for further details). IMI will receive the test scores from the IIM for those candidates who have appeared in the CAT examination and have also applied to IMI for the PGDM program. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the program. Foreign students and NRI sponsored candidates are also eligible and are required to take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) at a test centre outside India, taken not earlier than November 2009, and submit such scores while applying to IMI. Selection process Candidates who have appeared for the CAT 2011 examination or furnished valid GMAT score and have applied to IMI will be short listed on the basis of information provided in the application form, CAT scores (sectional and overall) or GMAT score, educational background, marks in 10th, 12th, graduation and work experience. Only short listed candidates will be called for the final stage of the selection process. Group discussion/extempore speaking, personal interview besides other qualitative parameters, including and not restricted to essay writing, will constitute the core components of the final stage of the selection process. The overall objective being to identify and assess the candidates potential for a managerial career. Applicants should note that the mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for short listing by IMI. Interview Centers Besides Delhi, the selection process is normally conducted at other centers including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar. Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. Candidates should indicate their preferred center(s) for interview in the application form. If a candidates preferred centre is not allotted, for any reason, the candidate will be informed of the change. IMI reserves the right to change any of the centers for the selection process, without assigning any reasons. Admission Offer Admission offer will be based on the assessment made during the selection process, defined above, and a list of successful candidates will be announced on IMIs website and offer letters will thereafter be dispatched, to the mailing address provided in the application form. Successful candidates, who have been offered admission, will be required to pay the 1st installment of fee within two weeks of the date of offer, failing which the offer shall stand lapsed and admission will be offered to the next candidate on the waiting list, without any further intimation.

Curriculum
The course for the PGDM program is spread over six terms, each term being of 11-12 weeks. The first three terms are essentially devoted to foundation courses, across core areas of management. These are aimed at providing the student the conceptual understanding of the functional areas such as: a) Basic areas, eg, economics and organizational behaviour

Elective courses Courses in the 2nd year are designed to offer students an opportunity to pursue their interests in various functional areas. Students will have an opportunity to specialize in the functional area of their interest. A student can specialize in more than one area, the areas being Marketing, Finance, Information Systems and Operations. In the PGDM program specialization is not offered in the area of Organization Behaviour and Human Resource Management. A student also has an opportunity to pursue a Course of Independent Study (CIS) in lieu of an elective, to further his/her interest in a particular area, subject to meeting the conditions specified for the purpose and reviewed from time to time. List of elective courses, offered during the 2nd year of study, is given at the end of this bulletin. Summer Internship On completion of year one, students gain hands-on experience in the application of core concepts and functional skills. This practice of Learning by Doing helps the student relate to the rigor of theory in the world of business. The students work on projects as per the specification of the company. At the end of eight to ten weeks of such a closely guided project under the supervision of the company executive, they submit a report to the company. The concerned company executive normally provides feedback to the Program Director on the student performance. Summer internship is an essential requirement for the award of the IMI Diploma.

Faculty at IMI enjoys academic freedom to adopt appropriate pedagogy for imparting education. Pedagogy would be a combination of lectures, case discussions, presentations, assignments and project work. The primary emphasis would be on interactive and participative methods of learning. Faculty for the program is primarily in house from IMI but may also include visiting faculty. Guest lectures from industry practitioners are also organized to expose students to the current business environment.

Schedule of classes
Classes for the PGDM program are held every day starting at 8.30 am and can extend up to late evening hours, including weekends, to suit the requirements of the program. Each class is of 90 minutes duration. Attendance in all classes is compulsory. Classes shall tentatively begin, from the 2nd/3rd week of June 2012.

Evaluation
Emphasis is laid on continuous evaluation of a students performance through the six terms, culminating in a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score, over a 10 point scale, being awarded.

