Update History ========================================================= v.1.0 - 1/16/2009 - FAQ completed ========================================================= 2. Weapons ========================================================= Chaoseater ============== This is your basic weapon that will always be assigned to your attack button. Lucky for you that it's also the best weapon in the game. It's fast, does a lot of damage for its speed and it's quite capable of stunning foes repeatedly. If you use the sword to combo a larger demon there's a chance you will be able to keep it stunned with repeated strikes. Simply use the basic attack combo to stagger him on the second and fourth attacks. One of the main benefits to the sword is the dashing attack - a powerful and fast maneuver. It also allows you to counterattack which is quite useful at certain points in the game. ============== Harvester / Scythe ============== The Harvester isn't a particularly good weapon although it's definitely got its

uses. While it's generally stronger than the sword it's also a good deal slower so you need to use this carefully. Generally speaking its best used when you're surrounded by enemies in which case you can use the wide sweeping combos to prevent them from attacking you while damaging them greatly. However with this exception you're not going to find too much use for the scythe. * NOTE: The scythe has another benefit in that it if you have the Harvester you will gain extra souls for killing enemies while wielding it. If you find the proper enhancements then you can get even more souls for using the scythe as your killing tool. ============== Tremor Gauntlet ============== Now this is what a secondary weapon should be. It's slow but powerful, capable of knocking enemies on their butts with one solid punch. There are many larger demons you can keep permanently stunned by hitting them with two sword slashes and then punching them with this. It's rather impressive although using the Tremor Gauntlet on its own isn't a great idea most of the time since it's quite slow. This changes to a degree once you purchase some of the upgrades since the RB / R1 & Y / Triangle attack is really good as is the dashing attack. ========================================================= 3. Walkthrough ========================================================= Prologue ======================== War comes crashing to Earth right amidst the Apocalypse going on full swing. Angels swoop through the air battling the demons at every turn while humans are being slaughtered like cattle. Unfortunately neither side seems to particularly care for you with the angels seemingly thinking that you're aligned with the army of hell even though you're cutting those demons up left and right. As you would expect this opening level is your introduction to the game and how it controls. You start battling minor demons, practicing your melee attacks on them. Take note that when the grab button prompt appears above their heads you can interrupt your melee combos by pressing said button, cutting them down immediately. It's quite convenient actually. After you take out the first few of them you will be challenged by the beast

that was standing atop the bus. Shortly after the battle starts you are told to use your Chaos Form (big red, flaming demon form) to defeat enemies with ease. During this Prologue you can enter this form pretty much as you desire to gain the strength boost as well as the near total immunity to damage but after this level it's not going to be so easy. Defeat the enemy by just getting in his face and slicing him apart, he will go down pretty fast to the Chaos Form. Now it's suggested that you switch back so you can move through the streets a bit quicker. A meteor will destroy the bus, allowing you to walk down the streets now. Just ahead is a pair of minor demons so take them out before continuing. A cutscene will play showing red crystalline structures blocking your path to the rear so your only choice is to keep approaching the big monster with the chains all over him. If you're looking for a quick achievement / trophy pick up a car and throw it at the chopper. This is done by pressing the right analog stick when you've got a throwable object in hand, putting the reticule over the choppa and then pressing the RT or R2 button to throw it. Easy. Continue moving towards the monster until a quartet of angels attack you. These guys are far more dangerous than the demons since they have ranged attacks. As you try to fight two or three in melee one will almost always be floating up in the air, pelting you with arrows that they fire in groupings of four. It's kind of hard to dodge these so you'll want to stay moving as you're whaling on the others. Even if you do get hurt it's not that big of a deal since you have a whole lot of health for this level. With them dispatched the giant stone beast will get up and start walking away. Keep following it, even after the cutscene, until you reach some angels and demons going at it. You can wait it out, taking out only the survivors, or just wade on in and cut everyone up. Either way it's a good time. When they're all dead something called demonic growth will begin to infest the buildings. This allows you to climb up the growth, reaching higher levels. Defeat the minor demons that climb down the growth and begin making your way up to the rooftops, using the second growth inside the apartment. Up here you will

have your first opportunity to see some of the bigger enemies, namely the angel with the shield and those dragon demon... things. Jump onto the cable and swing your way across (Tip: You can use the RB to swing faster) and then climb up the demonic growth on the other side. You can also use RB to move up these faster which will stop you from having to fight enemies coming from below after you knock them down. Inside of this large room you will be taught how to dash (RB again!) and that it's useful to evade. It works for this but you can also attack while dashing, performing a pretty powerful attack. Yes it's kind of like Dante's Stinger from Devil May Cry. After the first trio a larger group drops from above near the crystal and only by taking them out will the path open. Drop down the elevator shaft and keep moving, sliding down the cable when you reach it. This leaves you on the city streets again near a bunch of cars with angels in the background. Practice your throwing skills here and then carve up those flighty little monkeys. When they've fallen continue toward the red skull icon on your mini-map to reach a cutscene as well as the boss of this level. =================== Boss: "Giant Demon" =================== Even though this guy is gigantic he's incredibly easy and quite the pushover. To begin with lock onto him and try to stay like this at all times. This allows you to see what he's trying to do while still dodging or jumping around to get out of the way of his attacks. Secondly he only has two real attacks at his disposal so you should have no difficulty learning how to beat him. First, as soon as the fight begins he will slam his fist into the ground and then throw a handful of cars at you. This is easily dodged by evading, jumping or just briskly walking. Now while locked onto him pick up the cars and throw two of them at his face. After you throw the second one he will destroy all of the cars on the field, damaging you if you're close enough, before falling down enough for you to reach him. Hit him three times with your sword before getting the heck away from him. Now he will move the ground around, unbalancing you. Simply jump to avoid this

but try to stay away from him. When he lifts up the middle you can reach his face to attack but his flaming roar will damage you so it's really not worth the effort. Just hang back for now. This is where he uses his second attack - The beast will charge up a hand with energy then slam it into the ground. This sends a ripple of explosions your way that deal pretty hefty damage. Dodge it by evading or jumping to the side just as he hits the ground. After he does this twice he will throw more cars out at you so the battle repeats from here. Keep hitting him with cars and he will eventually fall down with a "grab icon" over his head. Grab him to finish the battle. =================== There's nothing you can do to stop what happens next so you may as well just face your fate. Facing the Charred Council you will have to grab up your sword, depowered just like yourself, and grab up the souls as instructed. You will then be returned to the Earth near where you left off just before but much time has passed. In either case we have to find Vulgrim and get this show on the road. =================== Seraphim Hotel =================== Climb up the demonic growth and get a move on. Follow the instruction on the screen to get past the large gap but the wall ledge can be a bit confusing. All you need to do is jump at the ledge so you will grab on. Move along it until you reach the gap where you will want to press the jump button. War will leap to the other side to safety. Just beyond that is your first fight as a depowered Horseman. These zombies don't look like much but they're surprisingly strong. They have a lot of health and that lunge attack is almost guaranteed to blind side you if you're not careful about how you fight them. It may take awhile to kill them so hitting them in the face with a car isn't a bad idea. The only easy way to kill them is to hit them a few times with your sword and then grab them. This initiates an auto-kill that will get you a good amount of all three souls. When they're defeated an enemy will blow itself up to start bringing down the

parking garage. Follow the Watcher's advice and use the pipe to get across the gap only to find more zombies. Once you've taken them out go to the partially open elevator door, yanking it open with the prompt. Climb up the demonic growth to the upper floor and hop off. Once the enemies notice you they will begin to charge which leaves you with a zombie horde to fight as well as another explosive enemy. The zombies shouldn't be too big of a threat, just keep on dashing, but the kamikaze enemy is a real pain in the butt. His claw attacks come in a pair, are fast and do a lot of damage, while he can also grab his belly which then spews flames out at you. It is best if you goad him into attacking you, avoid both of his attacks and then get behind him so you can hit him a few times. If you are getting crowded on by zombies while doing this replace the attack with your Wrath ability to clear them out. Just don't stay near him when he dies since he blows up. Head to the eastern wall to find a chest with health inside of it. Next up is the northeastern corner where you will find a box you can move. Press it up against the northeastern wall and climb up to find a pipe you can go across. Follow it to the end where you will find a pit you can double jump over. Take out the zombies to reach another elevator shaft you can climb. Go up the wall until you reach the next level and exit the elevator to find a large ballroom. You're locked in by a seal that won't lift until you kill all of the enemies so start taking out zombies. When you've killed enough of them a bigger demon with hands made of magma emerges from the ground - this will be your boss fight for the evening. =================== Boss: Magma Demon =================== Defeating this demon is more a matter of patience and timing. You don't want to attack him until he's done one of his own moves but even then there's only a short window of time where War can safely attack him. This means you need to get in, hit him two or three times and then dash away from him. It's going to take a bit to take him down this way but the other methods involve you getting hurt quite a bit so this is safest for the moment. The demon has three attacks he will use depending on your distance to him:

- If you're far away he will punch the ground, sending a ripple of flames your way. It's hard but possible to dash in quick enough to hit him when he's using this just don't spend too much time near him or you may get hit by a follow-up move which can be bad. - Secondly he will use a dashing punch where he hops forward, swinging his big fists. This is what generally catches you when you stay close to him too long since it is done surprisingly fast. Luckily it doesn't do too much damage but if you stay near him after being hit he can repeat this move a few times which will really add up. - Lastly if you're near him but staying to his sides or just outside of punch range he will hit the ground, causing flames to explode all around him. It's very easy to have War never get hit by this during the fight so long as you're not just standing around watching him. Keep moving and you shouldn't ever get hit by this attack. Just keep on whittling his health down little by little until he falls. If you take enough damage that you'd have to use your healing item it's best to just reload the last checkpoint and try again. =================== The barrier falls allowing you to keep moving. Kill any zombies in your path to the exit of the building but don't miss the chest as you go. It has a whole lot of health in it which you probably need after that fight. ======================== The Crossroads ======================== Collecting the 500 souls for Vulgrim is a bit more complicated than it sounds. You can't just keep on killing demons you have to find the chests located in the surrounding area. Each of these is guarded so you've got to fight to get your grubby mitts on them. Head for the northwestern one first. Past the zombies is another Magma Demon but thanks to the cars in the street he is much easier to defeat now. Keep on picking up cars and hitting him in the face with them. Each time he is hit the demon will stagger allowing you to pick up another one and repeat this. When he

falls to his knees execute the prompt to finish him off and gather his souls. The chest here is just health but the Magma Demon should have helped your need for 500 souls. Now to underground chest! It appears on your map just south of Vulgrim but you get to it from near the northwestern chest. Look on the western side of the street for a subway entrance. Head on down into the subway, killing off any of the zombies in your way. Jump into the water, swimming down to the green icon on the map. If you take this artifact to Vulgrim you get a reward so grab it. Leave the water now and look for the demonic growth you can climb. It will take you along the ceiling to the souls chest. As you go batches of skulls emerge from the ichor to attack you. Once they appear just charge them with the dash skill and attack once to kill them. With that chest obtained head back up to street level. Make your way to the southern part of the level where you will find an easy to reach chest. That is the last one you will likely need but you may as well grab the others now as well. As you head to the east a demon will attack with a scythe. These guys are very easy to kill so long as you follow the games instructions to block. Block the attack and then start using combos on it. The demon dies very easy, allowing you to reap its souls with little effort. Just past that is an office building with a chest inside. All you have to do is kill some zombies and the souls are yours. The problem comes when you head back outside. Once you're outside again a trio of scythe demons wait along with a magma demon which is bad news. Try to lure the scythe wielders into the store where you can throw desks at them to kill them quickly before fighting the magma demon. It's possible, although harder, to kill him by throwing the few cars over here at him. When he falls you can loot the chest in the depression to the east before heading to the north. There's a health chest in this alley and another soul chest down the stairs here. All that's guarding them is a pair of zombies and a lone scythe demon so they're easy to get. There is one final chest to get here but it's hidden very well. Search the area for every single fire hydrant you can find and destroy it. By destroy it we do

not mean to knock it over, we mean knock it over and keep hitting it until it's totally obliterated off the map. Once it's totally gone you will see the last chest spawn in so grab the souls from it. With all of that done you can now speak to Vulgrim. He gives you a tip on what to do next - seeking out Samael for help against the Destroyer. In addition he gives you an item called the Earthcaller. This is needed to proceed throughout the game so it's actually worth the effort you just went through. It can also be used as a makeshift weapon, knocking enemies down with the blast of sound. Return to Vulgrim and he will explain what the artifact you picked up was. As you return these to him he gifts you with souls. The amount varies based upon what type of souls you give to him, 500 is the amount you will get for each of the Soldier artifacts you give over. Your first purchases should include the sword abilities to air dash and dash attack. These will be very useful in your upcoming fights. Now blow your horn at the ancient gate to start a cutscene. It seems that the giant statue you were following around earlier was actually a sentient gate of sorts. Once the Rock Biter is gone you can now enter through the door that he was guarding. Head up the stairs to your left after opening the health chest. Dropping down into the next area leaves War fighting another explosive demon and some more zombies. Fight them like you have every other time before looting the souls chest. Drop down into the pit in the middle of the room next, taking out this explosie demon as well as the zombies. With that done jump into the water on the western side and dive under. Follow this to the end of the tunnel to find a shard of a lifestone on a small island. Collecting four of these increases your maximum health so now we need three more. Double back to the pit, climb up the demonic growth and go through the door. There's a health chest here so use it if needed and continue forward. There is no way to get the artifact right now, nor to use that glowing blue thing in the sky so ignore them and get a move on. Follow the halls until you wind up back outside in the...

======================== Scalding Gallow ======================== Your targe destination is straight to the north but you should a small detour along the way. After taking out the first minor demons hop up onto the western side of the channel you're walking in and go up the stairs. Here you will find a soul chest across a small pit. There's another chest and strange red crystal but we can't do anything with those just yet. Leave the building and continue straight forward to find your next boss battle. =================== Boss: Phantom General =================== You'd think that the first real boss fight of the game would be challenging but really it isn't. The Phantom General only has a few basic attacks involving axe swings that go horizontal and vertical as well as stricking the ground with his weapon to cause a pulse of reddish energy. If he hits you he does a whole load of damage but that's a big if. Taking out the boss can be done in one of two ways: the easy way or the "so easy you have to laugh" way. The easy way to defeat him is to use the dashing attack. Move in so that he attacks towards you before dashing away. Now quickly dash back in with the attack, hitting him a number of times, before retreating away from him again. Keep on doing this until he switches to the next part of the fight. If you're looking for the super easy way through this keep on using your newly acquired tool, the Earthcaller, to keep him knocked down. No matter what he is trying to do this will knock him to the ground (or into the barrier if he's too close to it) allowing you to get a solid combo in before he gets up. Back up a bit as he starts to rise and then use it again when he reaches his full height. Near the end of the fight he will call up scythe demons to attack you but they aren't too hard. The only thing that makes this difficult is that there are four of them at once. But, luckily for War, the Phantom General waits in place while you fight his cronies so if you stay away from him you don't have to worry at all. Just block a lot and take out the scythe demons. Two groups of them will attack before you can turn back to him.

