According to [a] survey, only 67% usually inquire about ADHD but only 6% have reported it to have actually treated it ( Lynn Olson, 1) In my opinion, this helps to prove how often pediatricians may just diagnose the child with the disorder, but because they werent sure about the diagnostic, decided against giving the proper medication needed.

II. Medications for ADHD include Stimulants, Antidepressants, and Straterra (Havard letter, A. These drug, are known for being EXTREMELY addictive and its very easy to do so. Teenagers often look to these drugs for help with focusing in class or maybe to help with anxiety problems, which are very common. I. Emotionally, they often have poor self -esteem and are at considerably increased risk for depression, anxiety , and/or delinquent behavior. ( Klassen, Anne F., Anton Miller, and Stuart Fine,2) I. The stimulants used to treat ADHD have some potential for abuse, because crushing pills and snorting them can produce a cocaine-like high(Havard letter,6) A. ADHD is one of the most freuently diagnosed childhood disorders in the U.S( Aguiar, Andrea, Paul and Susan,1) II. 40% of preschoolers show symptoms of ADHD while others just have temporary behavioral symptoms ( Smith,Katherine G., and Penny Corkum,2) III. There is a very thin line between ADHD and just being an average child which causes a lot of controversy among parents and pediatricians.

IV.The abuse is being kindled by the increasing avaliability of these ADHD stimulant medications (Setlik, Jenifer, G.Randall Bond, and Mona Ho,5) V. There is no actual fact as to why these drugs are becoming so much more popular but I believe some pediatricians are just not diagnosing it properly or labeling the child with ADHD carelessly. B. ADHD in preschoolers needs to be assessed carefully (Smith, Katherine G. , and Penny Corkum,1) I. Because of lack of age appropriate measures for children in preschool, this makes ADHD very hard to diagnose ( Smith, Katherine G., and Penny Corkum,8) II. It is also stated that ADHD is hard to diagnose, because children lack the symptoms or they cannot tell if it is truly ADHD . Children are very active, but that is a very common trait of ADHD. III. Studies have show they even may have linked to nutrition and not eating as you should when taking the drugs. D. Teenage victims of ADHD medication abuse has rose to 76% in around 1998. After around 8 years, the abuse increased to over 80% (Setlik, Jenifer, G.RAndall Bond, and Mona Ho,2) Thesis: Because of the rise in deaths of teenagers, I believe ADHD is being carelessly diagnosed .
