How do you think it could be improved? It is honest there are many problems in our city to solve. The fist thing is transport. We have to reduce the traffic jams and road accidents. Secondly, it is the accommodation. The authority have been doing many things to improve this circumstance such as encourage people to use public transport, expand roads and construct new buildings for poor people est. Do you think it is better to live in the center of town or outside in the country? Why? I suppose both living in a big city or in a quiet countryside have their advantages. In my view, city is more suitable for young generation who need challenges and chances to apply for good jobs. Actually, the historic buildings and monuments are

important to our city because through them we can see what our forefather had suffered or glorious victories of our country and can proud of it. Is it better to keep old buildings, or build new modern ones? It is honest. We have to balance the reservation of old buildings and construction of new modern ones. We have to evaluate the culture value of these old building to have precise decisions to reserve or to destroy it. Besides, we also have city plans to which we have to obey. By Diep SPEAKING (16) Places, to go in your free time Speaking Module Part 1 What do people do in your town in their free time? Actually the life in Ha Noi is hurry and busy, so we don't have much time for leisure activities. In short free time during the working day people usually reading newspaper or magazines. In the evening they watch television and at weekend they sometime go out.

Where can they go out for entertainment, or to enjoy themselves? In holidays, some people usually go to the cinemas or theatres to enjoy the atmosphere of these common places. Others prefer going out to somewhere together. Our young people always like something being excited such as karaoke or dance floors. Which do you prefer: eating in restaurants or eating at home? Truthfully in some cases I feel that eating in restaurants is more convenient and more comfortable. But above all, I prefer eating at home. At the meal, the whole family gets together and I feel the warm and safe atmosphere. No other places give me these feelings. In addition, eating at home is one of our tradition and custom. Which are the best places to eat out? Sometime in special case, my family eats out in restaurant named "Delicious eats" on Phan Boi Chau Street. There are many kinds of typical meals of different regions in my country. It is complex of mini restaurants, so we can find there the best things For example we can eat the best Bun Cha in Ha Noi or variety of Hue cakes in this place. Beautiful places Speaking Module Part 2 Describe a beautiful place to visit in your country (where it is, how to get there, what there is to do, when you are there, and explain why you recommend this place). Last year in the summer holidays, my family went to the Phong Nha cave in Quang Binh province. It is located in the middle of our country. The Phong Nha cave is recognized as world cultural heritage by UNESCO with eight hundred meters long. We can go into the cave by boat. At the beginning, we cruise along river Don about thirty minutes to reach the entrance to the cave. Then, we have to row by

hand into cave because the motorboat is banned there. It is implemented in order to avoid pollution for the cave. When we go in, on the ceiling of the cave, we can see the stalactites with various figures. There is a form of lion in the near door. When you go more far, the form of Bodhisattva appears. It is wonderful indeed. There are also the sands and it is said that this place is resort of fairies every night. In the main cave, it is large square, where were place to our soldiers live in the war time. We can see many forms of stalactites in this place today. One of them is particular complex of two pillars being the symbol of endless love. As I know, the cave connects to the river of Laos, but we are not permitted to go far due to its dangers. I was enjoying this cave very much when I was there last year. If you want to get there you can go by bus or train to Dong Hoi station and then transfer to bus to the cave. It is value to visit. Advertising Speaking Module Part 3 Some people think advertising can be dangerous. Would you agree or disagree with that? Every thing has its own advantages as well as disadvantages, and advertising isn't an exception. On the one hand, advertisements help companies to introduce and spread their goods to customers. On the other hand, they disturb us very much or sometime they say incorrectly about their products. It is dangerous if you buy it. Do you think government should use law to protect people from advertising? On my opinion, we have the law of advertisement and if we implement it precisely, it would be no problem. The government should control more about content of adverts to protect people from lie and ban the leaflets which do not have permission. How will people be able to resist advertising in the future? Actually, I am not matter much with adverts. When they appear on certain program, I just transfer to others because there are many channels today that we can choose freely. On the roads, I usually go on straight ahead without mention on anything, so leaflets do not influence on me at all. I think people can do as me. Well, lets consider the values of our society. What effect does advertising have on our values, do you think? On my opinion, our value of certain thing not depends on ads at all. People always evaluate something by their experiences gained by using it. Occasionally, some people have trend to buy that many others buy, but then quickly recognize the real value of it. Some people think that adverts give people unrealistic expectations would you agree? I partly agree with this opinion because sometime advertisers overstate about their products and you

might buy them with despair. In contrast, they could introduce us something new that you much care about. In this case, the ads are useful. What do you think about the way advertisers target children? Well, I suppose our children are too young to differentiate what being true and what being false. So the way advertisers target children bring them benefit, but it may be harmful for our babies. For example, our kid may not eat breakfast to give money to purchase something they see on advert. It is dangerous. By Diep

