When Monkman’s psychiatric nursing background failed to see her through a tough time in her life, she found

peace in holistic healing, which led her to open The Heart Space. McCallie spent her days working construction

until her health began to suffer and she came down with pneumonia. To combat the illness, she gave herself
body treatments; when a friend commented on her obvious talent, McCallie left dry wall behind and enrolled
in aesthetician school at Carsten Institute. Five months later, she created Tourmaline Skin Spa. Although not
summoned for these positions in luxury health care from the beginning, Monkman and McCallie have found their
calling and it just so happens that their businesses complement each other (location included) perfectly.

Monkman’s holistic healing center is one of the only spots in Arizona to practice the

of pre- and perinatal and infant work,” Monkman adds, whose Myofascial Unwinding treatment
can help babies recover from the “trauma they experience during birth.”
The Heart Space also offers Reiki, balancing energy therapy to relieve stress and tension

treatment of the head and spine to ease migraine headaches, vertigo and whiplash.
Those in need of detoxification will benefit from the SENSA Infrared Massage Table with rolling flig
jade balls that allow heat and light to penetrate deep into the body, stimulating tissue healing.
Even the less adventurous can indulge: choose from a classic spa menu of Swedish, Aromatherapy,
Deep Tissue and Sports massages. all
The center’s highlights include the Mini-Intensives, weeklong programs utilizing two to four Myofascial sessions a day and integrating relaxing
massages. While some treatments can be emotional and intense, The Heart Space is a comfortable spot with a living room feel, including
overstuffed denim chairs and a boutique filled with handcrafted goodies, all under $30. “People are surprised by the environment,” says

Monkman. “They’re used to something more clinical [for these types of treatments].”