After this just go back to fighting him with whatever strategy you've been using thusfar and finish him off. =================== Follow the Watchers directions and move the gargoyle closer to the middle of the circle. Do it again on the opposite side to free Samael from his prison. He agrees to assist you and provides you with Shadowflight. These wings allow you to glide a short distance or even further if you reach Shadow Currents. Using these you can reach the Bat Queen Tiamat's lair, killing her as he requests. With these wings you can either continue forward or double back to use these wings to help you get that artifact you ignored in the previous building. It's suggested you get this artifact, return to the Scalding Gallow and then check out the western path. Here you will find a number of enemies but notably there is a building here. Inside a soul chest waits to be pillaged on the first floor while a chest with a Wrath shard waits on the second. Also on the first floor is a Vulgrim location so spend your souls here. Now head to where the shadow currents appeared and use the wings to cross the two gaps. The explosive demon is a threat but you don't even need to fight him if you don't want to. Keep on moving until reaching the entrance to the caves. In here War will be using the shadow current to get up to the second level after dealing with the two minor demons. Here climb up the demonic growth to start a long voyage across the gunk. Don't relax too much because there's an enemy who will attack when you're most of the way done. One hit gets rid of him but if he gets you first then you fall into the lava. Not a good thing. At the far side of the pit two minor demons wait for War so take them out. Use the wings to glide across and then again on the other side to get over the two Shadow Currents. This leaves you with a clear path to the exit into the area that Tiamat calls home. =================== The Choking Grounds =================== This area is full of bats that will unfurl from the trees and undead who will pull themselves from the ground. Bats can be defeated easily by leaping at them

and grabbing them for an automatic kill. Undead are even easier since they're very slow to attack, giving you plenty of time to outmaneuver them. First things first - move forward but watch your left side. There are stairs going down to a mausoleum type area with an explosive demon and zombies. Kill them so you can grab the artifact they are guarding. Another one is to the south, near the wall, where you can pull a large tomb away to reveal another underground area with an artifact. This one is guarded by three undead soldiers and some zombies. Then get to the street south of this location where you can find a soul chest at the end of a small corridor. With these in hand you can visit the Vulgrim location back near the first tomb you got an artifact from. Now head to the northeastern part of the cemetary, killing every enemy that comes after you. Down the ramp you will find another of the ancient gates. This one explains that you must free it from a curse lain upon it by some Shadow Lurkers before it can let you pass. To do this you will be given the ability to see into the Shadow Realm. This quest is pretty simple since these Shadow Lurkers are marked on your map. Head for the closest one first to see what waits for you. The Shadow Lurker is the giant eyeball looking fence thing. - Northern Arena: This arena wants War to take out 40 enemies within the three minute time limit. It starts out pretty easy since the first 20 - 25 enemies are zombies. After that the scythe demons and explosive demons take over. Try to ignore the explosive demon at all costs while focusing on killing off the scythe demons. Use your wrath abilities if you have to. There is a surplus of enemies here and the explosive demons take too much effort for one measly kill. Speed matters since you want as many bonus souls as possible. When you finish the mission destroy the Shadow Lurker, get the chests and then leave. - Northeastern Arena: While it might not seem like it this arena is much, much easier than the last one. The trick is learning how many hits these enemies can take before they die. As soon as you can knock them into the air and hit them three or four times before letting them hit the ground. Now immediately knock them into the air and use a full combo on them. This should kill them every

time which will allow you to go through the enemies really fast for a very good soul reward. - Southeastern Arena: Ouch. This arena is considerably harder than the last two thanks to the final part of it. It starts out pretty simply with a good 8 bats before the undead start attacking. You'll still find it easy until the first Magma Demon spawns in. Avoid this guy like the plague while you keep on going after the other enemies. Unfortunately after a bit a second Magma Demon spawns in and the two will start to tear you apart. You may find it to your advantage to go near them and spam your Wrath attacks to cut them down. They'll die pretty easily if you've been hitting them at all throughout the fighting. Don't even worry about their instant kill, just get rid of them and focus on the smaller enemies again. - Southwestern Arena: Surprisingly enough this one is actually pretty easy if you're good at avoiding enemy attacks. To begin with simply keep on grabbing the zombies. The instant kill will heal you any damage you've taken thusfar. Keep doing this until they stop spawning and the scythe demons begin. Kill them as quickly as possible, ignoring any of the grab prompts since those will only slow you down. Once the magma demon spawns in focus on him and use both of your Wrath attacks immediately. Now gather up the Wrath energy from a chest and use it on him again. Do this with the second Wrath chest. He's likely still alive so turn your attention to the scythe demons. Use the grab kill now so you can gather up more Wrath energy for use against the magma demon. It shouldn't take long to kill him and then finish off the rest of the enemies. Try to grab the health chests when your running really low or just before it ends to boost your score. With those four sealed return to the ancient gate and blow your Earthcaller yet again. This time he will leave and you will obtain the Ravager enhancement. War's path into the sewers is open so head on in. After you exit the large pipe look to your left to see a soul chest. The other way has the way forward, over the two Shadow Currents. When you enter the large room on the other side of the gap War will have to fend off three waves of scythe demons (four, four and then three) before the door opens. It can be difficult thanks to the tight quarters

but stay mobile and you shouldn't take too much damage. Continue forward to reach the next area. ======================== The Broken Stair ======================== At the top of the ramp a few zombies will attack with a trio of bats. Use the instant kill on them to heal up any damage you may still have. To the south of here there is a break in the road, look down there for an artifact. Grab it and then head down into the subway nearby. It will lead into a cavern filled with zombies. There is a soul chest in your path and a Lifestone shard through a sunken passage to the south. Vulgrim can be found to the northeast so go do any shopping before leaving the tunnels. Enter the building nearby (it's the one the zombies rushed out from) and head upstairs. Defeat the pair of scythe demons before grabbing the soul chest. Now jump out the broken wall and use the Shadow Current to fly your way up onto the broken highway. Take out the enemies who attack before searching to the west near the end of the broken highway. There is a Lifestone Shard hidden behind a pair of cars here. Start making your way to the east along the broken highway using the Shadow Currents. As you reach the last one a large demon attacks you, charging towards you from the way you just came. These clawed brutes are really strong and you don't have many chances to throw cars back at him so your best bet is to try to hit him with a car as soon as he lands on your platform. If you hit him with all the cars near you it should weaken him a bit. Now all you need to do is a bit of damage or, if you're feeling daring, a few counter attacks and he should enter his stunned state so finish him off. Use the Shadow Current here to cross to the building roof. Search around for a soul chest to your right before using the next Shadow Current to get into the next building. Kill the zombies then drop into the hole to reach the bottom floor. Four scythe demons wait alongside a lone zombie to ambush you here. In the northwestern corner is a chest that needs to be bashed open, do so to get a Beholder's Key. Head up the stairs, stopping at the second floor landing to get a soul chest from the northwestern corner, and then back to the top. You can now use the key to get past that weird blue eye barrier thing.

As you near the top of the stairs you will get a cutscene showing angels flying around the area, looking for you. War hijacks one of their flying mounts and takes off towards Tiamat's lair. This next section is kind of a pain since it's somewhat awkward to control and the achievement / trophy for this section is really hard to get. This section controls using the two analog sticks and the right trigger / R2. Left analog stick controls your position on the screen, right analog controls your aiming reticule and the trigger is your attack. By repeatedly pressing on the trigger you will fire energy blasts from the beasts mouth. Holding the trigger down allows you to "paint" enemies like in the Panzer Dragoon series. Enemies that are painted will have a crosshair put on them and when you release the trigger the mount will fire off streams of energy at every target. You can paint up to five enemies it seems. This section is fairly easy even on Apocalyptic difficulty since you can pretty easily dodge most of their attacks. Enemies fire off in a straight line so all you have to do is just not be in their line of fire. The only ones who are able to really hit you are the angels with the shields who take forever to kill. It is very hard to dodge their attack and killing them isn't the easiest. However as a general rule to get through this section with ease you will want to keep the following mantra in mind: small enemies are best fought with homing lasers, large enemies are best fought with rapid fire. The only real complication that comes up during your flight is the large dragon who totally defies physics by flying backwards. It's very hard to dodge his attacks so you have to kill him quickly. The easiest way to do this is to lock onto his two shoulders and face with your homing laser. When you release it you can hit all three of them doing a fair bit of damage. Now immediately shoot him a few times with the rapid fire before locking on again. There is a small delay between firing homing lasers so fill that with bullets until you can home in on his weak spots again. Repeat this until the beast falls. As a note if you're trying for the achievement / trophy it's best if you take him out before you reach the lava flow. There are a lot of smaller enemies in

this area (about 30) you can take out but he gets entirely in your way. If he's dead then you can likely reach your target number. Otherwise don't count on it. After you reach the far end of the caverns Tiamat will destroy your angelic mount leaving you to crash to the ground. However the beast served the purpose War needed it to as you're now at the Twilight Cathedral. ======================== Twilight Cathedral ======================== There are five bats here for you to kill if you still need the high flier achievement but that's the only enemy to deal with for now. To your right is a small area where Vulgrim has set up shop while your left has a frozen barrier as well as some strange floating orbs. Ignore those for now - do your shopping with Vulgrim and then head into the Twilight Cathedral. As you head down the hallway the Watcher will draw your attention to a giant crystal sword. Pick it up and continue down the hallway where you will find a statue holding a black and red sword. Across from it is the statue where you will need to use the sword you have, an action that will open the doors to the next chamber. Leap across the lava pit and head towards the southern door. This will take you out into a courtyard where you are trapped by a magical barrier. You will have to defeat the bats hanging on the walls, four undead warriors and then a final wave of bats and undead. When the last of them fall the barrier will disappear, allowing you access to a small room with bombs inside of it. Pick up one of the bombs, fling it at the red crystal and watch your path open. Just be sure to grab the health chest if you need any. Leap across the lava pit, a fairly hair raising jump, to reach the horizontal ledges. These will take you to an upper ledge where you can exit this room but don't do that just yet. Jump across the pit here to reach the treasure chest where you can get a Wrath recharge consumable. Now make your way back to the exit door and head on out. On the balcony push the giant statue off of the ledge to crash through the ground. Now open up the chest opposite where the statue stood to find a map of the area. Through the door on the other end of the balcony you will find the

main cathedral hall yet again but this is a dead end, all it has is a single soul chest for you to plunder. Go back to the balcony and follow the statue all the way down. Follow the tunnel to the large lava pit, leaping across to reach the two undead hanging out on the other side. Destroy them, climb onto the ledge and follow it over to the demonic growth. When you grab onto the growth leap away from it, going towards the wall. In the air you should see a glowing green artifact just waiting to be picked up. Angle your double jump towards it to reach it with ease. Two more undead to murderfy and one big leap will take you to the end of this tunnel. Open the door to reveal a small chamber with five undead and a chest that contains your needed Beholder's Key. Destroy them, grab it and then backtrack to the courtyard. Destroy the undead who have decided to guard the blue barrier before removing it with the Beholder's Key. Leap across the three pits to reach a mini-boss fight. This giant enemy fights much like the Phantom General boss you fought earlier and is just as easily defeated. The only difference is that you can't just abuse the Earthcaller here as he will just ignore it. Fight this demon by moving constantly, hitting and moving as the opportunity provides. After he slams his axe into the ground, causing ice to sprout up around him, dash in with an attack and then combo him once before retreating. He will go down in no time to your assault. Loot the health and soul chest before grabbing the crystal sword. Use this at the statue near the northern locked door in the main hall to find another room with a few blocked passages you need to open. Grab the explosive ball from near the pool of lava and throw it at the large weird leech thing hanging from the ceiling near the crystal blade. Use the lock on button to make sure it hits. When you pick that up the mini-boss will attack again with a trio of the undead warriors. You can throw explosives at them if you like but it's best to make use of the Harvester, if you have it, to deal heavy damage to the big guy as fast as you can. Otherwise he will cut your health away bit by bit. When he falls use the sword on the statue near the locked door to the north. Go through the door to find yourself in a small room with a Shadow Current nearby. Jump into it and ride it to the north as there's a floating Champion Artifact

up in the air. Now use it to go to the south to reach the door to the upper levels of the courtyard. Use the ledges to reach the far end of the courtyard where you will find a block you can push down to the lower level. Push the block to the western wall and climb on up. You may have noted treasure in the northern room before but you can't go there thanks to the ceiling leech. Instead go through the nearby southern door, kill the undead soldier and then use the explosive bomb on the ceiling leech. This causes it to drop a piece of a big statue, destroying the floor underneath it. Hop down into the hole this creates to reach a new underground area. As you go down the stairs you will have to fend off five undead soldiers before the path leads you to a large arena type area. Walk over to the chained statue and attack it to reveal the Crossblade, a throwing blade you can use like the angelic mounts breath attack. To practice you're given some flaming drakes to cut up and then three undead soldiers. When they die you get a new type of enemy, a poison spitting demon. Follow the games instructions to charge up your blade and hit him with it. While it's grinding into him you can dash in, landing some sword blows. Get away from him and then repeat the process until he dies. Stay away from him when he's in his death throes to avoid taking damage from the explosion. With him dead use your Crossblade to strike the sword that's revealed over the door, allowing you to get through into the next room. Take out the two flaming drakes here but ignore the lever in front of you. Go around the room to behind the statue in the lava and throw your Crossblade at the explosives attached to the crystals there. This frees the statue to move so go back to the level and use it, raising up the statue and opening the doors in the room. As you near the only door you can reach you will see some bombs attached to a pillar, hit them with your Crossblade to bring down the level above you. This creates a path over the lava. Jump onto the rock bridge you've created to find that the next bombs won't blow up on their own. You're going to have to make them want to blow up! Use your target lock to hit first one of the torches and then the two bombs. This sets them alight and causes them to explode, making yet another walkway for you. Walk across it to reach the far side of the room with the statue buried in lava.

Pass through the door to find yourself in a room with three angel statues. Just behind them is a Shadow Current, use that to get to another door. Destroy the two blocks hanging on the cord in this new room before sliding down. When you activate the lever here blocks will move about in the lava, creating a path to War's left that will bring you within a throws distance of another target for the Crossblade. Hit it to cause the blocks to shift again but don't walk to the next one. Instead just take a flying leap using Shadowflight to the westernmost block where you can hit the next switch. As soon as you hit it jump onto the one just north of it because that one will begin to rise up. Hit the newly accessible switch to cause a new block to rise up in the middle of the room, this one having explosives on it. Throw one at the crystals in the room (one on the north and one on the eastern wall) to clear the paths. Now get to the southeastern-most brick and hit that switch one more time. This gives you a path to the northeastern-most brick where you can leap into the eastern hole in the wall. This has a soul chest and the final switch you need to hit. When you hit this all the bricks rise up, creating a stairway to the northern hole in the wall. Go there, climb the ledges and leap to the cable to reach the area beyond the door. Climb across it to the end so you can drop down nearby the crystal sword. Grab it and then turn around. You will see two switches on parallel statues, hit them both in one throw to clear the path out of this room to the previous one. Climb the bricks so you can escape back to the room with the three angel statues. Put the sword in place with one of the statues before turning to the west. Walk over to the wall and climb up the ledges into the next puzzle room. This room requires you to activate two switches to cut off the flow of lava. To do this you will have to navigate through a whole lot of trouble so be ready to be here for some time if you're not good with these sorts of puzzles. Walk to the center of the bridge and then jump off to the north, aiming for the artifact down here. With that in hand maneuver along the cogs to the southern side. Grab the inert bomb and leap across the gears back to the north. Fling

the bomb at the crystal and then use the Crossblade to light it up using the torch on the wall nearby. The gears can now move so go back to where you got the bomb and use the ledges and demonic growth to get back up onto the bridge. Activate the skull switch by the doors to cause the bridge to spin. It will now connect the room horizontally as well as vertically. Ride the bridge so you can get off on the upper southern platform. Pick up the inert growth and ride the bridge again until you can reach the northern ledge. Throw the bomb at the crystal barrier and then use the Crossblade to blow it up. Walk through to the switch and activate it to raise up one of the two needed switches. Get back to the spinning bridge and go to the southern platform. This one is a bit trickier but when you realize the solution it's one of those "I'm an idiot, why didn't I think of that?!" moments. Pick up one of the inert bombs and throw it, using the right stick to aim, near the bomb. Grab a second one and throw it close to the first inert bomb but not too close. Do this with a third and, if you feel that you need it, a fourth bomb. You can only have five of them out at once so don't go crazy. When you've gotten the chain set up properly hit the explosive growth with your Crossblade to set off the chain reaction. Activate the second switch here. Now get on the spinning bridge and ride it to the north. Use your Crossblade to hit both switches, clearing the path to the second crystal sword. Don't miss the two soul chests in here either while you're at it. Bring this to the three angelic statues, placing it on the second statue. This unlocks the sealed door in this room so head on in. When you near the treasure chest it will be sucked into the ground, forcing you to fight three undead soldiers for its contents. Destroy them to reveal the chest which contains the Beholder's Key. Along the northern side of the room is a chest with a Wrathstone in it as well so don't miss that. With that in hand you can now make your way to the glowing blue door and head in. There are five flaming drakes hanging around in here so destroy them with your Crossblade (grinding works wonders) before proceeding. You can now climb along the ledges to your right to reach a platform. Don't bother using the nearby switch, just go through the southern door to reach a boss fight.