HR professionals with an in depth understanding of the fundamental issues of management and related-disciplines and who bring an insight for perceptive people management are increasingly in demand. Organizations, Consulting houses, Government, Institutional bodies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are continuously seeking the expertise of skilled HR professionals to address present and emerging challenges of managing the diverse needs of a growing human talent pool. At the end of the first three terms of the program, all students are required to undergo compulsory summer internship for 8-10 weeks in industry. Eligibility for Admission To be eligible for admission to the PGDHRM, the participants must posses a Bachelors degree or equivalent with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in any discipline under 10 + 2+ 3 system from a recognized University. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final year of their bachelor's degree are also eligible, provided they furnish the proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria by September 30, 2012. Candidates who are unable to comply with this requirement may be asked to withdraw from the program. It is desirable that candidates complete all academic requirements before joining the program to enable them to keep pace with the rigor and internal assessment schedule of the program. Admission Test Admission to the program is through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by The Indian Institute of Management at different Centers all over the country. IMI will receive the test scores from the IIM for those candidates who have appeared in the CAT examination and have also applied to IMI for the two- year PGDHRM program. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the program. Foreign students and NRI sponsored candidates are also eligible and are required to take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) at a test centre outside India, taken not earlier than November 2009, and submit such scores while applying to IMI. Selection process Candidates who have appeared for the CAT 2011 examination or furnished valid GMAT score and have applied to IMI will be short listed on the basis of information provided in the application form, CAT scores (sectional and overall) or GMAT score, educational background, marks in 10th, 12th, graduation and work experience. Only short listed candidates will be called for the final stage of the selection process. Group discussion/extempore speaking, personal interview besides other qualitative parameters, including and not restricted to essay writing, will constitute the core components of the final stage of the selection process. The overall objective being to identify and assess the candidates potential for a managerial career. In this six week International study, students will undergo a course work at the collaborating institution, visit industries, interact with business leaders, attend workshops and explore various business opportunities. Field Project The project will be conducted at the place of employment of the participant where they will be working after completing their 12 months of course work. The project will be jointly guided by an IMI faculty and a project supervisor from the employer organization. The field project is the most important single component of work in the Executive PGDM program. It provides the opportunity for the students to demonstrate their independence and originality, to plan and organize a large project and to put into practice some of the techniques they have been taught throughout the 12-month course. The Program Keeping in view the commitment of IMI to promote post-experience management education in the country, the three- year part-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM-PT) was started by the Institute in July 1986. This program is recognized by Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India, and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The PGDM Part Time program offered by IMI is a reflection of its full time program in terms of its content and academic rigour. The program is designed to impart knowledge and skills in the basic and functional areas of management. It is meant for working individuals who have not had the opportunity to acquire formal management education. Being a part-time program which requires attending classes regularly, it is open to those working in and around Delhi and have two intakes, one in January and other in June, every year. It is 3 year program in which the course work can be completed in 27 months. The program is approved by AICTE and accredited by SAQS (South Asian Quality Assurance System). Program Objectives The program has been offered with the following objectives. To impart theoretical knowledge in the basic and functional areas of management To enhance understanding of real world by exposing students to case studies and real life situations To develop analytical skills among students for taking decisions in real life by imparting understanding of management tools and techniques To inculcate values and attitudes which contribute to social responsibility Program Duration The PGDM Part Time program is spread over nine terms, each term being approximately three months long. The students have the flexibility to complete the program requirements within five years. This gives them the freedom to drop a term and resume studies at an appropriate time. Selection Process Only candidates who have appeared for the CAT 2011 examination or furnished valid GMAT score or appeared for the IMI test and have applied to IMI will be considered on the basis of information provided in the application form. CAT scores (sectional and overall) or GMAT score or IMI test score, educational background, marks in 10th, 12th, graduation and work experience will form the basis of short listing for the final stage of the selection process. Group discussion/extempore speaking, personal interview besides other qualitative parameters, including and not restricted to essay writing, will constitute the core components of the final stage of the selection process. The overall objective being to identify and assess the candidates potential for a managerial career. Curriculum The curriculum is designed to prepare managers for successful careers in a wide variety of business and

