TuitionandMentoring WearestillintheprocessofplanningourtutortrainingwithTeachFirstandourstaffmemberswill beattendingatrainingsessionwiththeMentoringandBefriendingFoundationinordertofacilitate ourmentoringsessions.

The17weektuitionprogrammewillinclude: 1. Academicgoalsetting:whatdowewanttoachievebytheendoftheyear? 2. Academicplanning:whatdoweneedtodotogetthere?Whatisstoppingusatthe moment?Howfaralongtheroadhavewecome? 3. Abreakdownofthenextsteps(includingthetopicsthatneedtobecoveredand understood)togetfromcurrentstatetotargetoutcomes. Tutorswillbetrainedto: askeffectivequestionstoencourageyoungpeopletosetthesetargetsandmakeappropriate plans. Inspireandencourageayoungpersontosettheirowntargetsandremaindedicated throughouttheprogramme. Howtoteacheffectively(usingarangeofpedagogicaltechniques). Thetutorandpupilwillagreetheexacttopics(modulesetc)thattheywillcoverinthe17week period.Weaskschoolstoprovidetextbooksifnecessary. The17weekmentoringprogrammewillinclude: 1. Careergoalsetting:wheredowewanttobein5/10yearstime? 2. Careerplanning:whatqualifications/experiencedoweneedtogetthere?;howcan webestprepareforthisnow(eg.Throughsettinghighertargetstoworkexperience/ universityprogrammes)? 3. Abreakdownofthenextsteps(eg.Applyingforworkexperienceinahospital/Saturday jobsetc.orgettingbusinessadvice)togetfromcurrentstatetotargetoutcomes. Mentorswillbetrainedto: askeffectivequestionstoencourageyoungpeopletosetthesetargetsandmakeappropriate plans. Inspireandencourageayoungpersontosettheirowntargetsandremaindedicated throughouttheprogramme. Howtosourceandlookforhelpforthespecificareasforyoungpeopleandhelpyoung peopleinmakingapplications; Thementorandpupilwillagreetheexacttargetsthattheywillcoverinthe17weekperiod.

Enrichmentactivities: ThroughouttheyeartherewillbeanumberofactivitiespreparedbyYELP.Theseactivitiestake placeduringtheweekendsandholidaysandareoptional.Allyoungpeopleinvolvedinthe programmewillbeencouragedtotakepart. Theactivitiesaredirectlyrelatedtoouraimsof: Bringinglearningtolife(applyingclassroomknowledgetotherealworld)andcurrentlywork withSTEMNetandSEOtoprepareworkshopsthroughouttheyear; Accesstouniversityweworkwiththewideningparticipationteamattheuniversitiesinvolved toengageourpupilsinsummerschools,overnightvisitsandworkshops; Socialevents(generallyuniversitysocietyrelated)toengageyoungpeopleinthefunactivities atouruniversities.

1stweek:Completedapplicationsarereturned.Schoolsignstheschoolagreementform (wheretuitionwilltakeplace,staffmembersupportingtheprogramme). 3rd/4thweek:Pupilsandtheschoolareinformedof: o acceptancesonprogramme(pleasenotethatneithereligibilitynorhandingbacka consentformguaranteesastudentaplaceontheprogram); o Programmeinformation(detailsofSaturdaySchool/weekdaytuition/mentoring); th 4 week:Pupils,parents,teachersareinvitedtomeetandgreetsessionsattheuniversity, wheretheirsessionswilltakeplace;

November(1stweek):
SaturdaySchool/tuition/mentoringprogrammestarts.
Note:Thereisaveryshortamountoftime(normally1week)betweentheschoolandthepupils beinginformedabouttheacceptanceandthestartoftheprogramme.Wedliketheschoolto prepareappropriatelyforensuringresources,roomsandmembersofstaffareabletocopewitha shortpreparationtime.