Many transport companies are created supporting people needs. The main public transport in our city is bus with different routes. Every route has its special number, for example the bus route from Hoan Kiem Lake to My Dinh stadium is number thirty two. You can find out it in the roadmap of Ha Noi city. However, our buses are usually overweight because of the large number of passengers and the quantity lack of buses. How do you think it could be improved? Definitely, yes, the authority manages to improve the circumstance by permitting some new companies supporting this service. Beside that the government invests more in infrastructure, especially in roads. The problem will be solved. Do you think people should use public transport more? Why (not)? Yes, I think so. In our country, people are religious and it is our custom to

visit pagoda on the days of New Year to hope that we would be happy in the life. I can say that the Pagoda Huong is most major festival in Buddhism. So people from different regions in country come here to participate in this festival. The Pagoda Huong located in Ha Tay province, about forty kilometers from Ha Noi. It is complex of many small pagodas and caves. To reach to main pagoda Thien Tru we have to cruise along Yen stream about thirty minutes. On the cruising we can look at amazing scene of mountains rounded by stream and hear the songs of people. It seems make the row shorten. After going out from Thien Tru, the religious people have to climb to main cave "Huong Tich" on the top of the mountain. It took us about two hours. It is challenge to normal people, but for the religious it is easy to overcome. In the main cave the atmosphere is very religious and people pray to Bodhisattva for luck, wealth and happiness. It is said that if you have came here for nine years continuously, you will be lucky for ever. I and my mother came to Pagoda Huong three times, so we have to come here six times more to gain this target. I enjoy this place because not only of religious but because of its scene. When you stand on the top of the mountain you can have the overall view of large region of my country. It is wonderful indeed.

Just need a click, I can find almost everything on the internet to support me in learning all skills. The internet is an amazing invention of people! These high-tech equipments provide better conditions for learners than the single ones, because they provide comprehensive ways of learning for all learners. This is a series of cases in which the detective Sherlock gained the achievements by using logical reasoning. With only routine facts that nobody had noticed, he could give surprising judgments. It is admired. What are the advantages of reading instead of watching television or going to the cinema? On my opinion, everything has its advantages as well as disadvantages. For example when we watch TV or go to the cinema, we can see the activities of actors but not their thoughts. We don't know exactly what they are thinking about. However, reading can do it for you. In addition, reading can help you reduce stress caused by noise and advertisements. New technology Speaking Module Part 2 Describe the different types of technology you use to help you learn English (the most simple and the most up-to-date technology, the changes in technology you have seen, the most useful pieces of technology, the technology you like best and why ?) Of course I couldnt understand all the radio news but it created a good Sound reflex and it has helped me so much to improve my listening skill. We had a happy day with my parents. What do you do as a family for special occasions like weddings or feasts? On the special occasions such as my son's birthday, my large family gathers to our home. There are my parents, my sister's family, my brother's family and mines. I usually feast them with traditional meals for dinner. I like cake very much so I buy a big cake. After the dinner, all of adults have a tea with cake and listen to music, but our children watch cartoons. Sometime we sing with karaoke. Is there a member of your family you are especially close to? Why? To be honest, in my family I am especially close to my sister. She is three years older than me. I always talk to her about obstacles which I have to deal with and receive the good advice. My sister is who I can share everything and I can say that we always understand each other. A film Speaking Module Part 2 Describe a film you've seen recently (what happened in the film, whether you enjoyed it, and you should say why you choose to talk about this film). Does your country have a flourishing

film industry? The film I have seen recently is Chinese film "Two Dragon association". In the Orient, Dragon is symbol of King, so the name of film means "two King association". Follow the film, this story was happened on the famous King Can Long period. The Can Long period was the most prosperous in Chinese history. It is showed that there was a doctor who was like the King so much and the King found him as a substitute for him own. Thus story went on very funny with two Kings. They together went out from palace to find out the cases which concerned to high ranking mandarins (officials). Of course, finally the ringleaders such as the corrupt officials or the killers were punished and the victims were rescued. One thing I enjoy there is that the strict punishment were applied to everyone who committed a crime but did not mention on their rank in the society. The other reason is that the actors playing roles of two Kings were very famous and they played so well indeed. That is the reasons why I chose this film to describe. In Vietnam, our film industry is not flourishing at all because of many reasons. Firstly, we have many films but not good films. I think we don't have the good scenarios and the budget is limited or may be our producers are low qualified. Secondly, our youth are in inclination to imported film rather than domestic. Some boys said to me that they like something excited but our film are always very sad. Nowadays, the producers are managing to put the new wind into our film and I hope in the future Vietnam film industry will be flourishing.

