Paragraph Beyond Culture People are different from one another. Each person has his/her own beliefs and values which affect not only him/her but also others. Generally, ones characteristic depends on the culture where they grew-in. Culture, basically, is a developmental knowledge/schema of all things. These things are divided into seven general parts which are known as the elements of culture. The first element of culture is language, which is human speech it is what we use in interacting with others. By using language we are able to communicate with other people. We use language in an everyday basis, and we do this verbally or through body language. Language expresses our feelings and thoughts for us to tell people what we want them to know. uWe frown when we are sad, we shout when we are excited or terrified, we explain things during discussions. In all ways, we use language as an expression. uA particular country may have two or three languages, an example of which is Zimbabwe which has three languages English, Shona and Ndebele and numerous elements of culture).

Philippines the national language is Filipino and numerous dialects can be found. The next element of culture is the norms, which are the things that we follow and which generally accepted by people of a certain

societies, it is acceptable that the elders should be place in the home for the aged. However in the Philippines people will have negative thoughts about that person if he/she would do such action. Values, as an element of culture, describe how people give importance to a specific thing.
u

For example Americans value democracy and liberty which for other countries may be not that

important (http://frank.mtsu.edu/~jbwallae/1010/lectur04.htm). Diverse groups of people have

their own ranking on things to which are more important and which are not. uSome people give importance to the brand they wear but for some the feeling of comfort that the clothes bring is more important.

The fourth element of culture is the beliefs and ideologies that a person follows. Beliefs are the truths that are accepted by groups of people or by a society

(http://frank.mtsu.edu/~jbwallae/1010/lectur04.htm). On the other hand, ideology is the connection between different beliefs (http://frank.mtsu.edu/~jbwallae/1010/lectur04.htm). The

Philippine culture is rich with superstitious beliefs. uExample of this is the belief that dwarfs exist and fairies are protecting the Mount Makiling. uIn some religious traditions, reincarnation is believed to be true when a person dies, his/her soul will go to another human body or to an animal or plant. The next element of culture is the social collectives or a symbolic construction of group.

Symbolic means that the group symbolizes one idea this group of people believes in one thing are tribes, organizations, communities

that is why they decided to build a group to be recognize by the society. uExamples of social collectives and institutions (http://www.buzzle.com/articles/what-are-the-elements-of-culture.html). An institution is a

social collective because it has a mission and a vision to which every employee believes in. The six element of culture refers to the statuses and roles of people. Status is the position of a person in the society while roles are the particular rights and responsibilities of a person in the society (http://frank.mtsu.edu/~jbwallae/1010/lectur04.htm). uAn example of status is the gender of a person whether he/she is a girl or a boy. With the knowledge of ones gender, a person will be able to know the things that should be done according to the demand of his/her society. uAnother status is age. Here in the Philippines, a child should study for his/her future.
u

When one becomes an adult, he/she should be able to help his/her parents, for

example, by paying some expenses in the house. The last element of culture is cultural integration. This is the connection between elements of culture. Moreover, it gives the interrelation of the elements and how one affect the other. Example of this is the connection of the beliefs to social collectives. Groups are formed because people believe in one idea and they want to nurture and maintain that idea. All of these, when put together, define what culture is. Culture may bind or separate people from one another. uFilipinos may still smile even if there are many challenges presented to them but other races may take it in a different way. People may misunderstand a person because his/her practices and beliefs are not the same with them.

For example, in Chinese

culture, parents prefer Chinese man for their daughter to marry. On the other hand, Americans are open to any race for marriage. To address these differences, one needs to understand the background of a person for him/her to know the reason behind each action. Knowing the elements of culture will help people understand different ways of living. People must remember that everyone has his/her own culture. Every nation should be able to respect each culture for people to appreciate and deal with its differences. Kinds of Support