=================== Sub-Boss: The Jailer =================== The game would like you to believe that the Jailer is a boss fight but he's far too easy to actually be considered as such. His entire repertoire consists of flailing that cage he has on his arm around or throwing out four or five undead to keep you busy. Neither of these should be much of a threat at this point in the game so just keep your distance from him. Damaging the big guy is as easy as hitting him with your Crossblade in the right way. Aim for the three glowing pustules on the tumor that passes for his left arm. When you hit these he will fall to his knees, leaving himself open to a good deal of damage before he stands up. You need to get away from him before he stands up fully since he will go nuts for a bit, his pustules glowing red as he flails that cage around like a lunatic. Just wait for him to calm down and repeat this over and over until he dies. If you can ignore the undead or just whittle them down to dealing with only two at a time then the fight will be incredibly easy. =================== Head into the next chamber and ride the elevator down. When you use the inert growth plus the torches to blow up the crystal enemies will attack. Once again the poison spitter is the main threat so use the Crossblade grind attack to keep him away when he's glowing green and just carve him up. Now navigate down the side tunnels on either side of the lava pit, grabbing the soul chest as you go, until you reach the end. Activate the switch to cause a rock slab to fill the lava channel in the center. Now head back to the inert bomb growth, place it on the crystal and blow it up to reach a switch. Activate it to send a platform to the upper level. When you try to leave two more undead and a poison spitter attack, get rid of them so you can ride the elevator back upstairs. Be careful of the group of undead who attack you in the elevator since it's really tight quarters in there to be fighting these guys. Activate both of the levers on the platform over the lava pits to create a path across. At the far end you will find yourself in a familiar area but with a new

way through - use your Crossblade on the two swords to unbar the path. The next room has one of the big ice warriors with four undead, not an easy fight. Try to use your Crossblade to keep the big guy stunned while getting rid of the mooks, then turn your attention to him. If done as such you should have no real problem whittling his health down while keeping yourself as safe as possible. Just try to get that action prompt to appear over the big guys head and tear him in half to end that quickly. Two more undead and a poison spitter will come out to attack after you finish off the first group. Since you have more space you can either kill them or play around a bit. When the spitter begins to grow if you hit him with the Crossblade and then have it hit his cronies they will become poisoned, damaging them while you remove the energy from him. This helps with getting rid of the lot of them much faster. When you grab the crystal sword a pair of the ice demons will attack you so be ready for a tussle. It may be helpful to activate Stoneskin if you've purchased it to help with damage and damage reduction. Try to stay mobile, hitting them with the Crossblade when you don't have an opening to use your sword. Harvester does a lot of damage if you have it but if not hit and run with the sword will work just as well. Once they're defeated take the crystal blade back to the room with the three angels and put it in the hands of the final angel. This causes the entire platform to rise up into the courtyard from earlier, dispelling the barrier in your way. But don't go through that door just yet as there is some sidetracking War should do. First go back to the upper level using the block to reach that leech that is blocking the door. Hit it with the Crossblade and run through to get the first piece of Abyssal armor from the chest on the upper level and some souls and a Wrath Core piece on the lower level. You can also pick up on of the explosives and throw it through the gap in the wall on the southern wall. If you aim it just right you will destroy the crystal there, exposing a chest with a shard of Lifestone in it. Visiting Vulgrim may also be a good idea as you've probably got a whole lot of souls to spend.

Whenever you're ready head through the newly opened door and proceed up the stairs. At the very top you will find Tiamat and she is pretty fearsome. =================== Boss: Tiamat =================== Finally, a boss fight in this game that is as hard as the others could've been. Tiamat is an incredibly tough nut to crack maily due to how hard she is to dodge. In both of her attack forms her attacks are quite difficulty to avoid without taking any damage and more often than not you won't avoid it at all. If you've got a healing item then you shouldn't have any problems outlasting her during the battle but let's hope it doesn't come to that. To start with Tiamat will fly around the outside of the platform that you're standing on. After a bit she will stop, hover in place and then dash forward as her claws scrape the ground. Dodging this pretty much requires you to be a good deals away from her and then dash as soon as she starts heading your way. A jump dash and dash combo may work better. After a few of these she will begin breathing fireballs at your location. To avoid these War will need to double jump away and use a ground dash to escape as soon as you see it coming at you. Taking her out of this form isn't terribly hard though so long as you move as quickly as you can. Grab one of the inert explosive growths and toss it at her. Now use your Crossblade to lock onto one of the flaming braziers and then the bomb, causing it to explode on her. This will need to be done a few times to bring her to the ground. While she's on the ground she once again has four primary attacks. The first is a flaming burst of fire from her mouth - this is only done if you stay too far away from her for too long. Hang around her rear too long and War will get hit with a tail sweep that isn't too strong but can knock you around. Staying close to her front causes her to try for a powerful claw swing that you must avoid. What you will see more often is the second attack, an explosion of fire all around her. She does this every time you stay near her for too long, or after she performs any of her other moves, and is her primary damage dealer. After fighting a bit she will charge you, requiring you press the throw button to knock her away and avoid taking damage yourself. Take note that this doesn't seem to cause her any actual damage, merely knocking her away.

Hurting her in this form is very tricky. You'll need to get her to perform her explosion attack, not get hit by it, and then move in quickly with a jumping attack. This can be rough but after a bit of practice you'll get the rhythm of it down. After you hit her face a few times she will fall to her knees allowing you to cut the crud out of her for a bit. She will then rise, perform another explosion and start this all over again. Luckily it only takes a good four combos attacks while she's on the ground to defeat her. =================== Killing her grants you a Lifestone as well as her heart, the item you need to barter with Samael. Upon leaving the tower via the teleporter that the Watcher points out you will have a cutscene with Vulgrim that unlocks access to the Serpent Holes. Use these to teleport to the Scalding Gallow. After a quick walk along the otherworldly walkways you will find yourself at your location. Pretty nice way to cover the load times. =================== Scalding Gallows =================== Cutscene goodness will ensue that results in unleashing your Chaos Form. You should remember this from the prologue. Oh yes, this should be fun. Now War can get through the crystal barrier in this area courtesy of his Crossblade so you need to head to the west. Before doing that though head to the south, inside of the wrecked office building, and use your Crossblade on the crystal to reveal a path to the treasure chest up there. It will give up another piece of the Abyssal Armor set. Head on over to the western crystal barrier and use your Crossblade. Target the pipe then the bomb to remove the obstruction. War is now free to enter the sewer system. Unfortunately the second hallway you enter has an ice version of the explosive enemies you met earlier in the game along with numerous scythe demons. Because of the tight quarters this fight is almost borderline unfair, especially on the harder difficulties, so Chaos Form may be called for. The next room has a very large fan that you need to get moving so you can proceed. To do so jump from the blade you're able to walk on to the left one. From there you can reach a lever that will get the fan spinning which will get you to the western passage. Kill the four scythe demons and head further down

the tunnel. Another lone scythe demon will attack with an ice exploder as its backup. Once again the tight spaces make this frustrating but since there's just the one minion you shouldn't have too much difficulty avoiding the big guy and hitting him when he leaves an opening. Grab the soul chest from this tunnel before heading towards the quest marker. Your path will take you to a new area. =================== Drowned Pass =================== Just up ahead a pair of scythe demons wait to ambush you with their buddy, the ice demon, so try to lure them off first and then deal with the big guy. It's usually possible to wait for him to walk away enough that you can lure out the minions without risking him coming along for the fight. Then head down the tunnels but don't go down the nearby hole to the lower level since it's really a one-way trip that you don't want to deal with just yet. Stay along the upper level and keep on moving forward. A trio of scythe demons will come out of the ground with a smaller version of the Phantom General. They act like scythe demons, trading a bit of speed for a good bit of power. However they're not very hard since you can knock them down pretty easily or juggle the heck out of them. Further along you will face a pair of scythe demons and just beyond that is an ancient gate. Just like the last ancient gate you will have to defeat a number of Shadow Lurkers to free him from his curse. While you're going after these keep your eyes open for treasure. There is a soul chest inside of the building near the central Shadow Arena for example. - Central Arena: This one is pretty easy since it wants War to kill 30 enemies with the Chaos Form. The hard part to this is that you will want to go against what you did in the last arenas and actually target the big guys when possible. Use your dashing attacks to keep knocking people around but don't stand still too long especially later on. The Naga demons will use magical attacks that come out from the ground at your feet to damage War so you have to stay mobile. So long as you do this well you will build up enough energy repeatedly so you can keep on hammering on the enemies in your Chaos Form.

- Southeastern Arena: Yay for another easy arena! Whenever the enemies spawn in hit them with your weapon until you weaken them to the point of having the instant kill prompt above their head. At this point simply try to use your counter attack move over and over until it works. Each enemy will only take one hit to kill at that point with a counter attack, even if the counter attack is started because of another enemy the wide swings can kill everyone around you. It's easy to get this one over before the 3:30 mark if you're good. - Eastern Arena: Now for the first actually difficult arena of this lot. You need to keep the undead alive throughout this whole ordeal. At least one has to survive through this whole mess but you get more souls for each of them that make it. The easiest way to do this is to just abuse the Chaos Form whenever possible. Use Blade Geyser whenever possible against bigger enemies so as to cut them down faster and help gather up more energy to summon up another Chaos Form. Just focus on the biggest gathering of undead soldiers on the field to help raise your odds of successfully completing this. - Northeastern Arena: And for a finisher this one is surprisingly easy. You'd think this one would be hard but it thankfully isn't. You can either just keep picking up cars and hitting people in the face or you can actually weaken the enemies with your sword before finishing them with the cars. However you do it this is quite easy. With that done return War to the ancient gate, awakening it again. This will get it out of the way and net you a piece of the Abyssal Armor. In the same spot as the northeastern Shadow Arena now lies a pair of chests, guarded by a horde of enemies. One has souls while the other has another piece of the Abyssal Armor set. The nearby waterfall also conceals an artifact that you can grab. There's also an artifact inside of one of the sunken buildings. After having gathered all of that you can return to Vulgrim to shop a bit. Use up your souls before heading onward to the next area. Inside of the sewer pipes you will reach a large channel. Follow it into the pool of water where a group of fishies attack. Swim through the tunnel, making sushi as you go, until you reach the far end. Climb out of the water before going up the demonic growth nearby. Be careful as there are two exploding skull batches along it that do a whole lot of damage. Clamber across the cable

to the far side where you can find another Vulgrim location. All that seperates you from the next area is a short tunnel. =================== Anvil's Ford =================== Upon arrival at the Ford you will notice that you can't really go anywhere. It seems that all of the doors are sealed too tight for War to open. Upon trying to lift the hammer in the middle of the area Ulthane will come out to speak to you. After a short exchange War engages him in combat. Your attacks are beyond futile here, having no effect at all on Ulthane. The only way to hurt him and end this battle is by assuming the Chaos Form and laying into him. This will cause the next part of this level to begin. Uriel and her angels arrive on the scene, prompting War and Ulthane to band together to get rid of them while leaving the area. This is a pretty simple stage that is complicated by one thing - if you want the enhancement that the big guy has on him you will need to get more kills than him. You can check your kill progress in the upper right hand corner to see how War is stacking up. The trick to this is that you won't stand a chance against Ulthane at first. He can power right through the angels defenses, tearing through their health at a really rapid rate and doesn't get hurt by them. Plus he likes to steal your kills the bastard. It may help if you throw cars at the enemies to weaken them but as soon as the grab prompt appears over their heads finish them off. This will help you keep pace with him in the least. After following him for a bit he will throw War through the wall of a building so that he can clear a path ahead. Defeat the angels in here, drop down to the lower level and throw an explosive growth at the patch of inert growths. This allows Ulthane to head across. Turn to the left and go out the hole in the wall here to find yourself stymied by a wall of ice as well as an angel attacking you with a huge cannon. Defeating the angel is total madman. He can't stand fall pretty easily. Once he destroy the patches of ice for this as simple as charging in and just attacking like a up to a thoroughly overwhelming offense and will does pick up his laser then wait for Ulthane to you. From here you can proceed to the exit using

cannon to destroy all of the enemies in your path. It's overwhelmingly powerful and can get those damn birdies while they're flying outside of melee range. For the stronger ones use rapid fire but try to use the charged blast on weaker ones to kill groups. With that in hand simply kill all of the enemies who come near you then turn your attention to Ulthane, killing the angels that he's battling. Use the rapid fire when dealing with these since the distance can be a bit tricky. War should have no problem at all keeping a good ten to fifteen kills ahead of him with the laser cannon. So long as you abuse the rapid fire this should be a breeze. Succeeding in this endeavor nets you the Combat Lore enhancement, a very good one at that. Ulthane opens a door to the next area where Uriel demands a fight with you. She is really easy so there's nothing to worry about. When you're at a distance Uriel throws a blue energy blade at you that's easily dodged by dashing to one of the sides but it's hard to attack her so avoid being too far away. Get in close to her and wait for her to fly up into the air. Pull back when she does this and then dash in after she smashes into the ground. You can hammer on her until she recoils away. Rinse and repeat until the fight ends. Now Ulthane sends you to kill the Griever before he will help you any. It's a good thing that we need to do that anyways. Proceed forward and drop down the hole in the ground to reach the waterway. As you head down this tunnel you can find a soul chest hidden behind a small waterfall after the first bend. Look on the northern wall. War can continue forward into the flooded tunnels just don't miss the soul chest to your left as he enters. Continue forward from here until you reach The Hollows. ======================== The Hollows ======================== As soon as you enter The Hollows you will be attacked by The Griever. Be sure to be ready for her, maybe make a backup manual save just in case. =================== Boss: The Griever, Rd. 1 =================== As tempted as you might be to do so don't pick up the cannon lying on the floor

just yet. Instead watch for the boss to fire off an energy laser at you. This is easily dodged by just running from side to side in the room and leaping over it whenever it comes your way. However if you have the cannon in hand then you won't be able to do jack squat about getting hit. All you can do is watch your health drain rapidly in that case so don't get caught with it in hand. Once her energy blast stops tracking you pick up the on the blue spot on her stomach. Charged blasts seem to the rapid fire works just as well. Keep firing until you charge up for another blast. Quickly drop the laser and get to yet another opening. Repeat this to chase her off. =================== cannon and open fire do the most damage but see her begin to dodging until you have

Unfortunately the Griever isn't dead, she's just retreating to lure you further into her lair. Drop the laser as you won't need it anymore. Search behind the clock tower she destroyed to find a soul chest before heading into the eastern door. There is a soul chest at the top of the stairs with a second at the far end of the upper level. With those in hand make your way back to the lower level, heading for the western door. Grab the health from the chest and navigate the next room by climbing along the demonic growths. There's nothing to surprise you along the growth so just head for the far door. Once inside the room you will note that there is a crystal mass blocking the way further. Also there are some small flying green pests in the room. Jump to the platform with the inert explosive before killing the flyers. Now use your aiming mode to throw an explosive at the crystals. With that done jump into the water and swim for the northern tunnel, taking out the fish as you go. Climb up the demonic growth to the topmost level where you will find a lever you can pull. This turns on the gas in the room, igniting a fire. Use your Crossblade to transfer the flame to the gas pipe to the left of the first one. Get rid of any flyers and then dive into the water. Get on the ledge with the inert explosive. This will give you a clear short to use your blade to transfer the flame from the second gas pipe to the third one, closest to the crystals. Get back to the upper level and traverse the two cables to reach the ledge where the crystal is. Now hit the fire and bomb to clear the way forward.

