Microtek ScanWizard 5 V7.

70 for Mac OS X
Welcome to the README FILE for ScanWizard 5. This file contains last-minute information on the application that were not covered in the proper documentation and some outstanding issues that were not timely resolved when this version of ScanWizard 5 was released. These unresolved issues would be rectified in future releases of ScanWizard 5.

System Requirements:
1. This version of ScanWizard 5 works on Macintosh PowerPC, running under Mac OS X version 10.3 or later installed on HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) file system volume; UFS (Unix File System) file system volume is not supported. 2. PowerPC Macintosh G3, G4 or G5; Compatible with Intel-based Macintosh. 3. Supported Microtek Scanners: * Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6): ScanMaker s450, ScanMaker s480, ScanMaker 5800II, ScanMaker 6000, ScanMaker s280 * Mac OS X 10.3.x ~ 10.5.x: ScanMaker ScanMaker ScanMaker ScanMaker ScanMaker 5800, ScanMaker 6000, ScanMaker 6100, i300, ScanMaker i410, ScanMaker i700, i800, ScanMaker s200, ScanMaker s280, s400, ScanMaker s430, ScanMaker s450, s480.

In default memory usage mode, ScanWizard 5 takes advantage of the available system memory to enhance scanning performance. It is not necessary to increase the heap space of your image editing application. However, scanning performance may deteriorate when you open many other applications while running ScanWizard 5.

Compatibility Issues:
1. Kodak Digital Science color matching software

ScanWizard is a ColorSync savvy application that incorporates Kodak's Digital Science color matching software. Kodak DS links your Microtek scanner to specific ICC profiles and specific color spaces in order to ensure accurate color matching display of images with your output device. ScanWizard 5 takes full advantage of the Kodak DS color-matching enhancements to match the colors introduced by Adobe in Photoshop 5.0.2. 2. Adobe PhotoShop plug-in compliant ScanWizard 5 is an Adobe Photoshop plug-in compliant software. It works with any image editing applications that supports the Adobe Photoshop plugin protocol. If you use Adobe Photoshop to acquire ScanWizard 5 application. 3. Painter 5 Painter 5.x does not work with ScanWizard 5.

Known Problems and Limitations:

1. ScanWizard 5 filters Occasionally, the ScanWizard 5 filters may not accurately display colors in the preview image. The displayed filter effects at preview stage are mere approximation of the final effect at final scan. These effects are dependent on the actual resolution of the image at final scan, and are usually different from that of the preview scan. 2. Using ADF Scanning adaptive indexed color with Auto Document Feeder (ADF) under ScanWizard 5 may result to an error message. To scan adaptive indexed color, ScanWizard 5 needs to perform a preview scan first before final scan. ADF does not support double-pass (preview and final scans) paper feed. In this situation, ScanWizard 5 will return error code or create wrong indexed color palette. It is therefore recommended that you do not scan image with indexed color type when using ADF. If you need to, scan indexed color with uniform palette. 3. ScanWizard 5 Temp file disk space During Scanning, the ScanWizard 5 Temp files are stored in the folder ~/Documents/ScanWizard 5 Folder/Temporary/ under start-up volume. And the scratch folder for disk memory is stored in the folder

~/Documents/ScanWizard 5 Folder/, also under start-up volume. You should therefore maintain an abundant disk space in start-up volume to accommodate huge files particularly when scanning for a huge output. 4. Using the Threshold image correction tool under negative film scan material and Line Art output image type When adjusting the histogram threshold from "Lighter" to "Darker" end, or vise versa, the effect is opposite to the desired result. Hence, move slider toward "Darker" indicator or increase Threshold value if you wish to decrease shadow or lighten the image. Do the opposite to increase shadow or darken the image. 5. Using MTMA to scan transparent originals When using MTMA to scan images, the MTMA should have been connected to the scanner. Next, connect your scanner to the computer, and power up both of them; when ScanWizard 5 is launched, the MTMA can be detected successfully. If you did not follow the above procedure, the scanner may mistakenly report the LightLid 35 adapter being detected, and the scanner will not function properly. 6. The OK button in the scan job manager dialog box requires an item to be selected.
