Slide 1 (The Solar System): Abdallah
Introduction Slide 2 (Summary): Yussef What we are going to present Slide 3 (What is the Solar System?): Abdallah Our Solar System is a collection of celestial bodies that orbit around our sun. These bodies are Asteroids, Comets and Planets. And around these Planets rotate the Moons and even Asteroids. There are millions of other Solar Systems, but ours is unique because to our knowledge it is the only Solar System inhabiting an intelligent life form. Slide 4 (The Sun): Yussef Our sun is only one of billions of yellow dwarfs that are out there in the universe. Its diameter is about 14 million km and it volume could easily fit millions of earths. The suns temperature varies from 5.5 million degrees on the surface to 15 million degrees in the core. Its gravitational pull makes the Planets, Comets and Asteroids orbit the sun. The speed with which they travel is proportional to the amount of gravitation they experience, which depends on how far they are away from the sun. The sun also provides light and warmth needed for survival on earth. Without the sun, the earth would drift through space aimlessly and frozen without the humans who would be extinct. Slide 5 (The Moon): Abdallah The Moon is a natural satellite circling the earth every 27.5 days at a distance of 385,000 km. Its diameter is about 3,500 km and ist rotation is caused by the earths gravitation. Unlike other Planets, the earth only has one Moon.
Slide 6 (The Lunar Phases): Yussef
The Moon has different phases we call the lunar phases. In this process the Moon seems to be changing its size. This is caused by the rotation around the earth and the amount of light passing the earth being able to be reflected by the Moon. It then seems like one part of the Moon is missing when it is just not being lighted. Apart from looking spectacular in the night sky, the Moon has another value to human life: It creates tides and lows with its gravitation and its orbit marks one month on the gregorian calendar. Slide 7 (Asteroids nad Comets): Abdallah [Asteroids are rocky objects that orbit the sun just like the planets. The difference is, that they are much smaller. When Asteroids enter the earths surface they are called meteorites. Mostly, they catch fire and burn up before hitting the ground. Large numbers of Asteroids circling the sun together create Asteroid belts. Asteroids also orbit planets such as Saturn. Comets are Large clumps of ice gas or rock that orbit the sun in a ellipse. The amount of how oval it is, is called eccentricity.{Explain orbit}] Slide 8 (The Planets): Yussef [Planets are celestial objects that orbit around stars in a circle-like orbit. In our solar system the eight major planets circle the sun. We differ between the inner and outer planets. The inner planets are made of rock, are much smaller than the outer planets and travel with much higher speed. Because they are not that big, their gravitational pull is not that big either, so the only one of them having a moon is the earth. The outer planets are made of gas and are thousand times bigger than the inner planets. They attract a lot of moons and asteroids because of their mass and because they are farther away from the sun, the gravitation of the sun doesn't act that much causing them to travel at slower speeds. The speed of planets can be calculated with the formula "average speed=total distance/total time taken". The distance of the orbit can be measured with the formula "2πr" whereby r is the radius to the sun.]