After the short scene in the next room head down the ramp. Drop off the side to find a soul chest and then dive into the water to find an artifact. Continue forward to face three of the Griever's minions, upgraded minor demons. These guys are fast and have some strong lunging / leaping attacks so be careful. When they are defeated enter the next room, a subway tunnel. Here three more of the Griever's minions attack and, when defeated, a magma demon busts out of one of the walls with three more minions in tow. This is a great place to use Chaos Form to avoid a bunch of damage. If not that then keep dashing around and focus on the minions first since they're more mobile than the big guy. Then try to stay behind the big guy as much as possible until he falls. With him down explore the hole in the wall he came out of to find a piece of Abyssal Armor. Further down the tunnel you can find another hole in the wall with a health chest to repair any damage sustained. Hop into the water and descend. Swim through the short tunnel, killing the trio of fishes that attack, until you reach the exit. Jump out of the water, turn to the west and jump into the water there. There are two levels to this submerged area but the upper level can't be explored thanks to a powerful fan churning the water. Take the lower level forward. After a bit of swimming a path will branch off to the north, jump out of the water here to find the Reaper weapon enhancement inside of a chest. Now keep swimming through the tunnels to the far exit where you will find a Soul Chest, a Wrathshard piece and a lever that is in need of being activated. When the lever is used the fan on the upper level underwater will stop. Swim on back to that point, taking out the fish that have spawned in, to find another way out of the water. This leaves you right near a chest with a Beholder's Key inside of it. Grab that and double back to the blue gate you saw just a moment ago, opening it with the key. Head through the door and down into the arena to see another floating chest, open it with attacks to find the Tremor Gauntlet. With that in hand a big blue demon will come out of the ground to attack. He's not exactly weak to the Tremor Gauntlet but it does seem to pack a whallop when

used against him. The only attack this demon has that's any real threat is his leap forward where he slashes at you twice with his claws. He does this move very fast and it's hard to dodge if you're not already out of range of the first attack so try to keep a bit of distance between you at all times. After you damage him a bit scythe demons and Griever's minions will leap down into the arena to help out big blue. After you damage him enough though you get the typical grab prompt, but this isn't an instant kill. The first time this prompt appears it's to ride his back while he lashes out all over the place. It is possible to jam the attack button whist riding to do extra damage but you need to get onto him twice to finish him off in most cases. When he dies his buddy comes to avenge him with a few of the Griever's minions in tow. This is much easier than the last round though so wipe them out. You can now use the Tremor to bust up ice patches so remove the ice blocking one of the walls and climb up to retrieve another Beholder's Key. Grab the health chests contents and then use the key to get out of this room. Use the Tremor again to bash the ice, swim through the sunken tunnel and emerge into a large chamber. Two of the three central northern tunnels have chests in them - the middle has health and the far one has wrath. To solve this puzzle head to the southwestern corner of the room and go up the stairs to find a moveable object. Follow the prompt to knock it onto the platform right in front of you. Walk over to the platform and activate the lever to cause it to rise up. Move the object that is on the now risen platform to the eastern gap and punch it across again. From here it gets a bit trickier. Climb on top of the object and leap to the easternmost raised platform. Look to the south to see a niche you can jump over to and grab the artifact. Get back to the platform and use the lever to lower it. Get back on over to the second platform and punch the object onto the third one. Raise the platform back up, move the object to the far northern wall where it will create a step to the upper level and leap on up. Here there isn't really any exploring to do so smash the ice wall and continue forward. Carve through the flying enemies until you reach a tunnel where the

Griever tries to get at you through the walls. Take it slow so that you don't get hit by the debris. There are two groups of minions that attack; one near the entrance, the other near the exit so be ready for them as well as her claw attacks coming through the ceiling. Follow the tunnel, bashing the ice wall at the end to reveal a familiar area. Kill the flyers and destroy the next ice wall to drain the water from the first of the puzzle rooms, granting you access to the earlier rooms floor. It will also allow you to head to the far side of the room and loot the map from the treasure chest. Ignore the flat bed in front of you for the moment as it needs to stay exactly where it is. Head up the stairs and activate the lever to cause things to move down below. Now punch the flatbed off into the corner before pulling / pushing the train car onto the circular platform. Go activate the lever again to place that train exactly where the flatbed was before. Push it straight ahead to get it into position. Climb onto it and up the demonic growth to reach yet another previous area. Bust through the ice and make your way back to the room War fought the Griever in. Here you will fight a new type of demon, a floating female demon with two swords. These dual-wielders are pretty dangerous, capable of taking an entire health bar if you're not blocking or dodging constantly. However if you wait for them to finish and then hit her with your Tremor Gauntlet combo she recoils away. Now dash in, causing her to recoil again, and perform the two punch combo to keep her stunned. Repeat this until she falls. This causes more demons to spawn in with follow up dual-wielders so try to get rid of the flunkies before giving the bad girls all your attention. It's not as hard as it might seem at first so long as you're careful. When they're all dead make your way to the upper level through the eastern door and bust through the ice here. The next room contains two floating blocks that need to be hit to create a way out of the room. Attack the far one and jump on immediately so as to create a path to the exit. This leads you to a room with

three gas mains, one of which is spewing flames, and a red crystal barrier. If you search behind the left train car you will find a chest with a Lifestone shard. That's great but we still need to find an explosive. Never fear! Head down the train tracks where you will see an enemy pacing. As soon as you near him two minions leap out of the ground, spewing fire your way. Immediately block to reflect the flames (hopefully) and then lay into them. It shouldn't be too hard to cut them down especially with the gauntlet in these narrow halls. The doorway at the end of this hall has a blue barrier requiring a Beholder's Key to get rid of and an explosive growth. Use the growth on the red crystal to blow it up and head through. Loot the soul chest before killing the flyers in this room. Now you can continue forward to the large circular chamber at the far end although there is a health chest if you need it along the way. Dive into the water in the chamber and swim to the bottom. You will see an open doorway so swim on through it. Make your way up to the surface where you will note ledges you can climb. After making your way to the top War will be rightn near a lever that needs to be activated but don't do it just yet. Instead swim across the pool to the far side and loot the soul chest. Destroy the ice here to reveal an inert explosive, throw one or two at the red crystals. Now go to both sides of the room, smashing the ice near the gears, and then activate the lever. This will allow you to reach the previously inaccessible treasure chest containing the Beholder's Key. All that is between you and the door are some flyers Upon opening the door you get to see the Griever savaging out of a train. While she's doing that go behind the car to her to finish. Once she does punch it with the Tremor as will grab it mid-flight and start attacking it next. This run past towards one of the tougher areas of the level. so get rid of them. the everloving crap your left and wait for hard as you can. She allows War to safely

When War enters the outdoor arena a pair of blue demons will move to attack him. This part is easy since all you really need to do is hit them with a car, throwing it preferably, and then get away from them so you can do it again. But

once you do enough damage to them enemies come diving down into the arena which causes this area to get cramped really fast. Undead and more minions back up the demons giving you little breathing space. If you have Chaos Form now is a good place to use it since the little cronies keep spawning in. But if that's not an option just single out the big guys and hit them hard and fast. Mix up sword dashes with Tremor combos to weaken them quickly so that War can ride them around a bit, damaging the other enemies. Once one goes down it gets a whole lot easier to fight these enemies. Once they're all down head to the northern tunnels to find a soul chest as well as the Hoardseeker ability. Prepare to be annoyed when you get this as it shows you all of the treasure chests you have missed and you will have missed a lot. It also shows you all of the artifacts you missed so you may want to have War go gather as many of them as you can get. Even this guide has glossed over a number of chests / artifacts in all areas because they weren't directly in your path or required sidetracking. This is a good point to make sure you've gotten all of the chests in this level. When you're done with that head to the west to find three scythe demons with another dual-wielder. Focus on her as she's the main danger and the others don't really attack fast enough. When they're defeated loot the chest and then activate the lever in the southwestern room. This will allow you to proceed all the way through the underwater tunnel. This path leads to a large canyon area. Drop down to the lower level and look to the left at the far end. Here you will see an ice wall waiting to be broken. When you do so the canyon floods just a bit. Swim back to the west until you see an opening in the rocks to the north. In here you can now reach a ledge that will take you out of the water. This takes you to platforms you can climb across all the way to another ice wall. Don't destroy it just yet though jump to the north across a small gap to find a Wrathshard piece. From here you can destroy the ice wall to let in enough water to escape. Go to the ledge with the treasure chest, you'll see it on your map, and then leap over to the nearby ledge to escape the canyon. It's a straight shot to reach The Griever from here.

=================== Boss: The Griever, Rd. 2 =================== Griever fights the same way she did the last time you dealt with her. When you try to get near her she blows you away with a great roar while she pelts you with a laser beam from her mouth at a distance. What has changed in this fight is your method of attack. Oh and this fight has two stages to it so go figure. Your first, and only, goal during the first part of this fight is to destroy all of the ice on the battlefield. If any of it is touched by the Grievers laser blast then it will change red. This makes it unable to be destroyed until it goes back to its blue color. Destroy all the ice on the field and if any ice should turn red then hang around in a corner, leaping over her energy blasts until it changes back to blue. Quickly smash it at that point and retreat over to the flat bed rail car. When a chance presents itself punch the car into her leg to knock her down. When she gets knocked down she flips out and begins smashing the sides of the tunnel causing large stalagmites to fall on your head. Run towards her so that the falling debris follows you before quickly running back to the car so you can punch it right back at her. Knocking her down the second time stuns her. This is the opening you need - run towards her and deliver a charged punch to the ice on her stomach to really make her angry. For the second part of the fight she calls in a whole bunch of those flying green things. While you're trying to deal with them she will begin to fire off her laser again so get behind the rail car and hide there while dealing with the little flyers. Remember that using the action command to kill them nets you a bit of health. When they're all dead punch the car into her twice to cause her to fall. Now rush in and just pound on the vulnerable spot on her belly with whatever attacks you like. All that's required is that you repeat this a second time to finish the Griever off for good. Enjoy the particularly brutal finishing cutscene she gets. Gotta figure that War isn't too pleased with her, huh? =================== After a cutscene with Ulthane wherein he grants you a powerful pistol called

Mercy. With this in hand head back to Vulgrim and use the Serpent Hole to reach the Scalding Gallows, returning your trophy to Samael. When the talking ends you can now head towards the next area. Or you can get sidetracked. Return to the Crossroads and northwest where you will find an ice wall. Break through to find a weapon enhancement inside, this one instilling your weapon with any other locations you left treasure chests behind now is a it out. When you're done with all that you can proceed with head to the chest with a fire. If there are good time to check the game.

Head to the northeastern part of the Scalding Gallows to find an ice wall. Bust through it and enter the sewer system. There are some zombies to deal with in addition to a soul chest stashed in a corner of the first room. In the large tunnel you will find some zombies and five bats on the ceiling. Get rid of them before destroying the ice wall. The game instructs you on how to use the Chrono devices to slow down time. Pull the lever, watch the cutscene and then pull the lever, throw the Crossblade at the Chrono device as you retreat so you can get under the door. There's an explosive demon here just aching to eat some cars so feed him! There is a soul chest stashed in the far corner and another up the stairs here. Climb the ledges and then jump away from the wall into the broken pipe. Search to the east to find an artifact before following the pipe. This will drop you off in the Dry Road. =================== The Dry Road =================== You're introduced to earth bats, giant bats that spew rocks at you, here. They can be auto-killed just as well as the regular ones but they can do decent damage from a distance with their attacks. Cut your way down to the center of this area, mowing down zombies as you go, until you see a pair of angels come out to attack you. These things are infused with some sort of energy, granting them more power to their attacks. Luckily they die pretty easily especially if you use the Tremor to keep them knocked down. After killing four of the angels you can continue on your way. To your south,

on the lower level, you an find a soul chest. Across the chasm here you will also be able to find a Vulgrim location. Unfortunately getting back across is not easy at this point and you will likely fall into the hole since War has some issues with curved edges (he falls off. A lot). Continue into the nearby tunnel where a blue demon will rush out to attack. It can be hard to fight in this area since the zombies get in the way so either use Chaos Form or spam your Crossblade to weaken him while pounding on him with combos. Once he falls you can proceed down the tunnel until you see a ceiling leech holding onto a box. This can be tricky if you're not thinking on your feet. Shoot him with anything to make him drop the box. Now quickly jump onto it, holding onto the ledge while the leech picks the box back up. From here you can either jump to the north or south. North nets you a treasure chest with a new enhancement while south lands you near explosives. Pick one up and throw it at the red crystals up ahead to clear the way. War can now leap over to the ledge and make his way to the left along it into the pipe. When you walk into this next room leap to your right (west) and glide to the demonic growth. Climb up to the top of it where you will find a soul chest. Now jump back to the starting platform, lock onto all three enemies with your blade and throw it. Immediately double jump / glide to the cable in the middle of the room. Once you make contact with it speed across using the dash button. If you do this right then you will reach the far side with no problems. Cling to the demonic growth and head to your right. After going around the bend head upwards to the top. Leap backwards to the other growth and follow it to the exit pipe. Walk through the pipe until an exit appears to your left and go out into the tunnel. If you look to your left here you will see stairs, go up them. Walk along this path until you see ice. Smash it and drop down into the hole to find a Lifestone shard. Further ahead is a Vulgrim Location and just beyond that the entrance to the Ashlands. =================== The Ashlands =================== This large patch of sand before you stretches all throughout the Ashlands area and there's plenty of treasure on it. Unfortunately trying to get to it is a

surefire way to get your butt torn apart. Hit the Chrono device with your blade and double jump / air dash into the sand. Once you hit the sand you're going to slow down to a crawl but that's as fast as you can go. Jumping doesn't seem to help the movement out so just slog across as fast as possible and try to jump out before you reach the far side. Follow the stone path and leap across the gap at its end. There is a soul chest to loot here as well as three angels to fight. Enter the tunnel once they're defeated and drop down at the far end to find a bunch of flying minions. These are harder to deal with though since they release electric bursts when they're in melee range. Grabbing them still works you just have to be fast about it or they'll damage you more than you can heal. Exit the tunnel to see the next chrono device you need stuck inside of a wooden structure. Head up the ramp and follow the outside of the structure until you see an open doorway. Walk past that for a moment and climb up the demonic growth to reach an upper level with a soul chest. Now go back down and use the demonic growth here to reach a switch you can activate. This lowers the chrono device to a more easily accessible point. Get back to your starting position, hit it with the Crossblade and run for your dear life. On the far side you will have a group of enemies attack as you're running along the stone path. For an easy kill simply use your dash attack or the Tremor to knock them off the ledge. Continue forward but do so slowly after you make the turn. One of the worms will destroy a part of your ledge so you've got to jump the gap. Continue forward along the path until a group of enemies slide down a cable to attack you from a wooden structure. Once they're defeated leap across the gap to the structure. The inside isn't safe to use just yet on account of spinning blades of death so climb up the growth on the outside to reach the upper level. Kill the demon here and activate the switch. This lowers the chrono device so that you an use it to move around inside of this thing. Use your Crossblade to hit the device, climb up the growth and then dash across it to the other side.

