incrementally as the number of subscribers increase. From small systems serving several hundred subscribers to larger systems serving many thousands, GNS has a product that will suit your needs. The Service Area (cell) can be any distance from the Central Offices as defined by the location of the Base Station System and tower. To cover a larger area, a fixed cellular approach with frequency reuse can be employed. Our Wireless Local Loop systems can be interfaced with any telecom medium including copper wire, coaxial cable, fiber optics or microwave links. In areas where access to the Public Telephone Network is limited to satellite or cellular service, the systems can be interfaced with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) or Geostationary Satellite systems, terrestrial cellular or personal communications service. The main components of the Wireless Local Loop System include the Switching Platform (SP) located in the Central Office, the Base Station System (BSS) and the Subscriber equipment.

The Base Station Controller (BSC) is a compact base station controller that aggregates and manages the communications between the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and the central GSM switching center or local GSM switch (MSC). The wall-mountable BSC connects to any main GSM switching center supporting the GSM standard. The BSC can be configured with up to 16 communications ports depending on the requirements of the network. The BTS is a base station which can accommodate up to three TRX radios. The BTS is available in all three GSM frequency bands: 900 MHZ and 1800 MHZ for Europe and Asia, and 1900 MHZ for the Americas. The BTS connects the mobile user to the network with no need for additional components.
L-3 Communications - Global Network Solutions (GNS) Wireless Local Loop products address wireless communication requirements at a fraction of the price of the current commonly installed cellular infrastructure. Our integrated system delivers a full GSM network in a compact enclosure and offers the lowest entry price to start a GSM network. It is the ideal solution for small capacity networks or network extensions. In addition to providing the most cost-efficient GSM starter network, our highly scalable system allows wireless service providers to match their infrastructure expenditures to the growth of subscriber usage. It is easy to scale from a single, compact network serving hundreds of subscribers to a network requiring multiple MSC, BSC, and BTS serving thousands of subscribers. The system can support a completely stand-alone GSM network and integrate with existing wireline and wireless network infrastructures or can be deployed as part of an extension of an existing Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN). Its usage has ranged from remote small coverage areas often with satellite backhaul to enterprise private GSM networks integrating with private PBXs.
Robust GSM technology delivers high-quality voice, privacy and spectrum efficiency Installed in the most challenging and adverse environments Affordable for rural areas Allows a pay-as-you-go strategy Delivers multiple tariff options for carriers Seamless integration with existing public or private networks Rapid installation results in faster revenue generation from new subscribers Frequency agility allows each radio channel to be placed anywhere in the GSM bands (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz) Advanced technology allows future expansion for value-added services

The Switching Platform (SP) is a standard GSM Mobile Switching Center (MSC) with a built-in Visitor Location Register (VLR)/ Home Location Register (HLR). L-3's SP is extremely easy to operate and maintain and it performs standard MSC functions such as call processing, supplementary services, and mobility functions/interfaces. It is ideally suited for the lower density/lower capacity GSM networks where local switching can greatly reduce remote transmission costs. As part of a GSM network, the SP can be seamlessly integrated with an existing Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) network, another Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) network, or simply as an extension of an existing PLMN network. It can be configured as a Base Station Controller (BSC) extension of a central MSC or as a local MSC on a call-by-call basis.
