Materials
2 - 50 gr balls Maizy (82% corn fiber - 18% elastic nylon) -Maizy color used in sample socks: #9759 "iguana" [2 balls will make all 4 socks.] Crystal Palace DPN & Circular Needles: (a) 16" circular needles for the ruffles in US size 3 (3.25 mm). (b) doublepointed needles (dpn) in US sizes 2 and 1.5 (2.75 and 2.5 mm).
Note 1: the foot and heel on the adult sock are deliberately worked to a tighter gauge to enhance wear. I personally do not like the feel of the tight foot gauge on my leg; so the leg is worked with a more relaxed gauge. Wear is likely not an issue for an infant sock so the entire sock can be knit with one needle size. Inspiration: Maizy is an exciting new yarn made from corn. I love how it s thus a renewable resource, but the real joy with Maizy is how it feels so nice to knit with and to wear! The iguana colorway was just plain exciting to work with and somehow led me to thinking ruffles. There IS an animal called a frilled or ruffled iguana do you think that had any influence on my ruffles? Here's a Crested Iguana photo. Web Images Ravelry: Sk8r Chick Ruffle (5) (3) Sock pattern by Sean Riley Options Details: Infant size is for 3- months or larger. Adult size is written as a ladies Medium 6 (size 8 US, with a 9 in foot, and 8.5 in ankle); changes for Small and Large are in ( ). Any increases or decreases needed for design optimization are worked at the center back.

Work heel as follows: a) *(Sl- k1) across; turn. b) Sl- st and P across; turn. 1, 1 11. Work the two rows above until the heel is ~1.5 in (3.81cm) from start. Turn Heel 12. The instep will be worked in rib until all the gusset decreases are completed. 21. You are about to pick up the gusset sts going up the other side of the sock. 22. Pick up and knit all the slipped sts on the remaining gusset side, and knit the sts on needle 3. Gusset Decreases 23. Knit one round with no changes. 24. The gusset decreases will be worked as 2 rounds: a) decrease round: Needle 1, knit across to last 3 sts; k2 tog, k1; Needle 2, k2p2 rib; Needle 3, Knit 1, Sl- knit 1, pass slip st over; knit. 1, b) Plain round: on needles 1 and 3, knit. On needle 2, work in rib as established. 25. Knit the 2 rounds of the gusset decreases until your stitch count returns to the starting number of sts after ruffle (40). Foot 26. 30. Knit the toe, alternating the a) and b) rows until ~20 sts remain. 31. Work every round as a decrease round - Needle 1: k to last 3 sts, k2tog, and k1. Needle 2: k1, Sl 1, k1, pass slip sts over (psso), k to last 3 sts, k2tog, and k1. Needle 3: k1, sl- k1, psso, k to end. 1, 32. When you have only ~8 sts remaining, cut the yarn leaving an 8 in (~20 cm) end. 33. Close toe as desired. My preferred method is to use a crochet hook and pull the yarn end through each st, and drop it off needle. Pull snugly to gather and move end to inside. Finishing 34. Using the crochet hook or tapestry needle, weave in the yarn ends from toe and caston. If you work in the end diagonally, through 3 sts upwards and 3 downwards, it won t work free easily. Final Ruffle 35. Remember that purl ridge we knit in the middle of the ribbing on the leg? It serves as the easy pickup ridge for the final detail. Using a crochet hook or spare needle, pick up and knit each stitch from the purl ridge. You will pick up 40 loops, and need to be consistent in choosing the top or bottom loop to pick up. Arrange the sts conveniently onto your needles. 36. Knit 1 round. 37. Increase 1 st in every st; you now have 80 sts. 38. Knit 1 round. You may need to use an extra dpn needle or a short circular needle. 39. Inc 1 st in every st; you now have 160 sts. 40. Knit 1 round. 41. Now bind off in purl: purl 2, bind off 1, etc. until all sts are bound off. 42. Cut the yarn and work in your end.

each stitch from the purl ridge. You will pick up 72 (56, 84) loops, and need to be consistent in choosing the top or bottom loop to pick up. Arrange the sts conveniently onto your needles. 38.