SPEAKING (20)

Part One
1. Are computers an important part of your life? Why? Definitely, yes, they are. Today, computer plays vital role in our life because of its enormous benefits. Firstly, it helps us reduce hand works by using convenience software with unimaginable speed. Secondly, through it we can access to the internet to gain many necessary materials over the world. Finally, it helps us to communicate easier and more quickly, thus the distances are not significant. 2. Would you say that you are a person who enjoys new technology? Yes, I am. I am a curious one. When something new appears, I immediately want to purchase and learn to use it. (of course if I have money enough). For example, at home I have the high-speed internet, the cable TV, DVD player and high-tech households such as washing machine, microwave, fridge and automatic door, air-conditioner 3. Is new technology important in your professional field? In what way, why? Yes, certainly. In my work place, we have many things using new technology. I can give you some examples: beside the computers bring us enormous benefits as I said, the photocopier can do a hundred reproductions per minute that people can't and the fax is so useful to communicate with formal documents, the projector help you to report back easier

more significant. We have helped many people overcome the difficulties in their life to integrate with community. I am very happy as our activities have been supported by everybody in area. Do you think of yourself as generally a person who enjoys life? Why? I can say that I am optimistic person. There are plenty of difficulties in the life, but in any case I always manage to find a way to overcome, and implicitly trust to find out it. I hope that the peace will dominate the world and people hand in hand go straight to the future.

Part Three Families

Describe some of the factors which make one family happy and another unhappy? The fist factor I want to say is babies. When you have dutiful (obedient) children you will be the happiest person in the world, in contrast your life seems to be in the hell. Another factor is money. Money can help many families overcome difficulties in the life, but also is cause of conflict between members in family when they share the treasure. In addition, the important thing is the sympathy between wife and husband. It makes family always happy. Do you think that it is essentially the same thing that makes all people happy? (What about children). No, I don't think so. It is not the same thing at all. It depends on viewpoint of everyone. Some people adore the money, so when they have much money they feel happy. Whereas others don't need money, but need something else such as children for example. The children are always our most valuable treasure, but the corrupt boys are the unhappiness of their parent.

Part Two
describe an event or activity that has made you happy (what this event or activity is, how often you have participated in this event or activity, whether you would do it more often if you could and why, and explain how your life has been enriched by this event or activity). There is in our area a woman association that I take part in. Our main activity is supporting our children and raising money for charity. There are eleven people in my group. We are various ages from thirty to sixty, but we have the same interest in poor people. At the weekends, once per month we organize the charity concert, which draws many people. The people contribute to our concert are volunteer singers, musicians and the audiences living in our area. They come here to share the unhappiness with victims of the thunderstorms, earthquakes and other nature catastrophe. Sometimes we do whipround for disaster victims. We go by houses to call the charity from everyone and it seems that this way is more effective because it saves time for many people. Since I joined in this activity, my life seems to be

Economics
Assess the importance of wealth in determining a persons happiness? I hold the opinion that the happiness depends not very much on the wealth. Commonly, people only need money sufficient for life, and they need also other things to make their happiness such as babies, friends, relations, job and many others. Can people in developing countries be as happy as people in developed countries? Definitely, yes, they can. There are many factors play roles in making happiness, but not the wealth. In the developed countries, people live in the best conditions but they cannot live in the harmony family with grandparent, parent and babies surrounded. In this case I cannot say who is happier. Even I don't know whether citizen is happier than farmer! By Diep

SPEAKING(21) Part One 1. How did you get here today? I usually go by bus to my office, but today I came here by motorbike in order to avoid traffic jam. 2. Is this how you usually travel? Why or why not? I with my family usually travel in summer. On summer holidays, my son is out of school, we go to Cua Lo resort, where we can take the sun and swim all day. I like to go here because it is my husband's countryside, so we can both relax and visit our parent and relations. Besides, the beach of Cua Lo is good, foods are cheap and accommodation is not bad, and it is suitable for my budget. So I think I can travel to Cua Lo every year. 3. Has travel been an important part of your life so far? In what way? Travel brings us many benefits. The work pressure can make you nervously and the holidays will help you to reduce stress. Moreover, through a travel we can have new friends; we can understand further variety of customs and the native behaviors over the world. It makes people friendlier. If you take the ecology tour, you will feel closer with the nature, the wild life. Then you recognize that human is only small part of nature, and we can not destroy it. Part 2 Describe a job that you think would be ideal for you (what this job is, what qualities or pre-conditions people usually have to get this kind of job?, why you think this job would be ideal for you, and explain why it is likely or unlikely that you will have a job like this in the future, how important do you think it is to have a job that you enjoy?) I am biochemist. I am researching biotechnology. I have been doing this work for five years. Before, I did analyses of human blood parameters and did some epidemical surveys on children in countryside. Five years ago, I did my master dissertation at the Institute of Biotechnology. My tutor is famous scientist in enzyme field and suggested me to do thesis on this area. After that I am attracted in this problem and decided to choose this work. My objects are microorganism enzymes. I have to culture bacteria from which we can extract the essential enzymes and create the recombination ones that are based on bacterial genome. These products will be useful with medicine and industry. The benefit that work brings to us is that while the chemical medicines always have two sides: useful and harmful effects, the biological medicines are more safety for human. However, this work has its disadvantage. It is the long hour working in the lab. Usually, I have to spend no less than ten hours every day due to the experimental demand. So I can spend a little time for my family. On my opinion, the hard working is great necessary for this job. Other thing very important is that at first, you