The PGDM (Part Time) program covers the following areas of study. a) Basic areas, eg, economics and organizational behaviour b) Techniques, eg, statistics and research methods c) Functional areas, eg, marketing and finance d) Integrative areas, eg, strategy and international business e) Technology, eg, management information systems The earlier part of the program exposes students to the compulsory subjects termed as core subjects. The latter part is utilized for studying specialization subjects termed as electives which are to be chosen from a list of subjects offered during a particular term. Students are required to study twenty one core courses and twelve electives. A 6 credit Term Project is a mandatory requirement of the course which commences in term 5 and is concluded by the th 9 term. Availability of electives is subject to a minimum number of students opting for it. There is also an option of doing a Course of Independent Study in lieu of two elective subjects. This requires the students to write a case study in any functional area of management in which they are working. This has to be written under supervision of a faculty guide from the Institute. Depending on the breadth of the elective courses desired by students some electives may need to be scheduled on weekdays. Classes are of three hours duration with a break in between. Each subject would have ten such sessions which means 30 hours of class room interaction. Evaluation Emphasis is laid on continuous evaluation of a students performance throughout the duration of the program culminating in a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score on a 10 point scale, being awarded. Fellow Program in Management (FPM)

General Introduction The development of knowledge is not a discipline or function, but a mindset a way of approaching all endeavors. In FPM, the candidate discovers how to challenge conventional wisdom, pushing the boundaries of current thought to open new avenues of knowledge and understanding. The program includes intensive formal courses as well as individually pursued self study courses on special topics and research programs. The Research Scholars are expected to work closely with the Institutes best-well- known faculty, both inside and outside the classroom. The FPM is designed to prepare men and women for careers in research, teaching and consultancy in technical and theoretical disciplines underlying business administration. These skills have become mandatory for careers in academia and are increasingly important in business and government, as well as in consulting, research, and technical advisory firms. Objectives The primary focus of the program is to prepare qualified candidates for academic careers in research, teaching and consultancy. Areas of Specialization Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Economics, Quantitative Methods, Information Technology, Strategic Management, Operations Management, International Business, Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management. Eligibility The ideal candidates for FPM are those who possess outstanding academic background, followed by professional experience, and intellectual curiosity as well as diligence required to pursue the work of scholarship. The candidates for the program must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India, or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE. The candidates with foreign degrees must be from foreign universities or institutions which are recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). A Masters degree or its equivalent in any discipline with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks OR A Bachelors Degree in Engineering (4 years) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade point average OR Any professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA and CS with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

In addition, all the candidates must have secured a minimum of 55 % marks in all public examinations starting with the secondary level. Work experience in industry or academics may be given due credit in the selection process. Those who are appearing for their final year examination in the current academic year may also apply. However, their admission to the program will be provisional subject to their successful completion of all requirements for obtaining the relevant degree before September 30, 2012. The maximum age for the FPM candidate is 40 years.

Experienced Corporate Executives The eligibility criteria described above will apply equally to the experienced corporate executives. The work experience as full-time executives or as management lecturers (at the level of Associate Professor and Professor with minimum 10 years teaching experience) in an organization/institution (AICTE approved) of repute is only considered as the valid experience. For experienced corporate executives, a minimum of 10 years of managerial/executive work experience is required. The minimum and maximum age of a candidate in this category should be 35 and 50 years respectively. Selection Process For Fellow Program, candidates (including experienced corporate executive) who fulfill the eligibility criteria stated above are required to take Common Admission Test (CAT) held by the IIMs Alternatively, those who have earned recent GATE, GRE, GMAT with satisfactory scores may also be considered. Likewise, the recent qualified JRF/SRF candidates can also apply in the relevant areas of specialization. Scores of any of these examinations including CAT taken during the last two years (i.e.), or after 01 July, 2010 will be considered valid. The candidates short-listed on the basis of their academic record and performance in the examinations mentioned above may be advised to appear before the Selection Panel for a personal interview for final selection sometime in early April 2012 and the successful candidates will receive offers by end of April 2012. IMI encourages applications from Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin and foreign citizens. Such candidates should have a valid GMAT/GRE score of not older than two years from the date of application. Applicants should note that the mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for short listing by IMI. Course Work The FPM program consists of two phases. The first phase of the program involves course work followed by a comprehensive examination. The second phase requires scholars to work on their thesis. This involves the preparation of thesis proposal, pursuing research on this proposal and finally an examination based on the thesis leading FPM. The course work component aims at providing inputs in various areas of management. The Fellow Research Scholars are required to take three complete terms of First Year courses of the PGDM. Each term in IMI is approximately of three months in duration. A Fellow research Scholar should earn at least eight on the ten point scale in his/her areas of interest. After successful completion of the PGDM 1st year level course work, the Fellow Research scholars may study the courses (duration six months) such as (a) Strategy I and II (b) Advanced Qualitative Techniques (c) Advanced Quantitative Techniques (d) Two courses on the areas of specialization. A comprehensive examination will be taken after completion of the core courses. During this period, FPM Research Scholars (those who selected under IMI Fellowship Scheme) will be given scholarship. The amount of scholarships Rs. 20,000 per month. Research Scholars who already hold an MBA or equivalent qualifications from leading Indian /Foreign Institutions/Universities may be waived from this 1st year course work requirements. But they must complete next six months courses. Similarly, the candidates (experienced corporate

