Currie Current Events Project American Government After conducting your research using this class period, please

turn in your neatly written responses to the following questions. Remember to answer them as thoroughly as possible since this will be the first page of your project. We will be able to observe how your event changes through out the semester by comparing these weekly entries. *Denotes that a source cite (web site, periodical, book, etc.) for the info in your response is required 1. Create a title for your current event project; make sure that it not only includes the issue(s) but that it catches the curiosity of the reader or compels them to learn more about your event. Example: Ipods banned on the street of New York: The City just got louder 2. Why does this particular issue/event particularly interest you? 3. What are the sides to this event? Is it pro v. con, for/against? What side do you choose? * 4. On which side of the issue would those around you (family, friends) fall? Why is that? 5. What are some other issues that your event can be connected to? i.e. the California recall can fall under the broader category of Elections. * 6. List at least 5 key terms and people/groups directly involved or affected by your event/issue: 7. How does your issue fit into the political picture? Remember: Everything is political; some issues are just more obvious than others. * 8. When was your event/issue first reported to the public? What was the initial reaction? * 9. Construct a map that shows where this event/issue is taking/took place. How does the geography of your event affect its outcome? 10. Create a detailed time line of your event/issue as it has been covered over the last three years. This may be where you connect your event/issue to its broader category. How many more years could you go back? 11. What are some already observable changes/transformations that your event/issue has undergone in at least the last three years?

12. If the fate of this issue/current event were in your hands, how would you approach finding a solution that all sides could agree upon? How would you be the talk show host.. 13. For your presentation at the end of the semester, what kinds of visual aids could be used to enhance your overall presentation? 14. What are the top three things that everyone in the class should know about your event/ issue? 15. List at least three main sources for your weekly information on your issue/event. What is your personal routine for continuing your research on a weekly basis i.e. if the Reno Gazette Journal will be a main source, when do you get it each week and how do you work it into your research routine read the paper each morning at breakfast? each day after school?
