Device Redundancy

Section 1 Release Notes

Device Redundancy
The following fault conditions cannot be detected in the linking device itself and need to be covered at application level: a loss of an H1 connection between the Primary Device and a subset of devices on an H1 link a loss of an H1 connection between the Secondary Device and the entire H1 link or a subset of devices on an H1 link. As a consequence of this limitation an accidental permutation of the H1 link connections at the secondary linking device - e.g. during replacement of the secondary linking device - will not be detected right away. On application level detection will not be possible before a redundancy switch-over takes place.

Duration of Redundancy Switch-over

During redundancy switch-over, the activity on H1 links is interrupted. From the perspective of a single H1 device, publishing or subscribing a process value is interrupted for a period of time that is composed of the following times: fault detection time tfd redundancy switching time trs macro cycle duration tmc

The time of inactivity due to redundancy switch-over for a single process value is therefore: time of inactivity tfd + trs + tmc compared to tmc during regular operation. tfd 800 ms if the Primary Device fails. tfd 500 ms if the Ethernet connection on the Primary Device is removed. trs = 500 ms.

The fault detection time is:

The redundancy switching time is:

The macrocycle duration depends on the configuration and is usually in the range of 200 ms to 1000 ms.

Section 1 Release Notes

H1 Slot Time

Typical configurations with macro cycles of up to 1000 ms result in inactivity periods (related to a single process value) between 1 and 2 seconds. Figure 1 shows the situation for a switch-over time (tfd + trs) of 1000 ms and a macro cycle duration (tmc) of 1000 ms. In that case typically one cycle of published data will be lost. If the macro cycle duration is 500 ms (dotted lines), two cycles will be lost.

Figure 1. Duration of Redundancy Switch-over

H1 Slot Time
The H1 bus parameter "SlotTime" has to be less than 50. Otherwise, the maximum time of inactivity on an H1 link would exceed 200 ms, which in turn would have an impact on the fault detection time (i.e. a failure in an H1 channel could not be detected within the currently used fault detection time).

Updating Linking Device Firmware to Release 1.50

Updating Linking Devices to Firmware Release 1.50 Requires Subsequent Download of Configuration Data

When updating linking devices with firmware 1.30 or later to firmware 1.50, existing configuration files will be accepted. However to ensure comparable configuration it is required to download configuration data after the update. When updating a non-redundant linking device, follow the procedure described on page 56 of the User Instructions (3BDD011677R0501); make sure that the checkbox Erase Linking Device Configuration is checked.

Updating Linking Device Firmware to Release 1.50

Section 1 Release Notes

When updating a redundant set of linking devices, follow the procedure described in subsection Different or Unknown Configuration File Formats on page 59 of the User Instructions (3BDD011677R0501).

Updating Linking Devices with Firmware Releases Prior to 1.20

Updating firmware releases prior to 1.20 to release 1.50 using the web server might not be successful in some cases, due to defects in the update procedure of those early releases. When such problems are encountered, first try to repeat the firmware update. Before repeating, clear the cache of your browser (delete all temporary internet files) to make sure that the linking device is accessed and not just the local cache. If the update process fails permanently, perform the firmware update using the RS232 connection and a TFTP server. For detailed information on how to update the firmware using a TFTP server see the User Instructions FOUNDATION Fieldbus Linking Device LD 800HSE.

Correct Behavior that may be Misinterpreted as Fault

Correct Behavior that may be Misinterpreted as Fault

The behavior described below may be misinterpreted as fault, but in fact it is correct behavior. Configuration is Lost due to Double Fault After certain error conditions the Secondary Device will reboot. If the TCP connection between two redundant linking devices is broken, a cyclic reboot occurs. During that situation, the Secondary Device deletes its configuration information. If in such a situation the Primary Device fails or is restarted manually, the former Secondary Device will become Primary Device, but without any configuration, resulting in a non-configured and therefore non-operational system. Workaround: Do not shut down or reboot the Primary Device when the Secondary Device is not fully operational. Writing Link Settings with Reduced Address Range Fails If the H1 link settings are being changed in a way that an existing H1 device falls into the unpolled address range (from first unpolled node to first unpolled node + number of unpolled nodes -1), the write request will return with error. Workaround: Disconnect affected H1 devices before reducing the H1 address range.

