Kamerunilaisten Akateeminen Yhdistys (K.A.Y) = Cameroonian Intelligentsia Society Why a Society, why not an Association?
Society

= body of individuals (group, community) bounds by functional interdependence, common interests, goals or professions. Term abundantly used in academic communities. Association = membership based upon similar criteria as in societies, but not predominantly social in nature.

KAY: Aims

To establish a dynamic network of Cameroonian students and graduates in Finland. To promote the possible economical, intellectual, political and cultural contributions of the Cameroonian students and graduates in Finland. To promote diversity, to ensure equal opportunities and to warn & prevent discriminations. To gather, within a network Cameroonian and Finnish companies, entrepreneurs, politicians, managers and deciders in order to create a business club and a network of contacts.

KAY: Aims

To establish a referral service of orientation and support (academic, job/internship hunt, leaflets, workshops, symposiums,...) for Cameroonian students and graduates in Finland. To promote and consolidate the academic/economical links/partnerships between Cameroonian and Finnish academic/economical institutions. To collaborate with the Finnish authorities for a better integration of the Cameroonian intelligentsia in the Finnish society. To contribute to the appropriation of the Finnish language and values, while valuing our own identities. To cooperate, exchange ideas and information with other associations whose purposes and activities benefit our members and are consistent with the purposes of the Association.

What will be done to promote the above-mentioned aims

Maintain an information service for the Members. Establish a Secretariat to carry out the core activities of the Organization. Schedule and hold field trips, conferences, workshops, symposiums, discussion panels and other scholarly events. Assist members to understand employers expectations and support them to explore and find suitable opportunities in the Finnish job market and elsewhere. To provide a forum for discussion on common-interest issues.

What will be done to promote the above-mentioned aims

Offer appropriate and consistent support to Finnish legal members who wish to establish a business in Cameroon or a partnership with a Cameroonian organization and vice versa. Publish a tri-annual newsletter on the organization website, as well as other single or periodic publications in various media. Get financial backing for the smooth running/conduct of the various activities of the organization. Search for members that could join the Business club. Encourage the creation of prizes, awards, and honors relevant to the Organizations aims.