have to get at least a bachelor's degree and then master or higher degrees. I enjoy this work very much because of new discoveries. With it your doings are never repeated. It makes you continuously brainstorm. I think if you get the job that you enjoy; you can work passionately and gain the achievement Part Three Compare the importance of salary and job satisfaction in choosing a job or career On my opinion, salary and job satisfaction have the same importance to everyone. Image, if you get a low paying job which is cushy, what can you live? All of us need money to support the life demands: the food, accommodation, study of childrenIn contrast, if you get high paying job but the work is overweight for you, you would gain bad results, you cannot stand for long time. Besides, the good relationships are the other important thing. It makes you feel freely in working and the results would be better. So both salary and satisfaction are important. Evaluate the importance of good relationships in a work environment As I said, the good relationships make you feel freely in working and the results would be better. In contrast, if relationships in work place are always strained, you could not bear, you might have stress. It is better if you are out of work. So the relationship is very important to choose a job.

Are there any jobs or fields of work, which consider being more appropriate for males or females? Why? We today have the law of gender equality, which permits a woman work in every field and can be treated as well as a man. However, I hold opinion that the women tend to get works being lighter or requiring more care such as clerical works. Other hard works such as miners are likely to be for men. It is because of difference between gender characters. The women also have to spend time to care about their children and family, so they cannot work too long hours as well as men. Of course, it is my opinion only. Consider employment in ABC (your country). Do you think it is more or less segregated in terms of gender than in previous generations? In the past, women were not respected. They were not permitted to sit with visitors and could not give own opinion. Everything was decided by men in family. But today, the position of women is improved in family and in society. They can do everything they want; can join to society activities

as well as men do. Generally, women are treated more equally today.

SPEAKING(22) Part One A 1. Tell me about your hometown I was born and grow in Ha Noi, the capital of Viet Nam. My city's area is about 1600 kilometers square and population is around four million. In 1010 the King Ly visited this place (then its name was Dai La) and saw the Dragon flying to the sky. He recognized the best religious and geographical conditions to build the capital. So, he decided to transfer capital from Ninh Binh to here. He named this place by Thang Long with the meaning of flying dragon. After years, this name was changed to Ha Noi as today. 2. Do you think you will be living there in 10 years time? Why, why not? Of course, I do because there are my parent, relations and all my friends here. Moreover, I have a good job that I enjoy very much; my husband is satisfied with his work and my son has the best school in my city. So I don't find anything making me to transfer to other place. 3. Is there anything about your hometown that would be interesting to foreign visitors? In my city, there are many things attractive to visitors such as scenes, goods and meals. I can introduce with you about foods. Ha Noi is known by typical meals: Pho Ha Noi, Bun Cha, Nem. If you want to have Pho, there is the Pho twenty four in Ba Trieu Street. It means that you have paid twenty four VND per portion. If you like Bun Cha or Nem, come to Hang Manh please. You will be pleased with our meals. 4. Tell me something that you have really enjoyed learning about. The thing I really enjoy learning about is English. At first, I decided to take language course due to the demand of my career, but then I found great attractiveness from it. I can express my thinking by short sentences with full meaning and the alphabet is the same own. Besides, English is used all over the world and in every field of high-technology. 5. Why did you choose this topic in the first place? I choose English in the first place because it is great useful in my job. There are some reasons: I have to read many materials in English; the language of all new devices is English and the most important thing is that I want to improve my specialist knowledge by abroad courses. 6. Is it something that you are still interested in? Beside English, I am interested in my researching of course. It is second most important to me at the moment. I give priority to English because I was very bad in it. In fact, my work is always my hobby. Part Two Id like you to tell me about a possession, which is important to you (what the possession, how you got it, what it looks like, and what way it is important to you, will you always keep it? Is it worth much?) The thing I want to describe is my old book. I remember when I was six, at the first day going to school, my