Hit the enemy here with the Tremor for a quick kill and then leap across the pit to the rocky looking demonic growth on the other side. Take out the enemies on the bridge but be careful since it's easy to get knocked off. Leap off the far side onto the Shadow Current, riding it to the next structure. Take out the enemies here and then climb up the growth along the outside to reach a room with explosives, a switch and a chrono device. Unfortunately you get locked in with the demons so you're going to have to fight. Just try to be careful around the spinning pillar so you don't take more damage than needed. After defeating the demons don't pull the lever. Use your Crossblade on the device and grab an explosive. Jump all the way down to the sand and toss the bomb onto the red crystals. After they explode you can use the switch to lower the chrono device to the lower level. Tag it with your blade and dash across that lovely demonic growth to get across before the blades spin too fast. Climb up the outside of the tower and follow it around to find a chest with some Life Essence in it. Cross the bridge to find yet more spinning columns! Kill the demon here before pulling the lever. Go back to the bridge and carefully leap to the lower level of this structure. Now hit the chrono device and quickly cross the demonic growth along the ceiling to the upper level on the far side. Exit the structure and follow it around the outside, killing the demon. Climb to the top of the large structure using the growth and kill that last demon up top. Use the switch to deactivate the structures drill. Drop the ground level and dive into the hole to find yourself in water. Your destination is to the northeast. When you enter the tunnel turn to the left where you will see a wall of ice. Destroy it to reveal a moveable block, drag it to the leech on the ceiling so that it lifts it up. Quickly grab onto one of the sides and ride it up. You'll want to leap off of it to the ledge where you can see another wall of ice. Shatter that to reveal a Chrono device. Your goal now is to activate the device and run to the southeastern part of the dirt area where you can see a cave. Normally the leeches would stop you from getting into the cave but if you use the device you can safely get in, grab one of the explosives and throw it at the red crystals on the ceiling. This will cause them to fall, creating a path

forward. In addition four angels come out to attack. Get rid of them but don't leave just yet. Turn to the east and leap over to the far ledge using Shadow Currents to reach a Lifestone shard. Now take the passage nearby, swim through the water and climb the demonic growth to reach the surface again. Walk to the south, along the fallen wooden structure, to find a soul chest. Enter the cavern nearby for quite a challenge. A big demon, like the Phantom General, orders a large group of soldiers to attack War. It starts off fairly tame with scythe demons and axe wielders on the attack. After that though you get scythe demons, an axe demon or two and a pair of dual-wielders. Try to keep the group off your butt and use the cages as projectiles to help weaken your foes. When they've fallen the big guy will come down to attack with two more dual-wielders and other minor enemies. It's important that you get rid of the others before focusing on the general. As you move around the battlefield try to dash into enemies to land blows where you can instead of standing still. The charging Tremor attack works pretty well for this but if you miss the retaliation can be pretty bad. If you're any good at counterattacks then now's a perfect time to practice them. The dualwielders are the main threat since they move so fast and do so much damage. When it's just the big guy he's actually a fair pushover. Wait for him to try charging at you and dash out of the way at the last moment. Attack him with the sword a few times but finish the combo off with a punch. This will often leave him staggered, ripe for another good sword combo. The Crossblade can help with weakening him so fling it around happily while doing this to finish him off pretty rapidly. As you go to head up the ramp don't miss the health chest to repair the damage you've taken during this battle. At the top of the ramp you get to cross a bunch of bridges - be very careful here since you can fall off if you aren't careful. But be sure to use that to your advantage, knocking enemies off of the ledge for an easy kill. Continue forward into the caves for a cutscene that seals you off from the path backwards. At the bottom of the ramp you will see that you're trapped in an arena with one of the worms. You're going to have to quickly move from one wooden structure to

the next rapidly to avoid being eaten. Wait for the worm to be as far away from you as possible before running through the sand for the first structure. From here you will want to move to the northern structure, then the eastern one and continue going east from there. Enter the cave to find safety from the worm. Loot the soul chest while heading into the next room. Here you will find an ambush - a number of scythe and axe demons attack followed up by a general. This would be hard enough but the damn general has an enemy with a Fracture Cannon with him. These enemies have about as much health as the general, do a whole lot of damage and can deal it out in spades from a distance or close up. Try to get rid of the one with the cannon first and then use that weapon to kill the general. It's incredibly strong and will make taking him out a breeze. When they're defeated search the room to find a wrath chest and health chest. With those in hand make your way up the ramp nearby. As you near the top War will find another Fracture Cannon as well as three enemies. Take them out before you move too far forward since there are two enemies wielding Fracture Cannons up ahead. The first is directly across the bridge while the second is to the right off in the distance. You can kill the one across the bridge pretty easily by simply spamming shots at him from far back. If you're a suitable distance away he won't even try to fight back as you blow his face off. Cross the bridge, dashing to avoid any of the enemy Fracture shards, so that you're in a better spot to dispatch the second one. As you move to walk over the second bridge a general and minions will come out to attack you. Spam the Fracture Cannon at the lot of them, playing keep away, until they stop moving. Cross the bridge and walk down to the ramp to start the next section and this one is pretty rough. Pick up the chest closest to you if you need health before moving forward. Once you move forward enough a Fracture general will leap down, busting up the ramp you just used and attacking you in really tight quarters. It's highly important you jam on that fire button like nobodies business so that you can kill the big guy before he damages you too much. As soon as he hits the ground

enemies begin climbing over the lip of the ledge to attack you so try to hang back near the far side of the platform shooting at them. You want distance because eventually enemies will begin to spawn on the platform you're standing on and they can end up behind you if you're not careful. When the enemies stop a general and Fracture general will spawn in right on top of you. Get rid of the general first so that he doesn't pound on you, just be sure to keep strafing and dashing whenever possible to avoid any cannon shots. Keep this up until they both all and the fight can move into its final stage. Here three Fracture generals will spawn on the ledges across from you while a scythe demon tries to lower the bridge. It's imperative you kill at least two of the enemies before that bridge lowers. Move away from the bridge, leaving the Fracture general there alone and get the other two as quickly as you can. It shouldn't be too hard to dodge them at this distance. So long as War stays away from the bridge the third general will not fire on him at all. When the bridge lowers enemies begin to rush over it but this is easy just blast away with the cannon until they're all dead. Then casually move forward to handle that last Fracture general. It may seem like all is clear but that's not actually the case. Grab the health chest and drop your cannon. Move as fast as possible for the exit, going up the ramps, leaping the pit and heading into the next area as quickly as possible. Enemies will not stop leaping into the area until you do so. They come from both sides, going right up your wahoozie until you leave the area so do it as fast as you can to avoid health drain. When you reach the next area you will get something of a boss battle in the cruel arena that Samael mentioned. =================== Mid-Boss: Arena Brawl =================== To start off with you will have to face a mounted warrior. This isn't actually very difficult to begin with. He only has two attacks of note - one is a basic sword slash he will attempt if you're near him while the horse is moving slowly around the arena. The other is a flaming dash that he can do where the horse suddenly rushes towards you, doing a good bit of damage. Try to keep away from

him until you see the horse rear up. At that point be ready to have War dash out of the way of the attack before lunging back in with a dashing strike. Hit it a few times then move away again. After doing this a bit some enemies will leap down into the arena to battle you alongside the warrior. Now is a good time to use your Chaos Form or your Wrath abilities. Use one of them to help kill off the horse as well as dealing with the regular cronies but don't use both. You're not near finished and will need your abilities to succeed easily. It may seem like a waste at the moment but you're saving your health for when things get bad in just a few. A duo of horsemen will come out alongisde a bunch of regular enemies. This is where you will find the rest of your abilities being very helpful. Try to use your Wrath attacks when they come within striking distance to get rid of these two as quickly as possible. If you can trick them into running over the flaming pits then that will help as well. This seems like a really bad next step but it isn't. A pair of big demons bust out of their cages alongside regular demons. The two big guys start off going after the little guys but will turn their attention to you when they run out of cannon fodder. Thin out the ranks of the enemies and then leave the rest of them alone. Charge one of the big guys and start laying into him. Goad him into attacking and then dash backwards away from him. Side dashes generally only get you hit so move away. When he's finished with his swing dash in with an attack and land one combo consisting of sword, sword, gauntlet. This should stagger the big guy. Now while you're trying to do this the second demon will come over so War will need to hang back. Throw things at the two demons but stay yourself away from them for the most part. If you see a safe opening dash in for a few hits and then get the heck out of there immediately. Keep doing this until one of them gets a grab prompt, do so to finish him off. Now you can fight this demon man to demon which should make for an easy kill. Defeating these two causes the main boss to come out riding a flaming horse. By this point you should almost have enough energy to transform back into the

Chaos Form so be ready to use that. He fights mostly the same as the first mounted demons except he has a few more tricks. If you stay behind him then he will have the horse kick backwards with flaming hooves. Hanging out near him causes him to sometimes blast off fire all around him while staying away will sometimes cause him to throw a ball of blue energy that explodes upon contact. However you can fight him like you fought the others. Keep your distance so you can dodge his attacks and the energy ball and dash out of the way when he tries to rush you. Get behind him when this happens so you can lay into his butt. Keep on doing this until you get enough energy to transform into the Chaos form again. Wait for him to dash past you so you can dodge him. When he does this he will typically impact a wall which keeps him in place for just a moment. Now begin attacking him in the Chaos Form and he will lose the rest of his health in very short order. When you see the grab prompt do so to advance this battle to its next stage. With him on foot he's far more mobile as well as dangerous. However he doesn't have much health and this fight is meant to be more of a flashy duel than it is meant to be hard so enjoy! If you hang back he will send energy blasts at War so try to keep close. When you see him start to swing his sword at you dash out of the way. After he finishes the second swing dash so you bump into him and start a sword combo. You can perform a full combo, knocking him back if you do it like this. His only other attack is a leaping slash but this is easy to get away from with a simple dash. Keep on dodging him and attacking until he falls. That's that but it's not quite over yet. This part of the arena begins with you getting banged around by the horse that the last demon was riding. Don't even bother trying to fight as it moves far too fast to battle, just dodge the horse until the cutscene plays. When the cutscene ends you will now be mounted on Ruin, your own horse! All of the demons in attendence leap down to attack you but they don't stand a chance now that the Horseman has his mount back. Ride around the arena slicing them to ribbons with ease. After you mangle enough of them the way out opens so you can leave the arena to go find your target.

=================== As you ride through the next hallway watch on your left for a soul chest. Your path will lead you back to the sandy area where you evaded the worm earlier. Now you can run along the sand with your horse, avoiding the worm fairly easily just don't get cocky since you actually need to KILL the worm now. This sounds really bad but if you've played Shadow of the Colossus this shouldn't be an issue at all. Basically all you need to do is ride around until the worm nears you. Now ride to the right while waiting for its head to rise out of the sand. When it does so start dashing while holding the shoot button down. War will keep shooting a glowing orb in the beasts mouth while dashing away from being hit. The worm does a lot of damage if you mess up but it shouldn't be too hard for you to stay out of harms way here. After enough damage use the grab prompt to finish off the worm in an impressive fashion. With that done you can head into the next cavern. Unfortunately the game forces you off of Ruin so you can't just ride him around here. It's time to pick up one of the cannons and enter another shooting gallery. This one is much easier than the last one especially after you get out of the small corridor you start off in. When you get into the open room it's much easier to move around and avoid enemy attacks. The only complication here is the giant demons from the arena coming to play. It's hard to focus on keeping them from killing you while the piddling minions keep on picking at your health. In these situations just remember that you have the ability to whack enemies in melee with the gun by pressing the attack button. This is surprisingly effective since it knocks enemies around and does a good bit of damage. Dive into the water at the end and swim down under the ledge. There is an artifact down here so grab that before surfacing at the far side. Jump out of the water and make your way through the tunnel, taking out scythe demons as you go. To your right will be a Vulgrim location while further ahead is the way forward (don't miss the health chest). When you're ready continue forward to reach the boss chamber. Numerous scythe demons have the Stygian held hostage. Hop onto Ruin and ride around, slicing the enemies to ribbons. This will continue until the Stygian

manages to tear itself free, leaving you to handle it. =================== Boss: The Stygian =================== This isn't a hard fight but it can be difficult to figure out what you need to do here. For starters this works like the worm fight from earlier with a twist to it; we need to get his mask off before we can fight him. Wait for him to try to eat you, riding around until he does so. Once he comes out of the ground run towards his side, dashing repeatedly until he surfaces fully. Now he will ride around on the sand for a short while. Ride alongside him, close to his face, and begin hacking at the metal mask. It's tricky but you should be able to cut it off after a bit of trying. This sends the fight into the next stage. Defeating this stage is exceptionally easy but it's something of a twoparter. To begin with the Stygian will burst out of the sand, screeching loudly. When it goes back under the sand three small white worms will emerge. Simply keep on moving away from them, dashing when they get too close, to stay awhile. To get rid of them just hold the lock-on button and the fire button down the entire time. This will let War keep a solid bead on them whenever they're vulnerable and fill them full of lead until they're destroyed. Killing its babies angers the Stygian, prompting it to chase you around like the regular worm earlier did. Ride away from it while shooting it in the mouth, dashing as needed to stay away from being eaten. Deal it enough damage and it will either return to calling up the baby worms or chase you around again after a bit of screeching. If it calls up more worms it will often call up four to give you less room to wiggle around in while its chasing is much harder to get away from without good use of your limited dashes. After the Stygian has taken enough damage it will fall to the ground in a slowmotion shot. Quickly dash over to its head while mounted and press the grab button to start the cutscene murder goodness. This isn't a hard fight in the slightest. Unless you're terrible at using the horse or judging how to dash you shouldn't have any problems clearing this entire battle without taking any damage. =================== With the heart in hand use Vulgrims nearby location to teleport back to the