Fixed Problems

Section 1 Release Notes

Fixed Problems
Configuration
Table 3 lists the major system or product configuration issues that have been corrected since the previous version or service pack. A brief description of the correction has also been given. Table 3. Corrected Configuration Issues
Issue Correction or Fix

Version Information of Configuration Data is Version information are stored in non-volatile Lost when Power is Removed memory without decreasing life time of FLASH memory. For many sets of objects in the Linking Device version numbers are maintained which are incremented each time an object is modified. Those version numbers are not stored in non-volatile memory (because changes are so frequent that the life time of the FLASH memory would decrease dramatically). Configuration tools using that version information to perform incremental download, will perform a full configuration download when applying the first configuration change after power-on. LD800HSE-CN-3202-001

Operational
Table 4 lists the major system or product operational issues that have been corrected since the previous version or service pack. A brief description of the correction has also been given.

Section 1 Release Notes

Operational

Table 4. Corrected Operational Issues

Issue In an Overload Situation No Client/Server Services will be Handled. Publisher/Subscriber services are handled with higher priority than Client/Server services. When there is an overload situation caused by too many Publisher/Subscriber services, no Client/Server services will be handled. This may lead to the following behavior: Management access to the linking device is not possible any more and the live list in the configuration tool may become empty. When the number of Publisher/Subsriber services is being reduced, a big number of queued Client/Server services has to be processed. That might cause the watch-dog timer to expire, what in turn causes a reboot. LD800HSE-OL-3202-002 Primary and Secondary Device use the same H1 Address after a Redundancy Switch-over. If the signals on a H1 link are disturbed after a redundancy switch-over it is possible that the Primary and Secondary Device use the same H1 address. This leads to a loss of the communication on this H1 link. LD800HSE-OL-3202-003 Fixed in this version. Correction or Fix A minimum processing resource (CPU load) is reserved for Client/Server services in overload situations.

Miscellaneous

Section 1 Release Notes

Miscellaneous
Table 5 lists the major issues that do not fit into one of the other categories that have been corrected since the previous version or service pack. A brief description of the correction has also been given. Table 5. Corrected Miscellaneous Issues
Problem or Issue FF H1 Signals in Controller Invalid after some Short H1 Cable Drops This situation may occur rarely when the H1 cable between H1 devices and Primary Device is disconnected and reconnected again before the redundancy switch-over caused by disconnecting the cable is completed. Note: This behavior has been reported under situations which do not occur during regular operation. LD800HSE-MS-3202-004 Correction or Fix Fixed in this version.

Operational

Section 1 Release Notes

Operational
Table 7 lists the issues that may exist and affect operational of the system or product at time of release. Workarounds, clarifications, or helpful hints have been provided for each issue wherever possible. Table 7. Operational Issues
Issue Gap in Cyclic Communication during Redundancy Switch-over Workarounds, Clarifications, and Helpful Hints No workaround available.

Cyclic communication will be restarted During redundancy switch-over the cyclic automatically. communication of certain signals may be temporarily interrupted. This issue has been observed rarely; the communication gap for the affected signals was about 7 seconds. LD800HSE-OL-3300-002 Secondary Device Not Ready After Redundancy Switch-over After a redundancy switch-over caused by disconnection of an H1 link, the new secondary linking device may not be ready to become primary again. In this situation the F- and R-LEDs on the front panel of the linking device will indicate the state Secondary Device, not ready and in ABBs 800xA system a system alarm No secondary linking device will be generated. Furthermore the secondary linking device will no longer be displayed in the HSE live list of ABBs configuration tools. LD800HSE-OL-3300-004 To re-establish device redundancy reboot the Secondary Device e.g. by temporarily switching off the power supply. Assure yourself, that device redundancy is available after reboot has finished.