mother offered me a new book. In fact, it was thin and had only twelve pages with black-white pictures. Its name was "The Gold-fish and a fisherman". It was interesting that this book was written by poetries. You can image that it is too trivial thing today, but in that time (thirty five years ago), this book was all my possessions. That was a legend about a fisherman, who had a rapacious wife and a Gold-fish that was an incarnation of prince of ocean. The legend taught me that don't be too rapacious you might lose all. It was first learn which I could read myself and could never forget. I always keep this book very carefully because it is a memory of my childhood. I put it in solemn place on my bookshelf and sometime show it for my children. Actually, my kids don't understand why I respect it so much and don't know that for me it is inestimable. Part Three Describe the kind of possessions, which are important to children in your culture these days. I can tell you some possessions of our children. It is our custom to wear for our kids a silver string to hope that it help our children avoid getting ill. The other thing is small bag with garlic. Old people think that the garlic can throw out evils and ghosts. In some places, the garlic is replaced by amulet from Pagodas. Beside that our children also have many toys which are the same in Europe countries. How these things differ from the kinds of possessions that were important to you or your parents generation when you were children. When I was a child, I had the same religious things as well as our children have today, but the toys were different. We used to do toys ourselves by using the papers, materials and bamboo sticks. When we did various lamps and dolls we did feel great happy. In contrast, today our children seem to have no this feelings when they get a present from parent. Materialism These day individuals and families seem to have possessions than they did in previous generations. Do you think this it is true? Why, why not? Definitely, it is. We have more possessions than our parent had in the past. I remember that when I was a child, my grandparents had only one wardrobe in family, but today we have it fore everyone. In the past, we had a house fore many generations to live. Today a nuclear family may have several flats or houses for rent. It is because of the increase of society having and higher living standard. Most people these days have more than they need. Do you think this is a good or bad situation? On my opinion, it is bad situation. In fact, the natural resources are running out due to our lavish style. Today, we have more than we need and as the results, there will be nothing for our children after about fifty years. What we can do now is change my life style. Be thrifty please. Do you think that people in future generations will be more or less acquisitive than they did? On my opinion, the following generation would be happier than today generation because of

development in society. Increasing social security would support their life, so they would not have to keep too many things in case. But in fact, the young people today seem to be more pragmatic than in the past. The relationships tend to depend on money and they only want to earn more and more money. They might be more acquisitive in the future. By Diep Speaking 23. Part One A (23) Could you tell me you name please? My name is It means the pink leave. I was named by my grandfather. He thought that this name would make people luckier. Actually, as I feel, my name not influences on my life at all. I personally believe that what you gain in the life depends on your working but not on anything else. If you work hard you will archive what you want. 1.

2. Is it an economically successful city? Why

Yes, it is. My city is political, economical and cultural center of Vietnam. If you were in Ha Noi ten years ago, you could see the quick development of Ha Noi. Our growth rate is around seven percents. It is accounted for all country, but for Ha Noi, I think, it is much higher. In fact, today the goods are full of the market, and it is difficult to find an old house in the Street. Specially, our living standard is much higher.

don't have ability in this field. Everyone have own talent for their area only. Part Two A What the achievement was, why you consider it to be a great achievement, in what way, if any, it has affected your life; what do you think made you successful. The achievement I want to describe is that I passed examination and was admitted into University. In our country this examination is very important to school leavers. It decides who you will be in the future. If you would be enrolled into University you might become a bachelor and could get a good job. There are four modules for applicants to chose. I tend to good at natural subjects, so I chose module B with three subjects: math, biology and chemistry. I had to study very hard in library for three years. In the examination, I was composed and confident to do all exam tasks. As the results, I gained high scores. I remember when I was preparing to exams, my teacher helped me so much. He taught me how study effectively and gave me many valuable books. I think that my teacher played vital role in my achievement. Besides, my mother was a great encouragement for me. She looked after me all the time. She never went to bed when I was still sitting up studying. The love that my mother gave me has encouraged me so much in the life. Part Two B

3. What factors do think make some regions, cities

more successful than others? On my opinion the first factor play vital part in success of a region is the leader. He or she must be a strong and enterprising person. The good leader can see the positive and bad points of own area to make precise solutions. They can exploit maximum their strength to develop economy in the area. Besides, there are some other factors such as the geographical position, the nature resources also contribute to achievement of the region. 4. Do you often write? No, I do not often. I am researcher, so I write articles every time when I finish one work. It is one every three month or more depending on my work results. Some time I write two or more articles at the same time, but can not write anything through a year. 5. When you do write is it for pleasure or because you have to? I hold both sides. When you gain something, you always want to publicate it and so you have to write. When you write it down, it will be known by many people and you will feel pleased. 6. What type of writing do you usually do? I usually write the article for specialist magazine. It includes the data and pictures which are received from researches. I cannot write poetries or tales. I suppose I

