Alternative Spring Break - 2008 Site Leader

Application

ASB’s Mission:
1. Educate a diverse group of students about a variety of social and/or environmental issues by
immersing them in communities across the nation to engage in meaningful, direct service.
2. Build future leaders that are active, conscientious citizens with knowledge and concern for
solving our nation’s most pressing social and/or environmental problems.

ASB’s Volunteers:
A passionate, committed group of MU students who desire to help alleviate our generation’s most
pressing social and/or environmental problems. ASB volunteers partner with community
organizations across the nation who work directly within the context of national and international
issues. Such organizations work with children from impoverished families, individuals living with
HIV/AIDS, refugees, endangered wildlife, urban reconstruction, and rural communities to name a
few.

Attending an ASB trip is a life changing experience that will challenge and expand your
understanding of yourself and society. The program is successful because of dedicated, active
volunteers. Please consider all volunteer expectations before you apply.

Rewards:
There are many rewards to serving as an ASB volunteer. Becoming an ASB site leader provides you
the resources and knowledge to organize and run your own national service project. You will not
only become educated about a variety of social and environmental issues, but also have the chance
to bring your knowledge back to your campus and home community. Your ASB trip has the
potential to change your life, as well as the lives of your participants and the individuals you work
with.
1
There are as many rewards for the ASB experience as there are ASB volunteers. We invite you to
apply and discover some of those reasons for yourself.

Adopt-A-Breaker Addresses Form

Fundraising is an integral part of the Alternative Spring Break program because it reduces the cost
of traveling for students. ASB trips are designed to be affordable to as many students as possible,
such that service and experience are the focus of the trips. One of our easiest fundraisers is Adopt-
A-Breaker. Potential hosts (family, friends, teachers, etc.) are sent a form describing your ASB trip
and requested to send any amount they are able/willing to give. Below, please provide a minimum
of at least five outstanding individuals you feel could be Adopt-A-Breaker hosts to you, as well as a
list of your current professors/T.A’s. Please write neatly and list host addresses as they would appear
on an envelope. ASB will provide all postage, pre-printed letters, and envelopes.