executives and lecturers working at the level of Associate Professor and Professor) may pursue only six months courses. Duration of the Program and Accommodation The Fellow Research Scholars are expected to complete the program in four years. However, under special circumstances extension of two more years may be granted. The Research Scholars are expected to pursue course works in first eighteen months and the last two and a half year for research and thesis preparation. FPM is a full-time program (excepting for experienced executives). However, management lecturers (at the level of Associate Professor and Professor) and working executives have the option to choose a flexible time frame to complete. They are expected to complete their study in four years.

The Program
IMIs two year Post Graduate Diploma in Management is designed to prepare students for careers in industry, across functional areas. The program equips students with strong conceptual skills to manage businesses in an integrated manner. The emphasis is on developing a holistic manager with a vision to take on the challenges of the future. The program is approved by AICTE.

Program Objective
The program has been offered with the following objectives. Program duration
IMI follows the trimester system with the academic calendar beginning in June 2012 and each term being of 11-12 weeks duration. At the end of the first three terms of the program, all students are required to undergo compulsory summer internship for 8-10 weeks in industry.

Eligibility for admission Education background


To be eligible for admission to the PGDM Program, the participants must posses a Bachelors degree or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent in any discipline, recognized by the Association of Indian Universities for admission to post-graduate programs. The bachelors degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years education after completing higher secondary schooling under the 10+2 system or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final year of their bachelors degree or equivalent are also eligible, provided they furnish the proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria by September 30, 2012. Candidates who are unable to comply with this requirement may be asked to withdraw from the program. It is desired that candidates complete all academic requirements before joining the program to enable them to keep pace with the rigor and internal assessment schedule of the program.

Participant profile Participants for the PGDM program, may be from any discipline such as Engineering, Humanities, Commerce or Economics, Medicine or any other branch of education. Candidates with relevant work experience as also fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Elective courses Courses in the 2nd year are designed to offer students an opportunity to pursue their interests in various functional areas. Students will have an opportunity to specialize in the functional area of their interest. A student can specialize in more than one area, the areas being Marketing, Finance, Information Systems and Operations. In the PGDM program specialization is not offered in the area of Organization Behaviour and Human Resource Management. A student also has an opportunity to pursue a Course of Independent Study (CIS) in lieu of an elective, to further his/her interest in a particular area, subject to meeting the conditions specified for the purpose and reviewed from time to time. List of elective courses, offered during the 2nd year of study, is given at the end of this bulletin. Summer Internship On completion of year one, students gain hands-on experience in the application of core concepts and functional skills. This practice of Learning by Doing helps the student relate to the rigour of theory in the world of business. The students work on projects as per the specification of the company. At the end of eight to ten weeks of such a closely guided project under the supervision of the company executive, they submit a report to the company. The concerned company executive normally provides feedback to the Program Director on the student performance. Summer internship is an essential requirement for the award of the IMI Diploma.
