CRITERIA: BREAST-FEEDING- kind of feeding utilizing the milk of the mother either the milk is placed on the bottle or the baby is fed on the breast. BOTTLE-FEEDING- babies are nourished with a milk formula through a feeding bottle. MIXED FEEDING- babies are nourished with both milk formula and breast milk.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:

The types of infant feeding are the various ways in which mothers nourish their infants with the different classifications of milk.

In Table #17 Breast Feeding ranks first in terms of type of infant feeding results shows that 18 out of 28 infants or 64.28% were breastfed. The other 5 infants 17.86% were bottle fed and the remaining 5 infants or 17.86% were mix fed. According to Mothering from the Heart (2010), Breastfeeding is one of the most natural and beneficial acts a mother can do for her child. Dramatic health benefits have been proven to pass from mother to child through breast milk From antibodies which

protect an infant at birth...to the exclusive nutrients in mother's milk which have been shown to prevent a number of childhood diseases...the benefits are incalculable. There is no other single action by which a mother can so impact the present and future health of her baby.

Yet, in today's society, breastfeeding is often thought of as unnecessary. Young mothers are mistakenly led to believe that formula does very well as a replacement for breast milk. It emphatically does not! Nothing can duplicate the properties of breast milk, no matter how many vitamins, minerals and supplements are added to what is basically a chemical formulation.

Breast milk remains the one and only natural, complete and complex nutrition for human infants. It is nature's formula for ensuring the health and quality of life for infants, as well as on through childhood to adult life. Just as importantly, breastfeeding promotes a very special bond between mother and child that only a mother can provide.

So therefore it is obvious to say that the greater population is well- informed about the health benefits that could be brought about by breast feeding.

CRITERIA: COMPLETE a child has received 1 dose of BCG, 3 doses of DPT and OPV, 1 dose of measles regardless of hepatitis B vaccine upon reaching the age of 12 months, or a child who receive all needed vaccines for his age or scheduled for vaccination. INCOMPLETE a child who has not received the required immunization which is appropriate for his/her age. NEVER BEEN IMMUNIZED- a child who has not yet received any vaccination appropriate for age.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION:

Immunization is when a vaccine is introduced to the body in order for it to produce antibodies to help prevent infections.

In Table # 18 23 out of 28 infants or 82.14% were Fully Immunized Child while the other 5 infants or 17.86% were incomplete and there are no childen who have been never immunized. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2009), Its true that newborn babies are immune to many diseases because they have antibodies they got from their mothers. However, the duration of this immunity may last only a month to about a year. Further, young children do not have maternal immunity against some vaccine-preventable diseases, such as whooping cough. If a child is not vaccinated and is exposed to a disease germ, the childs body may not be strong enough to fight the disease. Before vaccines, many children died from diseases that vaccines now prevent, such as whooping cough, measles, and polio. Those same germs exist today, but babies are now protected by vaccines, so we do not see these diseases as often.

Immunizing individual children also helps to protect the health of our community, especially those people who are not immunized. People who are not immunized include those who are too young to be vaccinated (e.g., children less than a year old cannot receive the measles vaccine but can be infected by the measles virus), those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons (e.g., children with leukemia), and those who cannot make an adequate response to vaccination. Also protected, therefore, are people who received a vaccine, but who have not developed immunity. In addition, people who are sick will be less likely to be exposed to disease germs that can be passed around by unvaccinated children. Immunization also slows down or stops disease outbreaks.

CRITERIA: ABOVE NORMAL- it means exceeding the body weight, which is 10% more of the ideal body weight. NORMAL - body weight is ideal and normal in reference to one's age, height and body built. It is also means that the person is well nourished by the nutrients he or she gets from the nutritional foods. BELOW NORMAL (LOW) - it means weighing 10% less than the ideal body weight. BELOW NORMAL (VERY LOW) - it means weighing 25% less than the ideal body weight.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION: A Nutritional Status is the state of a persons health in terms of the nutrients he or she takes. It refers to the intake, ingestion, and absorption of the nutrients needed to maintain the body in good health and, in children and adolescents, to allow for growth.

Table # 19 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the nutritional status of 0-72 month old children of the surveyed households in the community. Out of the total 391 children 0-72 months of age, 230 or 58.82% children have a normal nutritional status, 103 or 26.34% of them are below normal: low, 38 or 9.72% children are above normal, and 20 or 5. 12% children are below normal: very low.

Nutrition is the power source that enables the body to function properly and keep it healthy. Having plenty of nutritional supply not only sustains body health, but also reduces the body's susceptibility to disease and premature death. A poor diet can have an injurious impact on health, causing deficiency diseases such as scurvy, beriberi, and kwashiorkor; health-threatening conditions like obesity and metabolic syndrome; and such common chronic systemic diseases such as chronic arthritis, chronic kidney

disease, asthma that may lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Based from the statistics in the National Statistical Coordination Board, the percentage of the prevalence of underweight children 0-5 years old from the year 2008 is 26.2% and the expected target of 2010 is 21.6%, the prevalence of underweight preschool children aged 0-5 years old exhibited minimal changes and remained higher than the target (NSCB.gov.ph).