Scalding Gallow to return the heart to Samael. Be careful though - the earlier, easy, enemies have been replaced by tougher ones so this is no longer going to be a cakewalk of a trip. After speaking to Samael return to Vulgrim and teleport to the Dry Road area to cut off some travel time. You're heading into the Ashlands but since you can move across the sand new areas are opened. Just don't think that you're going to be able to move without some sort of opposition. =================== Aslands Revisited =================== War's first destination should be to the east. Numerous electric flyers guard a soul chest over here so grab that. As you ride around you will be mostly on your own... until you head to the northwest. Here you will have to face four riders - the demonic four horseweenies of the Apocalypse if you will. Two of them, the ones with skeletal armor on their horses, are like the red armored boss you fought earlier while the other two are much easier. The best way to fight them is by riding around in circles. Keep them as far away from you as you can as you ride around in a circle shooting at them. After taking enough damage the targets horse will rear which is your indication to move on in. Ride in, deliver a hit or two and then ride away to repeat this process until the enemies fall. It's easy if not a bit repetitive but it's much better than staying close. All it takes is one attack to knock you off your horse so stay at a range until they are stunned. Killing them, while not necessary, allows you to reach several things. Firstly there is a Shadow Current on the ground to the east in this large clearing. Use it to get to the upper level and then climb the demonic growth to find another artifact. Make your way all the way to the north to find an ice wall behind it is a chest with a Wrathstone shard. With those in hand climb up onto the rocks just to the south and make your way across to reach the pillars. Charge Ruin right through the middle to reach the other side. That was pretty scary actually. Ride your horse through the long canyon until a cutscene ensues showing War behind ambushed by a bunch of glorfied bugs. He ends up trapped inside of a cocoon in the Iron Canopy. Press the grab button as instructed to escape from the webs holding you. ===================

Iron Canopy =================== Search to the northwest for a soul chest before crossing the web bridge to the northeast. Kill the lone spider (they can be instant killed via grabs) and tear open the webbing nearby. These are effectively the doors of the area so get used to them. Shatter the ice wall nearby to reveal a block, move it under the cable here and climb on top of it. The giant spider is immune to your attacks for now so use the Crossblade on the chrono device and speed across the cable to the far side. Drop down the pit and exit onto the streets to find that you're in another city area. Head up the ramp where an angel will attack you. Slaughter him and then cross the web bridge. Unfortunately it's a one way trip but there's nothing back there for us anyways. Head forward to be attacked by three more angels. When they're gone start checking the wall on your eastern side. One patch of the wall is a wooden cover and has a Wrath chest behind it. Grab that before going through the web door here. Leap down to the platform you see the ice patch on here. The giant pulsating things are egg sacs that will explode, releasing a spider or two, so they are not much of a threat. Shatter the ice to reveal a switch that will bring up an elevator containing a chrono device. Turn to the south where you should see a series of thin golden hand holds you can use to climb back up to the previous level or go all the way to the top. Get up to the top where you will find lots of spiders as well as a beam that is dangling from a web, pointing downward. Run across it to grab the lower chest with a map in it. Turn around and use your blade or gun to destroy the egg sac that is holding it down. Now make your way back to the upper level so you can jump on the bridge again. Stand on the point of the bridge closest to you until the far end is pointing up enough to reach the treasure chest. Now quickly use the Crossblade to hit the chrono device and run across to loot the top chest. This nets you a Beholder's Key. Leave the room, going back down the street until you see the demonic growth you can climb. Use it to get to the side of the building where the blue gate waits. The Beholder's Key unlocks the room so head on in.

Here you will have to use that big block to knock the giant spider down to the ground. Push it under the ceiling leech and climb up onto its western side, riding it up. Leap off onto the wooden platforms and then over to the chest on the far ledge. This nets you a Wrath Shard. Now use your Crossblade to knock the box out of the leechs' mouth, dropping it onto the web and knocking down senor huge spider. Drop down the hole in the southwestern corner and leap to the horizontal ledge, running across it to the far side and leaping backwards to the ledge there. When the stairs leave you in an alley a new type of undead soldier attacks the burning dead. These are engulfed in blue flames which means that they're harder than the other undead. Hey at least it isn't a palette swap. Anywho you have to deal with a whole bunch of them so stay aggressive. If they're knocked down then they can't strike you. You may find the Tremor Gauntlet useful for this situation. If you're having a hard time due to all of the little spiders or that the enemies are surrounding you then use the Scythe to cut them down. Climb up the nearby stairs and glide over to the artifact on the building across from you. Now go into the web door nearby. This room seems complex at first but it's actually fairly simple. Drop down into the pit in front of you where you will find a moveable object with bombs on top of it. Pull this into the corner where you see a metal grate, leaving it there. Climb up the demonic growth to the first level and use the switch near the door you entered the room from. This raises the bombs up to your level. Use the Tremor to punch the whole block across the pit and pull it onto the elevator on this side of the gap. Turn to the demonic growth on this side of the pit, using your blade or gun to get rid of the explosives attached to it. When you try to climb it two of the skull clusters will attack you. Just use a vertical attack with your sword to make them hide away while you climb. At the top use the switch here to raise the platform up to you. With all that done you can pick up a bomb from the block, using it to destroy the red crystals that block the exit. The next room locks you in with several burning undead and a blue armored demon

way back from Tiamat's lair. This is only difficult because of how small the room is so feel free to use any environmental objects as weapons to clear up some extra space. When they're defeated a powered up magma demon, a rock demon, comes dropping down to attack. He's actually easier to fight than the magma demon since he only has two attacks he uses. A charge that, if dodged, sends him face first into a wall where you get a free combo, or a one-two flaming punch combo that's easy to dodge and leaves him wide open. Defeating the enemies clears the path but don't leave just yet. Go through the southwestern door to find a soul chest. Now you can leave the room to wind up in another room with spiders. There's no reason to fight them unless you want the health you get from the instant kills or are going to use the beds to help towards the "Improvised Kills" achievement / trophy. Leaving this room puts you back outside near a door that is blocked by some sort of barrier. It looks like one that can only be dropped by killing enemies but there are no enemies about. Walk off the ledge to the west to continue but don't forget to look behind you when you land to find a health chest. War's destination is across that flimsy looking bridge so get to running. Tear through the web door to find a blue barrier blocking your path. Well the only way to go is to your right so start walki... crap. It's fine, making our way to the north brings us to a room with a chained up item. This nets you the Abyssal Chain, an item which will allow you to platform around via the floating orbs you've been seeing all game long. Grabbing this prompts one of the giant spiders you've been seeing to come out and play. These guys are kind of tough but they're still very simplistic. =================== Sub-Bosses: Armored Spiders =================== Basically what you're trying to do is get into a rhythm of dodging their simple attacks with enough time left over so you can dash in for an attack before they start attacking again. They only have two attacks - eight claw swipes with very little range or a leap where they try to crash on top of you. The swipes are easily dodged by dashing backwards once and backpedaling away until they stop. The leap though, that's tricky. If you dodge too early they can autocorrect a bit to still land close enough to hurt you but if you dodge too late the area

of effect will catch you. Try to dodge while they're at the peak of their jump to maximize your chances. As soon as the fight starts use the Abyssal Chain to yank off his shell so that War can actually hurt him. Wait to see what he does now and respond. If he uses his claw swipes just calmly hang back until the spider stops. Dash in with your sword to do some damage before dashing back away from him. Do the same thing if he tries to land on your head, getting away from him until he lands and then diving in with a few attacks while he's on the ground. You're going to have to whittle him down over time if you hope to kill him. =================== With him dead you're free to explore again. This also gets rid of one of the four icons barring that door in your way. Anyways get to the northeast to find a Wrath chest and grab the health chest just outside of the room if you didn't do so already. Now it's time to make use of this newfangled chain. Grapple to the point above War and swing onto the upper ledge. From you can grapple to the growth, making your way to the top. Leap to the ledges above you and run around until you get to the far side where you can climb up. Drop down into the large room and go to the eastern wall to find some demonic growth. Climb up it before using the grapple point in front of you to reach the far side where the chrono device is located. Don't use that just yet though. Grapple to the red point above you, leaping off of it into the room nearby to find a chest with a piece of Abyssal Armor in it. Go back to the lower level and face the chrono device. Change to the blade, throw it at the device and quickly run back towards the large room. Along the way change back to the chain. Climb up the two ledges to reach a new grapple point; swing across it, right past the two leeches thanks to the time slowdown. Here you can grab a health chest and the Beholder's Key to open the door. Before going outside turn to the left. See that soul chest that tempted you a bit earlier? Double jump / glide towards it and use the chain to grapple all the way over. After getting it you can make your way back to the exit, heading back outside. To get over the chasm just grapple to each of the points in turn,

getting to the far side easily. Proceed into the building where you will have to fight another Armored Spider, this one with some regular spiders as assistance. It's not much of a challenge. Keep doubling back until you reach the outside area where you first fought the burning undead. Go back up the stairs you used to reach the artifact and turn to the east. Jump into the air and grapple to the red point to be pulled into a loot room. Here you will find a health and soul chest as well as another one with a Hoardseeker. Continue making your way back to the starting point, taking out the third Armored Spider as you go. This one is a bit tougher as the burning undead are a huge pain in the rear end to deal with while dodging the spider. This is a good place to use either the Chaos Form or to get judicious with your use of Wrath abilities, namely Blade Geyser. Take your pick! When you get onto the streets don't go after the last spider immediately. Go to your starting point and use the grapple to reach a soul, wrath and health chest before bothering with the last spider. Be mindful that when you pull this one down he's going to go through the floor, leaving you in a really tight space to fight him. However this is actually pretty easy all things considered so take him out, use the health chest and then continue into the next room for a really tough fight. =================== Mid-Boss: Massive Spider =================== This fight is one of the more infuriating ones in the game. It's very easy to complete it without taking any damage at all but until you learn the pattern to the bosses attack you might find yourself actually dying. Yeah, it's that sort of fight and boy is it a doozy. It's important to realize that the Spider has three moves you need to learn. First is his stomp attack - if you see him jump then you have to be in the air before he hits the ground. This deals ridiculous amounts of damage so you don't want to be on the ground when this happens. Leap before he lands and glide if you want to be really careful. Later on in the fight he will do this multiple times so be ready for that.

Second be ready for his charges. These do massive amounts of damage but they're easy to dodge. Just keep running in one direction and when he rears back to start the move dash twice. He'll never hit you. But if he does... urgh... What you're waiting for is for him to start breathing in. When he does this use the chain to pull one of the cocoons on the ceiling down and toss it into his mouth. While he is going all om-nom-nom on the poor schmuck trapped inside get behind him and use the chain to pull yourself in. Start attacking the crap out of his butt to shatter the ice. If you try to walk over he will just slam the ground, causing you to take damage and making the fight take longer. Don't try anything fancy, just use the chain and then air combo with the sword. He will go down pretty fast if you just stick to this. =================== Drop down into the next room and follow the path into a larger room. Watch the naga slither away before looting the health chest. Follow the beast into the next room to find a big battle awaits. Take out the naga and it will spawn in some burning undead along with a second naga. Taking them all out calls up two of the big blue demons at the same time. Enter the next hallway to see a bunch of Shadow Currents. Leap into the first one but immediately double back the way you came to reach the chest above you. This contains a War's Glory enhancement. Now comes the fun part, trying to get across this chasm without dying a whole bunch of times. You're going to have to use the Shadow Currents along with the grapple points to get across. The only tip that will really help you is to remember to let go of the grapple points only when you are at the top of your swing to actually reach the next Current or grapple point. Continue along until you reach the hall where you first used the Abyssal Chain. Here you will be attacked by two blue axe demons. When you manage to take one of them down angels will begin to attack alongside the demons, three at once. When the two big guys fall down one of the rock demons will come out to attack alongside three more angels. Stay mobile here if you don't want to take a whole bunch of damage since they can combo you with ease.

Don't bother going towards the boss yet, go back to the starting area. Pass on through the building to the north into the alleyway. Use the grapple point to get up to the treasure chest on an upper level to find a Greater Life Essence. With that done it's time to fight Silithia. Head for the large door that was sealed up earlier to find the final tunnel between you and her. Use the grapple to move along the demonic growths and grapple points until you reach the door to her chamber. =================== Boss: Silithia =================== Not for nothing this lady is fairly disturbing to listen to. Also she's one of the more annoying bosses in the game simply because it's basically impossible to defeat her without losting at least some of your health thanks to the quirk of how she fights. Silithia really only has one means of attacking you to begin with and that's a slash with her front claws. She can do this standing still or rushing forward but they're both about the same damage and attack range. However she loves to teleport around the room, landing right on your head. This does a good bit of damage, especially on higher difficulties, and is really hard to avoid. The only reliable way to do so is to move around the outside of the room, strafing to the side and dashing like mad when you see her appear above you. Defeating her is simple. Dash in close to her and use the Abyssal Chain to grab her face, pulling yourself in. As soon as you reach her attack until she either recoils or you land. Either way get away from her. Silithia will begin to move around the room incredibly fast at this point but keep dodging her like you did before until she stops so you can grab her face and combo again. The problem is that sometimes she goes off her proverbial rocker. She bounces from the wall, to trying to land on you, to wall, to wall and then trying to land on you over and over. She doesn't stop doing this until War either takes damage or lands enough damage on her. Dealing damage requires waiting for her to appear near you and attempt to slash you. You have to dodge to the side to avoid the attack then dash in close, hacking her a few times. This will cause

her to stop but don't count on it. It's more likely she continues doing this until she hits you which is great. After you hit her a few times she will retreat to the ceiling and deploy the red orbs. This means the fight is basically over. Grapple to one of the orbs before grappling to her face. A cutscene will play showing War tearing Silithia a new one. =================== Before leaving use your Crossblade on the floating object to cause it to start moving. Quickly switch to the chain and hang from the orb on the bottom. As it starts to rise up swing off to the side to land on a middle level you've never explored. There is a soul chest and artifact located here so grab them. Drop to the lower level and continue on your way. Cross the Ashlands atop Ruin, stopping at the nearest Vulgrim location. Use up your souls and then travel the Serpent Hole to the Scalding Gallows. Before you speak to Samael you can now explore a few things. There is a grapple point in the library that leads to a Wrathstone shard so grab that now. With that in hand you can return to Samael. After the cutscene ends follow this incredibly long passage to reach the Black Throne. Awfully comfy looking place if I do say so myself. ======================== The Black Throne ======================== This is an incredibly simply area to navigate. Make your way straight forward to the central area where another cutscene will play. Now you need to solve a few puzzles to get energy to Azrael so that you can help free him. This isn't that hard actually considering you're nearing the end of the game. Enter the first room but don't go anywhere just yet. Hit the glowing blue icon on the wall to cause the wall to shift. Go to the south through the door where you will find another blue icon. Hit this to cause the wall to your east to shift before doubling back to your starting point. Use your blade on the icon here to cause the wall to shift back to its original position. Now you can pass through the two walls. Now hit the target on the eastern wall again to cause it to shift so that you can get through to the far side, near the soul chest. Make your way over there,

leap to the chest then come back. From this position hit the icon on the wall to cause it to shift, trapping you here. That's fine just use the chain to swing across the pit. Head up the stairs, which are now open thanks to moving the wall around, to find yourself on the upper level. Travel to the west along the narrow path so that you can hit the icon on the eastmost wall. This opens the way to the exit. On the outside you will be attacked by a phantom dual-wielder. These guys are more or less the same as the earlier ones except they can only be hurt in a very small window where they are attacking you or recovering from doing so. War will have to move quickly to capitalize on it. Luckily once you knock them on their butts once it's easy to keep doing this over and over until they die. Next up comes a flipping puzzle! Flip over the left switch so that the two grapple points are hanging down. Next use the right one to cause the first and third grapples shift into a better position. Now use the crossblade on the gem on the first point, causing it to flip over and creating the bridge. If you happened to fiddle around this one can be pretty hard but it's still just a matter of flipping the ledges until you get the desired effect. Once that's all done swing across the gap. If you need it there's a wrath and a health chest over here. If not then leave them be since you'll need them on the return trip. Enter the door to find a health and soul chest, use these as you see fit before dropping into the center of the arena. You are immediately attacked by a trio of corrupted angels, much more powerful versions of the original ones. However they're very succeptible to your antiair attacks as well as the Abyssal Chain so they're not that bad. What is bad is when the big red demon bursts up from the ground, ready to tear you a new one. Fighting this guy is done in much the same manner as you would fight his blue bretheren he just hits way harder than they ever did. This is a great time to use the Chaos Form especially if you've still got some angels flying around. When he falls more angels will be attacking alongside a phantom dualwielder but this is a pretty easy fight. Stay aggressive against the phantom while trying to avoid the angels and this will be over before you know it. Finishing the battle unlocks the skull on the ground which nets you the Void

