The change that we would like to see is enforcement of the law on ‘Advertisement along
the roadside’. Even though there is an adverts regulation established in 2006, it does not
look like it is enforce by the authority.
The companies that made the advertisements should be aware about the regulation and
the guidelines of erected the advertisements along the roadside.
If there a problem in getting more workers, the departments in-charge such as the
Municipal department, Town and Country Planning and Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) can
organized a schedule to assign workers to specific areas or zones to check the adverts on
a regular basis eg; once a month and report or act so that adverts that are not supposed to
be displayed are removes and that the adverts immediately.
Another possible barriers that may be arise was do the assign people really border to
check the advertisements according to their duty. This barrier cannot be overcome
because it all depends to the officer’s responsibility to their work.
Action Plan for desirable change 2
1. Write a letter to Municipal department, and Town and Country Planning to inform
them we are concerned about the erected of advertisement along the roadside and
the danger it may brings to the road users. As well as, the outdated and abundant
advertisements. In the letter also, we would like to include that the regulation
should be announced to the public.
2. Write a letter to newspaper such as Borneo Bulletin opinion page about the
‘Advertisement along the roadside’. The purpose of this letter is to get more
public’s view (drivers’ perception) about the topic. Since, the survey were only
limited to 100 people. In this letter, we would like to write about our view on
advertisement along roadside and asked the people as well how their feel about it.
When many people respone and give ideas to issue that had been arise by us, only
then maybe the authority such as Municipal department and Town and Country
Planning would take it under consideration.
All the letters will be done and sent in this week and next week.
3. Waiting for reply from the Departments and at the same time see the newspaper
response from the public about the ‘Advertisement along the roadside’.
