Product Data: Submit manufacturers literature including general assembly, pump curves showing performance characteristics with pump and system, operating point indicated, NPSH curve, controls, wiring diagrams, and service connections. Field Test Reports: Indicate results of hydrostatic test and field acceptance tests. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Submit support details, connection requirements, for fire pump system. Manufacturer's Certificate: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.

PRE-INSTALLATION MEETING A. B. Administrative Requirements: Pre-installation meeting. Convene minimum one week prior to commencing Work of this section.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. B. C. D. Product Requirements: Product storage and handling requirements. Accept fire pumps and components on site in factory packing. Inspect for damage. Comply with manufacturers rigging and installation instructions. Protect fire pumps and components from physical damage including effects of weather, water, and construction debris. Furnish temporary, inlet and outlet caps and maintain in place until installation.

VERTICAL IN-LINE PUMPS A. B. C. D. E. Type: UL 448 and UL 778, vertical, single stage, close coupled, radial or horizontally split casing, for in-line mounting, for 250 psi (1 720 kPa). Casting: Cast or ductile iron, with suction and discharge gage port, casing wear ring, seal flush connection, drain plug, flanged suction and discharge. Impeller: Bronze, fully enclosed, keyed directly to motor shaft. Shaft: Solid alloy steel with bronze sleeve. Seal: Packing gland with minimum four rings graphite impregnated packing and bronze lantern rings, 230 degrees F (110 degrees C) maximum continuous operating temperature. Seal: Carbon rotating against stationary ceramic seat Viton fitted, 225 degrees F (107 degrees C maximum continuous operating temperature.

Impeller: Bronze double suction fully enclosed, balanced and keyed to shaft. Bearings: Grease lubricated ball bearings, replaceable without opening casing. Shaft: Alloy steel with replaceable bronze shaft sleeve. Casing: Cast iron, rated for 250 psi (1 720 kPa) or 1.20 times actual discharge working pressure discharge gage, air vent, wear rings, seal flush connection, drain plug, and flanged discharge. Impellers: Bronze, fully enclosed, keyed to shaft or secured with lock nut. Shaft: Stainless steel or carbon steel with bronze or stainless steel sleeve through seal chamber. Seals: Packing gland with minimum four rings graphite impregnated packing and bronze lantern rings.

Controller: Limited service type with auto-transformer, primary resistor, reduced voltage, part winding or across-the-line starter, in NEMA 250 enclosure, including the following: 1. Disconnect Switch: Externally operable, quick break type. 2. Circuit Breaker: Size to NFPA 20, minimum 65,000 amperes interrupting capacity. 3. Motor Starter: Energized automatically through pressure switch or manually by externally operable handle. 4. Running Period Timer: Keeps motor in operation when started automatically, for minimum of seven minutes. 5. Pilot Lamp: Indicates circuit breaker closed and power available. 6. Test Accessories: Ammeter test link and voltmeter test studs. 7. Alarm Relay: Energizes alarm to indicate circuit breaker open or power failure. 8. Switch Relay: For remote start. 9. Manual Selector Station: On enclosure marked "Automatic" and "NonAutomatic."

DIESEL ENGINE DRIVE A. Diesel Engine: Conform to NFPA 1247, arranged for automatic operation and include overspeed /overcrank switch and drive, two contactor switches, low oil pressure and high water temperature warning switches, and fuel shut-off solenoid, with wiring terminating in junction box. Include following engine accessories: 1. Stub shaft. 2. Oil bath air cleaner. 3. Water-cooled exhaust manifold. 4. Heat exchanger. 5. Mechanical speed governor. 6. Fuel filter. 7. Lube oil filter and by-pass valve. 8. Lube oil cooler and relief valve. 9. Fuel pump. 10. Instrument panel with tachometer, hour meter, oil pressure gauge, watertemperature gauge, ammeter, hand speed control and start switch. 11. Starting system including generator/alternator, starting-motor and voltage regulator. 12. Exhaust silencer, residential type. Cooling water system: Closed system with cooling water supply to heat exchanger from fire pump discharge. Include four (4) manual shut-off valves (including by-pass line), two strainers, pressure regulating valve, automatic solenoid valve and pressure gauge. Storage batteries: Dual lead acid batteries with cables and battery racks. Fuel system: above ground storage tank, fill pipe and cap, manual shut-off valve, flamearrestor, oil level gauge, braided bronze flexible connectors, seamless type L copper tubing with flared joints. Fill tank at completion.

Automatic diesel engine controller: Enclosed in floor mounted steel housing, UL listed and labeled. 1. Controller: Function to automatically start fire pump from water pressure control switch or test switch. 2. Stop push button: To manually stop engine. 3. Automatic conditions: Controller alternates batteries automatically on each 15 second cranking cycle. Alarm when engine not started after six attempts. 4. Battery charger: Dual, built-in, to recharge batteries within 24-hour period, with automatic overload protection (current limiting), individual voltmeters and ammeters for each battery. 5. Disconnect Switch: Factory mount in control panel on equipment. EXECUTION INSTALLATION A. B. C. D. Install Fire Pump in accordance with NFPA 20 and Diesel Engine Drive in accordance with NFPA 37 Install Work in accordance with State Municipality of Highways standards. Install pumps with space for service access; no less than minimum recommended by manufacturer. Install fire suppression piping in accordance with Section 13910. Decrease from line size with long radius reducing elbows or reducers. Support piping adjacent to pump independently from pump casing. For base mounted pumps, install supports under elbows on pump suction and discharge. Install drains for bases and seals. Install piping to and discharging into floor drains. Install pump on vibration isolators. Refer to Section 15070. Install piping for fuel supply and return. Connect to motor. Install piping to and from exhaust silencer with thimble at wall or roof penetrations. Refer to Section 15190. Insulate piping associated with pump, pump casing and exhaust silencer. Refer to Section 15105 and Section 15130. Connect to electrical service. Refer to Section 16150. Lubricate pumps before start-up. Check, align, and certify base mounted pumps by qualified millwright prior to start-up.