Do you tend to talk about this with other people? Why? Of course, yes, I did. I was very proud of my success, so after giving the results I shared the happiness with my friends immediately. We organized a small party in the day after. It was a happiest day in my life. Is it something you would recommend other people doing? The thing I can recommend people doing is hard working. If you work hard you will archive what you want. Part Three Many achievements are due to people who perform in extraordinary ways. What makes them do this? On my opinion, that is the creative power. These people always look at carefully everything to find new way to dissolve the problem. They cannot sit still to wait for loss. Can greatness be learned? Yes, it can be learned. I think the greatness can convert the people who made mistakes in their life to become the good ones. The forgiveness is an expression of greatness. It makes our life better. The forgiveness of mother makes her son return to the life from underworld. What are some of the qualities of a great leader? I suppose, the leader should be a strong and enterprising person. The good leader can see the positive and bad points of own group to make precise solutions. Beside that, they also need a sharp analysis to keep the opportunity to success.

Which is more important the qualities of the leader or of the team? If you had to choose I like the leader with enterprising character. If you

don't deal with risk you never achieve anything. The timid leader will limit the development of the team. So if I can choose the team I would like the enterprising leader and the team with solidarity. By Diep

Part One A (24) 1. What has the weather been like lately where you are living? Today, the weather is very fine. It is a bit difference in this time. The sun shines, the air density is not very high. I feel best in this weather. 2. Is this typical of weather for this time of year? This is spring time. It is warmer. In Ha Noi there is usually drizzly weather; it is humid in this time. People assume that this season is time to bud for trees. It is our custom to plan a tree on the first days of the New Year to hope that it will make our planet be greener. 3. Is this your hometown? Yes, this is my hometown. My parent is Ha Noi citizen. In the war time, to avoid bomb of American army they had to go to the countryside two year, where I was born. After that we return to Ha Noi and this is my hometown.

4. What is your favorite part of your hometown?

My childhood attached closely with the Streets and the lanes. I love my city so much that I cannot tell you what my favorite part is. I like everything in my city. However, if you want me to describe something, I can talk about my school. 5. What is so special about this place? My primary school Trung Vuong is located on Hang Bai Street. Specially, it was built by French, so it had European style with high, big classrooms and large yard with hug trees. The wall of classroom was thick enough to get warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There are three buildings in my school. Each unit had two floors and twenty classrooms. I could say that, it was wonderful indeed. 6. Is this area going to change or do you expect it to always be the same? In what way? I always expect my school to be the same. But today, the number of applicants increases rapidly and these classrooms are not enough for pupils. So they have to construct new buildings. The space to play is shortening and the scene is changing by the days. It is a pity. Part 2 Id like you to describe a travel experience you have (where, when and how you got there, why you went to this place, how you heard about this place, and explain what you expected it to be like before you went and whether it lived up to your expectations). Last year in the summer holidays, my family went to the Phong Nha cave in Quang Binh province. It is located in the middle of our country. The Phong Nha cave is recognized as world cultural heritage by UNESCO with eight hundred meters long. I have heard many people praising this place. They told me that it is the most attractive cave in our country. There we can both relax on the beach in Quang Binh province and visit to Phong Nha cave. So we had decided to go to this position.

At the beginning, we cruise along river Son about thirty minutes by board to reach the entrance to the cave. On the cruising we can look at the scene of imposing mountains. I was attracted much by this and it is extra expectable to me. Then, we have to row by hand into cave because the motorboat is banned there. It is implemented in order to avoid pollution for the cave. When we go in, on the ceiling and both sides of the cave, we can see the stalactites with various figures such as lion, dragon, tortoise, and especially Bodhisattva. It is wonderful indeed. There are also the sands and it is said that this place is resort of fairies and every night they come here to swim. But in fact, nobody see them. In the center of cave, there is a particular complex of two pillars being the symbol of endless love. I was very pleased with this travel and glad that I had done the friend's advice coming here. If you want to get there you can go by bus or train to Dong Hoi station and then transfer to bus to the cave. It is value to visit. Part 3 The tourism industry Compare the tourist trip of local people and foreign visitors to your country. There are some differences between local people and foreign visitors taking trip. The local people tend to go abroad or the exciting places such as resorts to get rest, while the foreign tourists want to discover the countryside scenes. The other thing is that the native people prefer the convenience trips: good accommodation, delicious foods and modern transports. But the foreign people tend to like the walk trips through countryside or forest. Evaluate importance of tourism to your country. Discuss any disadvantages you think there may be for your country in having a large tourist industry. The large tourist industry brings many benefits for us. However, it also has some disadvantages. Firstly, it may destroy nature scene, disturb the wild life because of many ecology tours. Secondly, the tourists may pollute the environment by their garbage. Finally, it may cause social evils when the demand of various services increases, for example: burglaries, murders and prostitution.

