This guide describes the setting process for the IKUSI Double SideBand SZB-400 TV Modulators. This process is carried out through a guided menu of MODES using five keys and the LCD display on the SPI-300 (Ref. 4070) Programming Unit. Keys and : Changes from one mode to another. Within a mode, changes from one submode to another.

MODE 'SEND'. In this mode the current setting values in the programming-controller RAM memory are sent to the modulator. The module is set to these values, which remain unalterable until they are modified in a new sending process. NOTE: The selection mode 4 features ADJUSTMENT IN REAL TIME, ie. it is not necessary to execute the 'send' mode to establish the adjusted value onto the modulator. MODE 'RECEIVE'. In this mode all the setup values established at present in the modulator are received. These values are loaded into the programming-controller RAM memory, so that they can be displayed throughout the selection modes. MODE 'SETUP MEMORIES'. The SPI-300 includes a 20-memory bank (setup memories) to store up to 20 parameter-setting value combinations. This facilitates the rapid setting of repetitive SZB-400 assemblies. Two submodes enable access to the bank: the reading ('select') submode and the writing ('save') submode. In the 'select' submode a setup memory is read and its content remain available in the internal RAM. In the 'save' submode the current parameter value combination in the RAM memory is written in a setup memory.

MODE "CONNECTION". This mode is used when connecting the programming-controller to the SZB-400 modulator. It warns of failures in the modulator, the controller, or their interconnection. MODES 'SELECTION'. In these modes the setting parameter values are selected. These values remain available in the programming-controller's RAM memory: 1. Whole Number of the Video Carrier Frequency. 2. Decimals of the Video Carrier Frequency. 3. TV System of the Output TV Channel. 4. Video Modulation Depth. (Adjustment in Real Time). 5. Carrier Level Ratio. 6. Audio Modulation Index. 7. Group Delay Precorrection. 8. Video Test Signal Generation. IMPORTANT: The values displayed in these Modes are ALWAYS the current values in the RAM memory.

To modify the display figure, proceed as follows: - Press so that the message flashes. - Press to increase the figure and to decrease it. Each time the key is pressed, the figure is changed by 1 MHz. If the key is held pressed, the change is effected fast (5 MHz jumps). - Press again to validate the new "whole number" value, which remains available for sending to the modulator (Mode 'Sending to Modulator') and/or saving in a setup memory (Mode 'Setup Memories'). Press to jump to next mode ('Decimals of the Video Carrier Frequency'), or to go to mode 'Setup Memories' (page 1 1).

The display shows three message lines. In the upper area it appears the programming-controller Software Version (V1.08 for example), in the central area it does the SPI message and in the lower right corner it appears SEL. The display also shows 4 arrows (left, right, up, down). These arrows and the SEL label are shown permanently and intend simply to recall that the keys to be used are , , , and . Press the key or until the SZB4 message appears in the centre of the display. Press . The display shows the modulator Firmware Version (V1.20 for example) for a few seconds, while the setting parameter values established currently in the module are copied into the SPI-300's RAM memory. Then, the programme jumps automatically to mode 'Whole Number of the Video Carrier Frequency' (next page).

If after the firmware version message the ER x message will flash intermittently with the SZB4 message (x can be any number from 1 to 9), this means there is an operation failure in the modulator. If the messages flashing are ER x plus SPI (x can be any number from 1 to 4, or 6), there is an operation failure in the programming-controller. If x is 5, the failure lies in the module-to-controller interconnection: take the USB plug out and reinsert it.
To modify the display figure, proceed as follows: - Press so that the message flashes. - Press to increase the figure and to decrease it. Each time the key is pressed, the figure is changed by 0.25 MHz (250 kHz). - Press again to validate the new "decimals" value, which remains available for sending to the modulator (Mode 'Sending to Modulator') and/ or saving in a setup memory (Mode 'Setup Memories'). Press to jump to next mode ('TV System'), or to go back to mode before ('Whole Number of the Video Carrier Frequency').
REMEMBER that the indications or values on the display are ALWAYS the current ones in the controller RAM memory.

In this Mode the TV system of the output channel is selected (double side-band response). To modify the display indication, proceed as follows: - Press so that the message flashes. - Press or until the desired indication appears. - Press again to validate the new selection of "TV system", which remains available for sending to the modulator (Mode 'Sending to Modulator') and/or saving in a setup memory (Mode 'Setup Memories'). SENDING TO MODULATOR
In this Mode the modulator setup itself is carried out. The parameter values located in the RAM memory of the programming-controller (selected either one by one through the preceding selection modes or at one go from a setup memory in the mode 'Setup Memories'), are sent to the modulator where they are established as effective setup values. Regardless of how the selection has been made, bear always in mind that the values sent are those CURRENTLY DISPLAYED on each of the selection modes. If you do not wish to accede the mode, press to jump to next one ('Receiving from Modulator'). If you do wish to accede, press . The SEND message flashes one time and after it reappears stable again, indicating that the "send" process has been carried out. Press to jump to next mode ('Receiving from Modulator'), or to go back to mode before ('Video Test Signal Generation').
