PRIMARY SCHOOL

ASSIGNMENT (35%)

ARAHAN

1. Tugasan anda akan dinilai berdasarkan kepada keupayaan anda menghuraikan

persoalan yang diberikan dengan disokong oleh hujah-hujah dan bahan-bahan

bukti yang tepat dan releven.

2. Tugasan anda hendaklah ditaip dengan menggunakan font ”Arial” saiz 12

dilangkau baris 1.5 pada kertas bersaiz A4.

3. Tugasan anda dianggarkan sepanjang antara 15 – 17 muka surat tidak termasuk

graf, gambarajah, rujukan dan lampiran.

4. Tugasan anda hendaklah diserahkan kepada tutor sebelum / pada tutorial ke 4

(empat).

5. Tugasan ini menyumbang sebanyak 35% kepada gred akhir kursus.

6. Plagiarisme dalam apa jua bentuk adalah dilarang sama sekali. Pelajar yang

menyerahkan tugasan yang diplagiatkan akan dikenakan tindakan tatatertib.


SOALAN TUGASAN

I. Mengklasifikasi organisma membantu menyusun pengetahuan berkaitan ciri-ciri


khas yang dimiliki tumbuhan dan haiwan.

(a) Bincangkan kepentingan klasifikasi bagi pelajar dalam kelas sains.


(2 markah)

(b) Terangkan secara mendalam apa yang membentuk kingdom dalam


klasifikasi organisma.
(4 markah)

(c) Berdasarkan kefahaman taksonomi dan tinjauan literatur, isikan jadual


berikut:

II. Salah satu kaedah untuk mengklasifikasi tumbuhan adalah dengan menentukan
samada tumbuhan itu bervaskular atau tidak.

(a) Huraikan satu eksperimen yang anda akan gunakan dengan pelajar untuk
menentukan tumbuhan bervaskular dan bukan bervaskular. Kenalpasti
bahan yang diperlukan serta langkah-langkah yang terlibat dalam
mengendalikan eksperimen ini. Nyatakan kesimpulan yang dapat dibentuk
menerusi eksperimen ini.

(b) Jalankan eksperimen ini dengan pelajar sekolah rendah anda. Ringkaskan
kefahaman pelajar berkaitan tumbuhan bervaskular dan bukan
bervaskular.

III. Tumbuhan sering menunjukkan tindakbalas terhadap rangsangan luaran daripada


arah tertentu dengan pergerakan yang melibatkan pertumbuhan.

(a) Terangkan apa yang dimaksudkan sebagai fototropisma.

(b) Anda ingin menjalankan satu demonstrasi untuk menjelaskan


fototropisma kepada pelajar Tahun 3 sekolah rendah. Huraikan prosedur
yang terlibat dalam demonstrasi itu dan sertakan gambarajah yang sesuai
yang terlibat.

I. Classifying organisms helps in organising knowledge about the specifics of


animals and plants.

(a) Discuss the importance of classification for students in the science


classroom.

(b) Explain in detail what constitutes the kingdom in the classification of


organisms.
(4 marks)
(c) Based on the understanding of taxonomy and based on literature review,
complete the following table:

II. One method of classifying plants is by identifying whether they are vascular or
non-vascular.

(a) Describe an experiment that you will use with your students to identify
vascular plants from non-vascular plants. You should include the
materials needed and the procedure involved in conducting the
experiment. What conclusion can be drawn from the experiment using
different plants of your choice.

(b) Carry out this experiment with your primary school students. Summarise
students’ understanding of vascular and non-vascular plants.
(4 marks)

III. Plants often respond to external stimuli acting from given directions by
movements which involves growth.

(a) Explain what is meants by ‘phototropism’


(3 marks)

(b) You wish to demonstrate phototropism to your Year 3 primary school


students. Describe the procedure involved in the demonstration and
include appropriate diagrams in the procedure.

Notes for students:

Question I

(a) To answer this question you need to read materials on classification used in the
biological environment. The module may provide some assistance but it is recommended
that you refer to other resources to have a thorough understanding of classification.

(b) To answer this question you will have to refer to books on biology. You should
provide five various kingdoms found in classifications of organisms.

(c) Refer to biology books as well as articles on classification that you can obtain
from internet search. You should provide very specific one-word answer to fill in the
blanks.

Question II

(a) First you will have to identify a suitable experiment that you can use with your
primary school students. The level of difficulty of the experiment must be suitable to
your students’ ability.
Remember to identify the materials including apparatus and suitable plants as
well as appropriate chemicals needed to conduct the experiment.
You should also list out the procedures involved in conducting the experiment.
Remember also to provide for a conclusion that can be drawn from the
experiment.

(b) It is suggested that you get students’ feedback on vascular and non-vascular plants
by getting them to say out their understanding after showing the results of the experiment
from at least 5-8 students. Record their view in the table below and then write a short
reflection of their understanding.

Question III

(a) Read your module to summarise the meaning of phototropism. You could also
refer to other relevant references. Write your answer in a short paragraph.
(b) Remember to identify an experiment that is suitable to students’ ability level.
Write down the steps involved in conducting the experiment and support your
description with relevant diagrams clearly drawn.