Walker, a teleportation tool. Follow the instructions on screen to get onto the upper level and follow the path to its end. Here the game explains how to use the portal charge ability to propel yourself into the air. Loot the soul chest and then put a portal across from you, then drop down to the ground into the portal there to get by the pit. Now put one portal on the icon on the wall before stepping on the switch on the floor. Run to the end of the hallway where you will find another icon and some explosives. Put a portal on the icon, then throw an explosive at the red crystal barrier through the portal to clear the path. Leap through to make your way up onto the highest level. Step onto the switch and then run across the bridge as it forms, doing your best to avoid the annoying bats. Kill them once you're on the far side. Now stop and wait for just a moment; one of the most important treasures in the game is in this room so let's get it now. Step onto the ledge to start a bridge again so you can get to the far side. Take our your Void Walker before getting the bridge started. Run across it and quickly shoot a portal to your left where you should see a portal icon. Double back to the portal locations you just used, jumping into one of them. This puts you on an upper level - step on the switch in front of you and cross the bridge to get Fury's Embrace. This is a Hoardseeker item except it works everywhere in the whole game world. Get back to the lower level, crossing the bridge again and then ride the two Shadow Currents up to the top. Loot the health and wrath treasure chest before placing two charged portals on the icons. Leap into the one on the door to get propelled up into the air. Make your way out onto the tower roof to fight your first quasi-boss of the dungeon. This isn't a fight so much as it is a puzzle. Defeating the boss is as simple as goading him into swinging his weapon. Once he does so and it's caught on the floor place two charged up portals, one near you and the other nearby him. As you are shot out of the portals aim yourself so that you land on him. Press the action button to bring him down to his knees where you can hurt him. Attack him in the stomach until he starts to rise and then immediately run away. The golem goes a bit nuts so stay away until he calms down, dashing as needed. Repeat this three times to finish off the boss.

Now you need to redirect the soul flow back to Azrael so place a portal where the soul beam is touching the icon. Continue on your way back to the lower room and place a portal so that it lines up with the door to blow that away. Once the door is gone dismiss this portal and continue down the hall. Follow the corridor to its end where you will find an elevator - place another portal here to start it up. The elevator carries the charge down to the bottom of the tower where you have to place the two, very obvious, portals to open the door back. The charge is now in the door so exit back outside. Yay for another throwdown! This one starts out with two phantom dualwielders which is hard enough to begin with. But once you kill one of the phantoms a big red demon spawns in. Oh and shortly after that four angels will come to attack you. This is a great place to use your Chaos Form to show these enemies who is boss. If you've gotten the War's Glory enhancement then this will carry you through the fight, letting you slaughter at will. Also, if you left the Wrath chest here alone earlier now's a good time to use some of those abilities since a free refill awaits. When you're done with the enemies place a portal on the icon on either side of the bridge to transfer the energy. Enter the room with the moving walls now. Get the wall nearest you to move so that you can reach the two portal icons. Place a portal on either of them and now move the walls until the energy is able to travel to the far end of the room. This is really simple since each of the walls only has two positions to it. This returns you to Azrael for a bit of cutscenes. When they're done find the lowered platforms along the western wall and use your portals to climb up to the top of them. From here you can leap to the platforms spinning around the Angel of Death, climbing all the way up them to the top. Walk forward into the next room to find another "run for your life" test. Wait for the platforms to appear underneath you and leap over Run across them as fast as you can to avoid the bats, stopping on ledge after you leap onto it. Take out the Abyssal Chain and use it the bats, blocking their ranged attacks until you can do so. When dead onto them. the first to take out they're all

place a portal on the icon on the ledge near you and another on the wall. Now follow the platforms until you can get to the portal to safety. This path leads you outside to a rather simple puzzle. Place a portal on the spinning block in front of you, then another on the icon to your right. Now stand by this icon watching the portal in front of you. The spinning block will eventually face a second portal icon so fire a blast through your portal at the icon, getting the portal on that one now. Continue watching the portal until you see it facing the far side. Leap through at this point to land on the far ledge, clear of the pit. There are two health chests here as well as a wrath chest but before you can use them you're locked into the area. Four axe demons come out with a general to attack. Defeating them summons up a phantom and defeating that summons up yet another general. It's an all-around party over here! Since there's the health chests try to fight this without using too much Wrath or your Chaos Form since damage isn't that big of a deal right now. Try to get rid of the general before the axe demons since the phantom is a bigger threat if she's fought with the general. Besides that this isn't that hard of a battle. Step inside the building and go down to the ramp to find a chest. Loot it to cause a large group of enemies to attack you. This fight is only made hard by the fact that you can fall off the edge of the platform pretty easily. Make liberal use of Blade Geyser to knock enemies off the platform while you stay near the middle, killing everyone that comes near you. Do it fast or the blocks will fall out from underneath you, dealing a good bit of damage. With that done you need to solve a somewhat annoying puzzle but it's not too bad once you get the hang of it. First open a portal on one of the two upper elevators and another on the nearby wall icon. Push a block through and then do it again to the other elevator. Use the portal to get onto the elevator that doesn't have a block on it and face one of the other two. Create a portal that will bring the big brick on that elevator onto the one you're currently on. As soon as you do that jump on top of the elevator you're doing that to. This will allow you to ride it to the top of the room. Open the health and wrath chest before opening the door to the next room.

Ride the Shadow Current up and move forward but watch behind you. Up on a high ledge you will see a portal icon. Place on there before continuing forward. Near the ice wall that hides a Hoardseeker is another portal location. Place it there and hop through to find a Lifestone Shard inside a chest. Continue forward and place a portal above the Shadow Current. Now leap into it, riding it through the portal, out the portal in the floor (the one near the ice wall) and into another Shadow Current. It will deposit you near a soul chest. Grab the contents and then leap / glide over the pit. This leads to an elevator that will take you up to the roof of the tower. Here you will have to fight yet another of the soul golems. The only difference is that you have to make him use his mace to clear the portal icons off for you. When he falls the soul beam begins again so it's time to escort it! Place one of the portals right there where it hits the icon and another on the icon at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Grab the health chest if you need it and then go to near the elevator. Use your Crossblade to hit the three mirrors in quick succession using the target lock; this brings the energy to the elevator and allows you to use it. The next room is the one with the two blocks and three elevators. Get a block onto the eastern elevator with the reflective mirror on their bottom. Now get the second block onto the elevator with nothing on the bottom of it. This will move them into the positions that you need them to be in to reflect the soul beam to the door. Just place the portal on the eastern portal icon so that it reflects properly and you're done. Go back outside to where the spinning columns are and put a portal on the first column. Head over to the side portal location, waiting until you see the next portal icon through it. Fire a portal through it before dismissing the portal on the wall in front of you. Now place another portal on the first pillar to successfully chain the soul beam through to the far side. Travel across now and go through the door to reach another puzzle. Put a portal on the wall near you and fire one off towards the southwestern part of the room to reach a Wrath Core shard. Pull the lever to open the gate now. Jump to the platforms as they move by to escape this room.

Now you have to deal with another more complicated puzzle. Climb across the grapple points, leaping to the soul chest. Now make sure one portal is on the wall near the entrance and the other is near the exit. From here you have to quickly travel across the disappearing platforms while you hit the three mirror things with your crossblade. Try to target lock the first two from the entrance area but only throw once you start to move along the platforms. Quickly get on the first stable ground and throw the blade at the last mirror, completing the energy circuit. Get across the room and ride the elevator down. Here the energy will transfer to the main room with Azrael. Look along the walls until you see a bomb growth; get to that and throw the bomb at the red crystals on the spinning walls. Now you can place a portal up there and another on the lowest level to transfer the energy to Azrael. With that done you get to watch some cutscenes. With the Hoardseeker / Fury's Embrace in hand you may want to retrieve some of the chests that we missed. There's a good four or so of them between the two areas. It's imperative that you get Fury's Embrace at some point, located in the first tower, because it's otherwise near impossible to find all of the chests in the game. Detour time: It's time to climb the southmost part of the level. Unfortunately to do this we're going to have to do some tricky climbing. There is a cubby here with a portal on the wall and on the floor. You could do some tricky leaping to get a charged portal to propel you high enough but it's a waste. Simply climb the floating platforms in the middle of the room again until you're near the southern cubby and leap / glide to the ledge. It's a small one and it won't be obvious that you can make it but if you leap for enough you will succeed. Head into the southern room to find a soul chest waiting to be looted. There's a portal icon on the wall and one tucked into the cornerto the southwest. Go over there, put one on the ceiling then on the wall. Now all you need to do is glide after getting through the portal to reach the upper ledge where War will find another artifact. Go to the western part of the room to watch the spinning platforms.

Yes this is another somewhat tricky puzzle. Put a portal on the platform that lowers in front of you. Go back to the portal on the wall and watch for another portal location to move in front of you. Place a charged portal through your current portal onto that location. Now make sure the portal you've got in front of you is charged up as well before leaping through when the coast is clear through the portal. This propels you to the far side of the hallway. Proceed down the steps here until you reach the bottom. Place a portal on the wall here while placing a second on the spinning platform in the next room. It is important that they're charged portals or you won't make the distance needed to clear the room. When you're ready leap through to reach the far side. Leave the portals as they are but place another charged on on the wall in this room. Use the abyssal chain to pick up an explosive and throw it through the portal when it's facing the red crystal to destroy it. Leap through on the next full rotation to reach a chest with an abyssal armor piece. While you're here hit the crystal with your blade to open the door to the main chamber with Azrael. Now cross back to the room with the red crystal on the floor (at the bottom of the stairs), delete the portal on the spinning block and place one on the wall here. This creates a straight path to the far side of the hallway. Go back to the previous area, finally having the ability to get a bomb on the crystals on the floor. When you destroy it the portal raises way up into the air. Place a charged portal on top of the pillar and another on the ground nearby; leap in to reach the uppermost ledge with a Beholder's Key. Now we can leave this area but don't leave through the door you opened, head back to the entrance area. Stand on the ledge and leap onto it, making your way to the top. Leap on over to the ledge where you can use the Beholder's Key to open the way forward. Ride the elevator to the top, taking out several groups of undead and burning undead. Now make your way out into the arena to face a fairly tough challenge. It starts out with four burning undead along with a poison demon but once you kill the undead another poison demon comes out to attack. This still isn't that bad but it gets really bad when you kill one of them. Up comes a golden demon

with a hammer and shield. This is like the blue ones with the ice attacks but much worse. Their attacks are stronger, can knock you off the platform for some extra damage and they have a bunch of health. Take out the poison demon first before focusing on the golden demon. Then try to goad him into attacking before you move back and dash to the side. This will get you out of his hammer range almost every time. Once his hammer is in the ground use a dash attack then slash a few times but before the combo ends hold the sword button to perform the pop-up attack and then flip saw. Now you need to keep repeating this until he dies without falling victim to his spinning hammer attack. When the demon falls exit the room through the door to the west. Place a portal on the spinning tower in front of you and another on the icon to the north. Place a charged portal through the one on the wall but be ready for a swerve. The way you need to go is blocked by red crystal so grab the bomb on the wall and chuck it through the portal to get rid of that problem. Now dismiss the portal on the wall and make sure it's a charged one before leaping through to the safety of the platform here. From here you need to leap to the ledge but wait until the platform turns to face the ledge, not just leaping like a fool. When you land enemies will begin to attack in waves. It starts with a golden and poison demon but once one of them dies undead begin spawning in. Then yet another golden demon spawns in with another poison demon. Oh and when you take out all of them then a pair of golden demons spawn in. Do your best to fend off the enemies for as long as possible using Wrath abilities but once you start to take too much damage use Chaos Form. This makes golden demons a breeze and will make your life much easier. Loot the health and wrath chests before heading on into the final tower. Grab the soul chest at the bottom of the stairs before doing anything else. There's also an artifact to pick up from inside the water in the northwestern corner here. Once you've got that put a portal on the icon against the wall and then use the switch on the wall (activated with your blade) to send it under the water. Go to the south now to find another portal icon waiting to be used. Place a portal on it to drain the water into this room.

Swim across, activate the switch there and then go back to the entrance to find another switch. When you activate this it causes the entire center of the room to spin a bit. This reveals a new portal location so place a charged portal on it and then another in the northwestern room so you can get fired into the elevator. Use the switch to go up to the top of the tower to fight the next, and last, Soul Golem. This is much the same as the last two fights with the one exception that the icons are on the wall. Place one portal on one of the two lower icons and the second on the uppermost location. Wait for him to smash the ground before going into the portal. Now glide down slowly onto his head to get the action prompt. With that exception this fight is pretty much identical to the previous ones. Place a portal on each wall to use the soul beam to destroy the wall. Get rid of the portal on the wall above the switch and continue down the newly opened hall. You will find another portal location so put a portal there to power up the elevator, allowing War to ride it down. All that's needed in this area is for you to hit the one mirror that's out of place to open up the door. Getting the energy across the pit outside is just as easy as the rest of this path. Just place a portal on the floating tower in front of you and another on the wall nearby. Fire a second portal through the first and then put one back on the first floating platform. This completes the circuit. Head over to the far door and get back into the building. Leap into the Shadow Current, riding it over to the side. Loot the health chest before using the portals to get to the upper level. Make sure they both charged up and when you land up top dismiss the one on the wall only. Get the souls from the chest here and place a portal on top of the floating platform in the middle of the center platform. Leap into the portal you left on the floor to be shot up into the air, grabbing a Champion Artifact. With all that done it's time to move the beam further through the tower. Strike the switch on the floating block with your crossblade to make it spin once. Now go over to the portal on the wall where you will find a chrono device. You'll

need to use this in a moment. Place a portal on either of the two locations on the floating brick. Now strike the chrono device it with the blade from a distance and move back to the main room. Hit the switch on the side of the floating brick then quickly hit the two icons near the door to the elevator to open it up. The slow motion will clear away placing the beam right into the elevators soul orb. Mosey on over, riding the elevator back down to the lower level. From here it's a simple matter o using two well placed portals to transfer the energy back to Azrael, clearing the path to Straga. Walk down the stairs, loot the health chest and then ride the elevator to the boss battle. =================== Boss: Straga =================== Hey I remember you! You're so totally going to die for what happened earlier! Amusingly enough this is a fairly tough boss fight even if you know what you're supposed to be doing to actually even hurt this guy. However much of this is due to the fact that getting hit by Straga hurts like hell. Any time you make a boo-boo you will take a whole load of damage so be very careful here. To begin with Straga only has one attack to use. He slams the hammer down onto the ground. This is actually how you're supposed to attack him but if you find yourself having to dodge it then simply place a portal on the ground, one on each of the locations on the ground. Simply step into one portal and exit the other to avoid his hammer attack. However you're supposed to attack him instead of avoiding this move. Place a portal on the side of his hammer while he's holding it and wait until he holds it behind his head. Now dive into the portal near you to be ejected from the portal on the hammer, landing on a "ledge" on his back. Quickly use the action prompt to stab him in the back. This knocks Straga down and lets you tear into his face for a bit. After this he will stand up and summon in some enemies to attack you. The first time you damage him he summons up burning undead. They're not too hard to get rid of but you have to deal with him attacking while you're doing this. Straga now has two attacks for you to be worried about: - Charging up his fist he slams it into the ground, trying to pancake you. This

