ABSTRACT
This article discusses the issue of Islamofobia in Australia since arrival of the first
Muslims who established settlements as cameleers until now. The results of the
study concluded several things. In Australia since the turn of the millennium,
discrimination against Muslims has increased. Since its first arrival, Muslims
brought by the cameleers have experienced discriminatory and confrontational
acts. Until now racism and discrimination against Muslims has continued. This
attitude is caused by several factors, including the existence of a closed view of
Islam (closed views) that Islamic values cannot be integrated with Western values
and Australian culture, historical factors, rise anti-Muslim communities and
excessive generalization of the existence of Muslim communities in Australia. This
was compounded by the circulation of news in the mass media on international
issues, seen as part of "endangering" the survival of white communities in
Australia dominated by Anglo-Saxon culture. This condition has an impact on the
difficulty of Muslims in Australia to be able to live developing in terms of social,
work, education, politics and culture. But this was responded to cooperatively by
Australian Muslims. In addition, efforts to advance Muslims continue to be
intensified by the existence of Muslim organizations fighting for the same rights as
the Australian Federation of Islamic Societies (AFIS) to fight for the rights and
advance of Australian Muslims.
