Online Business Systems Assessment

Online Business Systems Assessment

Your attention is drawn to the statement about Academic Misconduct contained in your Student Handbook. Plagiarism is treated very seriously by the University, with penalties up to exclusion from your course. Don't: Copy chunks of material from electronic sources or books/articles. Submit the same work for different assessments. Get someone else to do your work.

For your assessment you will design and implement a dynamic database driven website to represent an online business scenario of your choice, and a multimedia advert or microsite to market your online business. You may wish to develop an online business solution for the organisation that you work for or for a hobby/interest of your own. Your site must be implemented using the Dreamweaver, PHP, and MySQL technologies that you have been learning during the Online Business Systems course. Your multimedia advert or microsite must be implemented using Flash. The assessment is split up into three different tasks. These tasks will be marked separately but your final mark for this module will be the addition of the three marks achieved. N Task 1 Task 2 Task 3 Task Dynamic Web Site Flash Shockwave Report Percentage 51% 24% 25%

Although the three tasks are marked separately, they are interdependent as they all relate to the same online business solution. Each one of the above tasks is described below:

TASK 1: Dynamic Web Site You will implement a website using Dreamweaver, PHP and mysql containing at least eight pages based on an online business scenario of your choice. You will design and create a database with a number of tables, using an appropriate structure. You will write server side scripts, using PHP, to produce the dynamic objects. You should also be able to connect to the server, add

data to the table and display data within the website. You may choose a scenario for the organisation you work for or for a hobby or interest of your own. Your website must contain the following functionality: A user registration area (using a form and form objects) A user login area (integrated into the home page using a form and form objects) Personalised areas for a minimum of two different types of user An area to upload, edit and remove text An area to upload, caption and delete a photo A page or pages to display uploaded text and images An internal communication facility On completion of your online business solution you should be able to demonstrate that you are able to develop the following: A fill-in form to collect the scenario specific details A PHP script that o Receives the data from the form and outputs that data to a mysql database o Reads the data from the mysql database and outputs that data to a web page o Dynamically displays text or images o Handles the login account o Performs form validation Entity-Relationship Diagrams representing the scenario (to be included as an appendix to the report (see task 3)) The database schema (to be included as an appendix to the report (see task 3)) A mysql database containing appropriate tables for the scenario Appropriately written sql to manage scenario data

TASK 2: Flash You have recently produced an online business solution and need to advertise/market its services/products. You will produce an online marketing application using Flash that will advertise your website to its target audience and make users want to visit your site.

Flash application requirements: 1. Minimum four different fully designed pages 2. Page content should include text and images 3. A working navigation structure 4. Include at least two animated objects 5. Include at least one sound within the application 6. A shockwave movie

TASK 3: Report Before you implement an online business system, you need to adopt a methodology to define what tasks you will need to do and in what order in the available timescale. The methodology you choose will depend on the type of application you are creating. When it comes to analysing the requirements for the site you will need to think about both the user and client requirements. Once these have been established, you can use this information along with good design principles to produce a set of design documentation, including navigation charts and storyboards, to illustrate the design concepts. This design documentation can then be used to implement a successful application. For task 3 you are required to produce a report of approximately 3000 words. Your report should contain a front cover with your name, student number and the course title and a contents page. The report must contain two sections. Detailed requirements are provided below: Dynamic website section requirements: approximately 1500 words: A description of the business solution you have chosen to implement including: a. background information and, b. the functionality of the site. A discussion of the evolution of your user interface design from your first drawings to your final design (including diagrams where appropriate), and include justifications of your final user interface design choices. A discussion of at least two different Methodologies including details of the stages involved and the good and bad points of each Methodology. A justification of your chosen Methodology including Flash section requirements: approximately 1500 words: 1. Aims of your multimedia application A discussion of the evolution of your user interface design from your first drawings to your final design (including diagrams where appropriate), and include justifications of your final user interface design choices. 2. A discussion of the implementation process using code examples and including problems encountered and your solutions. Appendices: Your report contain the following appendices at the end: Appendix A: Appendix B: Appendix C: Dynamic Website RUMM Analysis of User Requirements Dynamic Website Navigation Charts Dynamic Website Storyboards

Appendix D: Appendix E: Appendix F: Appendix G:

Marking Criteria Dynamic Website Conformance to client/user requirements. Use of RUMM. Aesthetic appeal of the interface. Usability of the navigation Structure/layout of objects. Use of Dreamweaver to implement/publish prototype. Use of CSS, XHTML, standards compliant, accessibility considerations? Has the site been uploaded to the RDI student server? Use of PHP to implement prototype Entity Relationship Diagrams ERD follows requested format Entities correctly identified Attributes identified Keys correctly identified ERD relationships accurate (name, cardinality, optionality) Use of sql to implement prototype DML DQL Database relations (tables) DDL Tables in-line with ERD Constraints identified with actions to ensure referential integrity Flash Marketing Application Conformance to requirements does the application market the services/products of the dynamic website effectively? Application look and feel have good design principles been used? Application implementation Have assets been organised appropriately? Have the development tools been exploited in an appropriate way? E.g. use of separate movies, use of actionscript. Report Dynamic Website Design Process Discussion of design process Justification of design decisions Methodology % 5 10 10
