The Master of Science programme offered by the I School of Architecture is rooted in a polytechnic tradition, bridging urban design, regional studies and social sciences. The programme aims at developing a wide education in planning and policy making. The courses are given at the Campus Leonardo. Course activities of the Master of Science in Urban Planning and Policy Design are organized along four semesters. The first semester aims to set a common frame of reference for students coming from different disciplines through a range of various learning experiences. From the second semester onwards, the students face several courses according to urban design oriented and urban policy oriented options. The programme features distinctive laboratories dedicated to the preparation of a project. Qualified internships and work experience in public agencies or professional offices are also offered. Among the Full Professors of the programme: Pier Carlo Palermo (Dean of the School of Architecture and Society), Alessandro Balducci (former President of AESOP, the Association of European Schools of Planning), Bruno Dente, Patrizia Gabellini (Head of the Department of Architecture and Planning), Costanzo Ranci, Antonio Tosi. In 2004 Giancarlo de Carlo and Nuno Portas were awarded with an Honorary Degree. Qualified research staff and PhD students with significant international and professional experiences are involved in the tutorship and teaching activity. The School has rich libraries, the Architecture and Planning Department library being specialized in Urban Planning.

The aim of the programme is to train professionals who can deal with the multiple and complex issues of the contemporary policy agenda for cities and regions. Students graduated in our M.Sc. are currently working for Local Governments, research institutes, private firms in the real estate and advising market, in Italy and abroad. The Master of Science is addressing to candidates holding a Bachelor Degree in one of the many subjects related to the Programme: urban planning, architecture, engineering, sociology and social sciences, geography, economy, political sciences, and environmental sciences. For EU students regular fees are based on students family income and range from about 800 to 3,300 per year. For Non-EU students regular fees are 3,300 per year. Students obtaining a scholarship will have to pay only an administrative tuition fee of about 150.