Part One (25) 1. Are you working or are you a student? I finished University in 1990 and I have been working for sixteen years. I work in tropical center now. It is located in Hoang Quoc Viet Street. 2. Can you tell me about your course/job? I am biochemist. I am researching biotechnology. My objects are microorganism enzymes. I have to culture bacteria from which we can extract the essential enzyme. I create the recombination ones that are based on bacterial genome and they will be useful with medicine and industry. 3. Tell me about the people you work with. My working group has seven people including five men and two women. All of us finish University with biology degree. We are different ages. The oldest of us is fifty years old. He is the leader of group. The youngest is twenty four years old. He just finishes University. I and other woman are the same ages and are good friends each of other. The men in our group willing help us. We always understand and support each other in working. There is solidarity in my group. 4. Do you socialize with them too? Why/ Why not? Yes, of course I do. Our relationship is very good. On special occasions such as the New Year or summer holidays, each family usually visits to others. We organize light parties. Some time we go out together to create environment for our children to communicate. Specially, at the weekend, sometime we get karaoke together. It is very exciting. Part 2 Id like you to describe a person who has influenced your life (who this person is, how and when you meet them, how you feel about this person, and explain how this person has influenced your life). The person who has influenced my life is my mother. She was a teacher at geography but now she is retire. My mother tell me that, at first, she enroll in pedagogical institute at math but then she had baby (it is my brother) so she had to be out of studying one year. After that she transferred to geography. My mother is frank person. She always speaks what she thing. In working my mother is very patient. Once she starts doing something, it definitely will be done although there are plenty of obstacles. In the life she is strict with herself and with children. I remember, when I was thirteen years old, once the television showed a very interesting film that I had waited for long time. I watched it all evening without doing home works for the day after. When she checks my notebook, she recognizes it and pushes me to study until three o'clock am.

My mother socializes widely. Her friends are everywhere in my country: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, Hai Phong and other places. They some time visit us on business to Ha Noi. Our relations love her and always ask her some advice on problems in the life. My mother looks after us in all fields of life, even when I have a family. I admire mother so much and always try to do as mother do. It is said that the parent are the pattern for children to imitate. I learn much from my mother indeed. 1. Have you been able to keep in contact with this person? Why? Why not? Now, I have a family with my children and a small house. We live six kilometers far from my mother's house. At the weekends, I take my children to visit their grandparent and we have the cozy dinners. We are united family. 2. Do you think it is important to keep in contact with people from your pass? Yes, I do. I think that everyone has the memories in the pass that you can not forget. The old friends are always good friend because this relationship don't base on economical benefit or something like that. Generally, good friends play important role in our life. Part 3 Describe a famous person from your countrys history The famous person who I want to describe is The National Hero Ngo Quyen. He is good military mastermind at throne of King Tran in eighth century. In that time China was a thriving country. To expand own territory they decided to occupant Vietnam. In that time Vietnam was very small compare to China. The weapon was primitive and the boats are common. Ngo Quyen recognized that we can fight against China not by strength but by trick. He recommended putting the sharp bamboo stakes with the end ironed into the river. When the tide rose up, it would not be seen. As the result we had glorious victory. We always are proud of him. Speculate on any differences there might be in your country now if this person had not been born. Commonly, I don't speculate well. In this case, I think that Vietnam experienced many wars and in every time we always had the Heroes. It is said that the epoch create the Heroes, so if our National Hero Ngo Quyen had not been born, the other Hero definitely would appear. These our national Heroes offered their talent to contribute in glorious victories of country in the pass. By Diep

Part One A (26) (Diep) 1. Tell me something about your hometown I was born and grow in Ha Noi, the capital of Vietnam. 2. What is the main building in your city? There are many big building in Ha Noi, but main building I think it is The Ba Dinh meeting-hall where happened conferences of The Vietnam national Assembly. The building was named by the square Ba Dinh, on which it was constructed. It stands opposite the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum. This is huge building with the big meeting room that may contain up to five hundred people. Every year, on the international day of children, there is a meeting of the best pupils in Ha Noi. The being in the Ba Dinh meeting -hall is the pride of everyone. 3. What is the transportation in your city? The Ha Noi transport frightens many people, especially foreign tourists. The people don't obey the traffic rules, our citizen use to go by motorbike and private cars but not buses. So traffic jams often occur at anytime. The other problem in Ha Noi is the poor infrastructure. The roads are narrow, the water system is bad. It cause flood when it is rain. I can advice you to stay at home if it is rain, you cannot go anywhere. The government today manage control situation. Many projects have planed to improve the infrastructure. Beside that authority also pays attention on public transport to improve it, and I hope this circumstance will be overcome. 4. What's the best thing you like in this part of your country?* The best thing I like in our city is the climate. There are four seasons in the year. The spring being humid is suitable for trees to bud. It is the season for birds to couple. So the spring is called by the symbol of love. The summer is hot, but it concerns with the school holidays. It is time for tree named "pupils flower" to show the red color on all of Streets. The summer passes, the autumn is coming. On my opinion it is best time in Ha Noi. The climate is cool and pleased with the light winds. It is time for trees to fall the leaves. The autumn brings something sad and memorable. Following is the cold winter. It is time for birds to fly away and trees to sleep. There are the days cold sharply in the winter. You can feel colder because of high humidity in our city. Every Ha Noi citizen living far from Ha Noi always remembers this typical feature of climate. 5. Does your country have some special occasions or celebrations?

