his Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium Unit (Model: BP 16) is a bench top unit designed for students to investigate the relationship between vapor and liquid at equilibrium for any binary system as well as for multicomponent system. Students may run the unit at atmospheric pressure (i.e. 0 bar (g)) or at an elevated pressure. EXPERIMENTAL CAPABILITIES The vapor-liquid relationship at equilibrium for binary system and multi-component system at atmospheric pressure as well as at an elevated pressure. The effect of initial mixture composition upon the boiling temperature and vapour liquid phase compositions. Determination of minimum boiling point of a binary mixture. The effect of adding non-volatile salt on the phase compositions. Vapor pressure curve at high pressure.
The unit consists of mainly a stainless steel evaporator fitted with electrical heater and electronic sensors for the measurement of pressure and temperatures of liquid and vapour. A stainless steel coil type heat exchanger is attached at the top of the evaporator. Digital displays are provided for students to monitor the temperature and pressure of the vapour in the vessel. A temperature controller is also provided for the purpose of setting and adjusting the equilibrium temperature. The unit comes with a pressure relief valve for safety purposes. The unit is also well insulated in order to minimize heat losses. Feed port and sampling ports for both liquid and vapour are also provided.