is ridiculously hard to dodge so it's best if you just create two portals on the ground to help avoid. Wait for his fist to raise up totally and give it one moment before diving into a portal. He will slam his fist down, totally missing you and likely damaging your foes instead. - Other times he will sweep his hammer across the arena in a really hard to dodge attack. It can be double jumped if you are close enough to leap over the handle but that can be hard to judge. Should you be having problems with this attack it may be better to instead try deploying two fully charged portals so you are shot into the air over the hammer. With all that in mind defeating him is as simple repeating the whole process of getting onto his back three times. The only thing that changes is that he will summon angels instead of undead the second time you hurt him. This is harder than the earlier fight but still not terribly difficult. Take down that big monkey and make him pay for what he did to you! =================== Cutscenes ensue before you're taken off to the next area. ======================== Eden ======================== Run forward, ignoring the health and wrath chests for now, until you get to a cutscene. This leads into a boss fight, yay! In addition you're given the Mask of Shadows, an item that allows you to gather the last of the treasures that you haven't been able to find so far in the game. This, paired up with Fury's Embrace, allows you to find pretty much everything left in the game to find. =================== Boss: Shadow of War =================== It seems that all the time you spent gathering souls from demons has left its mark upon your very self. So you're going to have to fight yourself to prove your worthiness. However for all the pomp and hoo-hah behind this battle it's an incredibly simple battle so long as you're quick on your feet. Defeating the Shadow is as simple as goading him into attacking and then moving in to land some hits before he recovers. There's no real "good" way to fight him but it's still possible to beat him without taking much damage. The only real note that has to be stated is that you don't want to move too far away

from War since he will dash attack you if you're not careful. Just hang close but give yourself enough space to dash out of the way and then dash in with a few hits. When he changes into his Chaos Form do the same and just start swinging. He will fall very quickly, giving War a pass into the Garden. =================== Either double back for the chests you left, including the hidden soul chest you can reveal with the Mask of Shadows, or continue forward. Use the Mask to see the bridge so that you can cross over it. On the far side head into the water to your east and search it for the three chests. All are hidden in the Shadow Realm but only the very last one, hidden behind a waterfall, is hard to find. Two contain souls but the last has a piece of the Abyssal Armor. Start making your way up the stairs but watch your western side. There is a pool of water here that you must jump down into. Search around under the stairs here to find a chest with a Wrath core shard inside of it. With that in hand get back on the stairs and head up to the Tree. After the cutscenes end head on back to Azrael to start more cutscenes. Pick up any remaining chests before you leave Eden as it's a one way trip. ======================== Search for the Blade ======================== Now you need to find the pieces of the Armageddon blade. You have one piece and there's another right across the bridge from you. Take note that you need to have the mask on to see the blade shards. Drop down from the ledge, grab the soul chest hidden in shadows and then go to the Vulgrim location. It's best if you use the Serpent Holes to move around to gather the chests from the numerous locations across the land. But first let's head to Anvil's Ford so we can speak to Ulthane about the blade. Now is a great time to travel pretty much through the entire game again and pick up any chests you may have missed. There's going to be plenty of them so you've got a lot of walking ahead of you. Most of them will have been missed in outdoor areas because you've not had all of the abilities to get the items but some will be near dungeons so there's a lot of walking to do. -------------Ashlands --------------

Getting this one is a bit tricky. You need to destroy the red crystals but to do this it requires you to get a explosive from somewhere. Go around to the south where you will find a small chamber with inert explosives and the back side of the red crystals. The nearby torch allows you to blow it open. Double back around and make your way up the ramp. You'll need the mask to see the grapple point and the chain to get across. -------------Broken Stair -------------This one is easily gotten. Simply go to where you destroyed the blue barrier with the Beholder's Key and hijacked the angelic mount. War simply left this area before but now you can go up here to retrieve the blade piece. -------------Choking Ground -------------Go to the far north towards the highway where you will find an entrance to a subterranean area near the ramp. Make your way to the upper levels, destroying everything in your path including the red crystal and ice walls. The upper levels have a golden demon and above that two phantoms so be ready as there's a lot of fighting to be had. At the top waits your treasure so grab the piece of the blade. -------------Crossroads -------------Teleport to the Crossroads and look to your right. Here you will see something on the ground in shadows so plop on the Mask to see a Shadow Current. Jump into it and land on the building near you. Hop over to the other side before leaping into the next orange Shadow Current. When you reach the top of the Current quickly equip the chain and grapple to the point here. From here you can swing to the far side on top of the hotel where the blade piece is. -------------Drowned Pass -------------To get this one, located on top of one of the buildings, you're going to need both the Mask of Shadows and Abyssal Chain. Climb to the top floor of the one building that has an intact staircase all the way up to roof level. From here put on the Mask to reveal a grapple point. With the mask still on switch to the chain and attach to the point. Jump to the building and then walk over to the anvil very carefully to reach the blade piece.

-------------The Dry Road -------------When you reach the center of the Dry Road you've got a boss fight before you. =================== Sword Hunt Boss: Uriel =================== Even though Uriel is technically a boss fight she's not that hard. If anything she's kind of like Shadow of War, a simple battle that seems more like it's just an extended version of a regular fight. The only thing you need to be careful about is Uriel's special attacks since they can take you by surprise. If she stabs her sword into the ground she will emanate electricity in a short radius around hrself. Leap over these or just stay away until she's done but be ready to charge in as this leaves her way vulnerable. The main things you need to worry about is her ranged attacks. Uriel has a few dashing type attacks that can do some damage but the projectiles are by far the most dangerous of them. The first is a pair of energy crescents she throws your way one at a time. If you keep your distance and simply walk to the side then she can't hit you with this but if it catches you by surprise it hurts. Uriel's second attack is more dangerous. This time she drops a bunch of swords from the sky, trying to skewer you repeatedly. Avoiding this is as simple as watching for the blue glow on the ground - this is where the swords land so it is where you don't want to be. The sheer number of blades falling means you're likely to take some damage but if you're lucky it won't be too much. After she does this she's usually vulnerable for a bit. Simply keep attacking her when she leaves herself open and she will go down in no time flat. =================== With her defeat you can collect the blade piece which is right out in the open. Once you have all seven pieces of the Armageddon Blade on you return to War's buddy Ulthane and have him reforge the blade. You get a cool cutscene for your troubles as well as the best sword in the game. It replaces the Chaoseater in your inventory and regardless of what level your blade was it is now a level 4

weapon. The only drawback is the lack of enhancement slot on the weapon but War can just slot enhancements onto his other weapons since effects are shared. So if you slot a "weapon damage regains health" enhancement the sword gets it too. Armageddon Blade in hand make your way back to Azrael who will teleport you to the final battle. ======================== The Final Battle: The Destroyer ======================== Defeating the Destroyer isn't that hard so long as you've spent a good bit of time gathering collectibles. With enough Life Stones, Wrath Cores and the right Weapon Enhancements he's actually pretty easy especially in the first phase of this boss battle. The second part gets a bit trickier so you may want to use the Stoneskin Wrath ability during that leg of the battle. Just be sure to equip the Death's Blessing enhacnement on the scythe and War's Glory on the Tremor Gauntlet to 100% ready for this. The Destroyer begins the battle as a dragon, running around the battlefield and trying to run you down. You will note that his hand glows before he swings at your face, dodge to the other side to get away from this attack. But this isn't getting us anywhere so climb on Ruin. Chase down the dragon, chopping at its leg as you get close to it. The Dragon will stumble to the ground where it ends up laying on its side for a bit. This is your chance to get between five to eight attacks in before retreating. After enough damage he will fly up into the air. War needs to avoid his followup attack where he smashes into the ground. To do this most effectively stay near the outside of the arena and ride in a wide circle. When he roars out that is your queue to dash. Doing it properly will take you out of range of the attack but still leave you close enough to turn around once he lands and get a sword strike against his side before he leaps up into the air again. Do this a few times before dismounting. Wait for the dragon to run at you and you will recieve a grab prompt. Activate it before War gets hit to start up a cutscene. You will need to jam on the grab button to stab the dragon, taking it right out of the sky. War follows The Destroyer down into the hole his impact leaves only to find him

in a humanoid form. This is where it gets a bit trickier but it's still not too hard to defeat him, especially for the final form of the final boss. He has a few new tricks up his sleeve to be ready for: - As you attack him he will hold his sword up to guard your attacks unless War hits him when he's totally vulnerable. If you see the white impact that tells you that the attack didn't do anything get the heck away from him. - When The Destroyer holds out his hand he is going to use his sword to send a trio of blades your way. To dodge them you need to be moving to the side and then dash. However you need to time the dash as the second blade is coming so that your slide takes you out of the way of the last two blades. If one of the blades should happen to hit you then keep on trying to dash so you dodge the next one at least to minimize damage. - Staying near him will sometimes cause him to grab for his sword, taking a double slash at your face. It's not too hard to dodge this by simply dashing to the side. A benefit of this is that it gives you time to dash in for a hit. - Should you stay too far away from him he will hold his sword, gripping it to his side, before dashing at you. This works like your dash attack so just dash to the side to avoid it before counterattacking. - After he's taken enough damage he will begin using an attack where he charges up, leaps into the air and comes down with the blade. This causes four golden blades to come out of the ground near him, lashing out at you. Just dash back once to wait it out and counterattack while he's recovering. Immediately start backing away and to the side as he will shoot the triple blade attack at you so you need to start moving. From here try to goad him into doing a move so War can dash into him, attacking him a few times. It's possible to land a whole combo on him if you're fast but then get away from him. Things go very simply until you deal enough damage to him. This prompts a combat scene between the two so mash on the attack button to win the duel. The Destroyer will fly off and levitate three rocks. Start walking to the side and when you see a rock coming your way dash to avoid it. Now start moving in the opposite direction, doing the same thing for the next two rocks. Once all of them have been thrown at you he will come back for some more melee. Dealing enough damage to him now forces another duel sequence. Defeating him at this one prompts another rock toss. When he finishes this attack he's almost

defeated. His entire attack pattern changes to teleporting around the arena and then dashing at you. Simply dodge it before laying into him. Keep this up until you get one final cutscene duel - jam on the attack button to defeat him once and for all! ======================== Congrats! You've beaten Darksiders. If you're interested in getting all of the achievements and / or trophies then it's time for an Apocalyptic playthrough. It's identical except for the fact that enemies hit harder and have a bit more health. Luckily you should have the Abyssal Armor before finishing your first playthrough so it makes it much easier. Good luck!

========================================================= 4. Boss Solutions ========================================================= Prologue Boss: "Giant Demon" ============================= Even though this guy is gigantic he's incredibly easy and quite the pushover. Simply jump to avoid this but try to stay away from him. When he lifts up the middle you can reach his face to attack but his flaming roar will damage you so it's really not worth the effort. Just hang back for now. This is where he uses his second attack - The beast will charge up a hand with

energy then slam it into the ground. =================== ============================= Seraphim Hotel Boss: Magma Demon ============================= Defeating this demon is more a matter of patience and timing. The demon has three attacks he will use depending on your distance to him: - If you're far away he will punch the ground, sending a ripple of flames your way. If you

take enough damage that you'd have to use your healing item it's best to just reload the last checkpoint and try again. ============================= ============================= Scalding Gallow Boss: Phantom General ============================= You'd think that the first real boss fight of the game would be challenging but really it isn't. After this just go back to fighting him with whatever strategy you've been using thus far and finish him off. ============================= ============================= Twilight Cathedral Sub-Boss: The Jailer ============================= The game would like you to believe that the Jailer is a boss fight but he's far too easy to actually be considered as such. His entire repertoire consists of

flailing that cage he has on his arm around or throwing out four or five undead to keep you busy. ============================= ============================= Twilight Cathedral Boss: Tiamat ============================= Finally, a boss fight in this game that is as hard as the others could've been. This will need to be done a few times to

bring her to the ground. ============================= ============================= The Hollows Boss: The Griever, Rd. 1 ============================= As tempted as you might be to do so don't pick up the cannon lying on the floor just yet. Quickly drop the laser and get to yet cannon and open fire do the most damage but see her begin to dodging until you have

another opening. Repeat this to chase her off. ============================= ============================= The Hollows Boss: The Griever, Rd. 2 ============================= Griever fights the same way she did the last time you dealt with her. =============================

============================= Ashlands Mid-Boss: Arena Brawl ============================= To start off with you will have to face a mounted warrior. This isn't actually very difficult to begin with. He only has two attacks of note - one is a basic sword slash he will attempt if you're near him while the horse is moving slowly around the arena. The other is a flaming dash that he can do where the horse suddenly rushes towards you, doing a good bit of damage. Try to keep away from him until you see the horse rear up.

By this point you should almost have enough energy to transform back into the Chaos Form so be ready to use that.

============================= ============================= Ashlands Boss: The Stygian ============================= This isn't a hard fight but it can be difficult to figure out what you need to do here. Deal it enough damage and it will either return to calling up the baby worms or chase you around again after

a bit of screeching. ============================= ============================= Iron Canopy Sub-Bosses: Armored Spiders ============================= Basically what you're trying to do is get into a rhythm of dodging their simple attacks with enough time left over so you can dash in for an attack before they start attacking again. They only have two attacks - eight claw swipes with very little range or a leap where they try to crash on top of you. The swipes are easily dodged by dashing backwards once and backpedaling away until they stop. The leap though, that's tricky. If you dodge too early they can autocorrect a bit to still land close enough to hurt you but if you dodge too late the area of effect will catch you. ============================= ============================= Iron Canopy Mid-Boss: Massive Spider ============================= This fight is one of the more infuriating ones in the game. It's very easy to

complete it without taking any damage at all but until you learn the pattern to the bosses attack you might find yourself actually dying. ============================= ============================= Iron Canopy Boss: Silithia ============================= Not for nothing this lady is fairly disturbing to listen to. The

only reliable way to do so is to move around the outside of the room, strafing to the side and dashing like mad when you see her appear above you. This will cause her to stop but don't count on it. ============================= ============================= The Black Throne Boss: Straga ============================= Hey I remember you!

This is ridiculously hard to dodge so it's best if you just create two portals on the ground to help avoid. ============================= ============================= Eden Boss: Shadow of War ============================= It seems that all the time you spent gathering souls from demons has left its mark upon your very self.

The only real note that has to be stated is that you don't want to move too far away from War since he will dash attack you if you're not careful. Just hang close but give yourself enough space to dash out of the way and then dash in with a few hits. When he changes into his Chaos Form do the same and just start swinging. He will fall very quickly, giving War a pass into the Garden. ============================= ============================= Sword Hunt Boss: Uriel ============================= Even though Uriel is technically a boss fight she's not that hard. =============================

============================= The Final Battle: The Destroyer ============================= Defeating the Destroyer isn't that hard so long as you've spent a good bit of time gathering collectibles. War follows The Destroyer down into the hole his impact leaves only to find him in a humanoid form. - When The Destroyer holds out his hand he is going to use his sword to send a

trio of blades your way. When he finishes this attack he's almost defeated. His entire attack pattern changes to teleporting around the arena and then dashing at you. Simply dodge it before laying into him. Keep this up until you get one final cutscene duel - jam on the attack button to defeat him once and for all! ============================= ========================================================= 5.