There are many special occasions in my country. Most of our people are religious of Buddhism. In the spring we organize many religious festivals. For example: the Huong Pagoda festival is most important in Buddhism; the Hung temple festival remembers about the first King in our history; the Lim festival praises the traditional songs; Hue festival is where we show traditional culture features of all regions in my country Besides, we also have other modern festival such as flower festival in Da Lat or fruit festival in Ho Chi Minh Citywhere you can appreciate precious flowers and taste various fruits. 6. What will you do in this holiday? If I have time, I would like to go to Huong Pagoda festival. I enjoy this place because not only of religious but because of its scene. When you stand on the top of the mountain you can have the overall view of large region of my country. It is wonderful indeed. 7. What is the changing recent years? Do you mean about my city? Nowadays, Ha Noi has changed much. The standard of living is higher. New high houses appear more and more. The market is full of various goods and the number of tourists increases rapidly. The life seems to be busier and harrier. Do you mean about festival? Today, our festivals are organized with wider extend. Before, it attracts only native people but now it expand for all of regions in country. Beside that, the high tech today also play role in making these celebrations more attractive and impressive. Part Two Id like you to describe a well known person you admired (who is he/she, what does he do? why well known, and explain why you admire). There are many famous people but the person who I admire best is my mother. My mother looks after us in all fields of life, even when I was marriage. I admire mother so much and always try to do as mother do.

It is said that the parent are the pattern for children to imitate. I learn much from my mother indeed.

Part Two B (26) 1. What kind person tends to be famous? Why? Actually, the famous people always must be excellent at certain field. On my opinion, at first, they have talents at birth. Secondly, they must have strong will. If you have the talent but cannot improve it because you don't have the will enough, you might be known by nobody. In contrast, if you have everything but not talent, you can gain achievement limited by certain level. You cannot be eminent. 2. Would you want to be a famous person? No, I don't want because the famous person is the person of population. Your private life is known by everybody. You cannot live for yourselves but for people. You always have to deal with many pressures. I like something more private. Part 3 1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous person? Every thing has advantages as well as disadvantages and the being famous person not exception. On the one hand, the famous people are praised by everyone, their children and relations can be proud of them. They receive the big salary and have a wealthy life. On the other hand, they have to deal with many obstacles in the life. Their private life is known by everybody. They cannot live for themselves but for people. They always have to suffer with many pressures by over expectations of population. Every small mistake could become the hot topic on newspapers. It is uncomfortable. 2. Are famous person being show in advertisement? Why? The advertisers always ask the famous people to do their advertisement. The benefit these people bring is enormous. Firstly, the advertisers can attract many fans of the famous people. Secondly, the famous people always draw attention of population. Finally, population always believes what the famous people say. So the products will be known widely and sold more. 3. Are there any changes of the admired person of people? Why? I suppose that, everyone has own admired person in the certain field of their hobby. For example, the young people tend to admire the singers or soccer. The older tend to admire the musicians or the savants. It is variety. I think there are no changes here. 4. How about the future changes? I think, In the future, it is more difficult to person become famous because of higher demands of population. But other things will not change on my opinion. 5. What is media's attitude about public person? Overall, people always require more and more strictly to famous people. They expect a perfect person. The public person doesn't be permitted to make mistake. It is too ideal and not real, I think. By Diep

What kinds of birds are there in Ha Noi? There is today smaller and smaller space for birds to reside in Ha Noi, so we can see a few of birds only. In the summer morning, we can hear the twitter of Sparrows and Accentors, at night are the birdsongs of Nightingales. The Swallows are the symbol of spring. Many birds cant stand cold so in the winter there are only Barn-owls in Ha Noi. The old people said that this kind of birds is the symbol of unhappiness, when they squeal at night the ghosts will appear and someone has to die. Personally, I don't believe it very much. Some families in Ha Noi feed the birds as loved pets. You can see many kinds of birds in Hoang Hoa Tham Street. There are the Orioles somewhere with attractive yellow necks or nightingale with wonderful songs. If you want to see more birds in Ha Noi, you can go to the zoo park. There are many kinds of precious birds such as Flamingo, Crane, Falcon, Eagle, Ostrich ... It is variety of birds.
