1) Warm-up At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher and the students greet each other. The teacher asks one of the students to come to the board and answer some questions connected with the previous lesson. The student gets a note and then the whole class is asked to open the books on page 8. The teacher reads the title, which is Home, looks at the picture and elicits what the unit is about rooms, furniture and objects in the house. After that, individual students are asked what they have in the bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, etc. in their house. The task is estimated to take about four minutes. 2) Presentation The students look at the exercise 1 while the teacher explains the task, giving the instructions. Then, the recording is played with different parts and objects in the house. The students listen and repeat each of the words after pause. After that, the teacher asks them to give the Polish equivalents of all items. The unfamiliar vocabulary appears on the board, with pronunciation and translation. The time allotted for this activity is equal to about six minutes. After listening, the teacher asks the students to look at the table in exercise 2a. The teacher asks one of the students to read it aloud, and then goes through the table with the whole class. Firstly, the teacher explains that the construction There is/are is used to express presence or absence of a given object in a particular place. Next, the students get to know that There is occurs with nouns in singular and There are with nouns in plural. The teacher also underlines that the questions are formed by means of inversion (Is/Are there ...?) and the

negative sentences by adding not to the verb is/are. The teacher points out that some is used with nouns in affirmative sentences, wile any in interrogative and negative ones. All the examples form the table are written on the board and translated. The teacher refers the students to the Grammar Reference Section for more information. The presentation is estimated to last about five minutes. 3) Controlled practice The students look at the exercise 2b at page 8. The teacher reads out the instructions and explains the task. The students are supposed to look at the picture of Jills living room above and fill the sentences gaps with phrases There is/are, There isnt/There arent, according to which home objects can be found there. The teacher allows them about three minutes to complete the task. Then, different students read out individual sentences and the teacher corrects their mistakes. 4) Free practice The teacher organises a game in which the students play in two teams. The students look at the picture of Jills house for a while and close their books. Teams in turns say what there is in each room. Each correct sentence gets one point and the team with the most points wins. e.g. Team AS1: Theres a bookcase in the bedroom. Teacher: Correct. Team A gets 1 point. Team BS1: Theres a vase in the living room. Teacher: Correct. Team B gets 1 point. Team AS2: Theres a lamp in the living room. Teacher: Wrong. etc. The teacher allots about seven minutes for playing this game. 5) Revision In order to revise prepositions of place, the teacher asks the students to look at the exercise 3a at page 9 and elicits the Polish equivalents for each preposition from various students around the class. Then, the teacher explains that prepositions of place are used to describe location of different objects. The unfamiliar prepositions appear on the board with pronunciation and translation. Then, the teacher writes an example of a sentence in which both the construction There is/are and phrases some/any, as well as a preposition of place occur. (e.g. There are some pillows on the bed.) The teacher allocates about five minutes for this presentation. 6) Controlled practice The students look at the exercise 3b and the teacher explains the task, directing their attention to Jills bedroom on page 8. In this exercise, the students are supposed to read the text about Jills bedroom and choose an appropriate preposition of place in each sentence, according to the picture. The teacher allows the students about three minutes to complete the task. 7) Free practice (Additional task) The teacher directs the students attention to the exercise 4. Their task is to ask questions and give answers about Jills bedroom in pairs. The students are supposed to form interrogative sentences concerning all objects found in Jills bedroom. The teacher allows them about three minutes to complete the task. 8) Sum-up The teacher gives the students exercises 1, 2 and 3 from page 7 in Workbook as homework. In the first exercise, the students are supposed to find eight words related to household objects and cross them from the big box with many letters. Task 2 consists in matching the names of the objects from the list to an appropriate room in the house. In the third exercise, the students have to answer the questions, using the correct preposition of place. The teacher reminds the students that they should know the material from todays class for the next time. The teacher and the students say goodbye to each other and leave the room.
