Readme for Advanced Road Design 2010.05

This readme contains important information regarding the installation and use of the Advanced Road Design 2010.05.

Installation Instructions
Upgrade/Update: This installation is a new version of Advanced Road Design, version 2010 for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010. You do not need to uninstall any previous versions of Advanced Road Design. The installation will use the common folder from previously installed ARD 2009 installation.

Licensing
Upgrade/Update: The existing licensing from a previously installed ARD 2008/2009/2010 will be used - there has been no change to the licensing system.

General
This Install includes all the fixes and enhancements from all previous Advanced Road Design 2010 releases.

Resolved Issues
This installation resolves a number of bugs & issues, including: ARD Roads Using a blank entry for the right side of a Fixed Batter will now omit the batter from the model. Previously leaving the right entry blank would cause the software to crash The selected sections for Volume Reports are now used to generate the volume report when the Trim Intersection is NOT selected. Previously the volume report was always generated using all sections, irrespective of the option selected when the command was run. Cross Section Plotting: o The Crossfall annotation options of NS and NS & Design now work as expected. Previously using either of these options would result in no crossfall annotation on the cross sections. o All the Masking Options now work as expected. Previously using any of these options would result in no masking of any elements on the cross section. This command will only mask a model added to the cross section using Section By Featureline option. Long Section Plotting: o The Cut/Fill volumes now calculate correctly when Selected Section spacing is used. Previously the volumes displayed at a section was calculated based on All Sections and may display incorrect values when Selected Sections was used. o The Cut/Fill Volumes now calculate using the bulking factors as defined in the Design Data form for the road. Previously they were always calculated based on the solid mass values. In some situations an Alignment could be found at multiple instances when a kerb return was located and caused the kerb return not to create. This has been fixed and in these situations the kerb return will create as expected.

ARD 2010.05

ARD Pipes The software now sums all bypasses applied to a pit. Previously the software incorrectly summed multiple bypass applied to a pit. The Vertical Grading Editor (VGE) will now open when a network that has been created with zero length pipes. Previously when a network containing zero length pipes was opened into the VGE, the software would crash.

Known Issues
The following is a list of known issues with the software ARD Pipes VGE o o o

The slope displayed in the VGE may display a rounding error. This error in display on the VGE does not affect the plotting or reports. The Pipe ID displayed is the automatic number assigned by the software, even if the pipes have been otherwise named. The software may crash if you have or have had two or more VGE windows open displaying the same network and delete a pit along a pipe common to both VGE windows.

ARD Roads The Display Surface Model as 3D Faces command can yield incorrect triangulation at selected locations, normally expressed by the ignoring of breaklines in the intersections. You may be able to correct this issue by applying additional sampling.

General
This Install includes all the fixes and enhancements from all previous Advanced Road Design 2010 releases.

Updated Commands
The following commands have been updated: ARD Pipes Trench Volumes This command has been updated to additionally create a CSV format version of Trench Volume report. The CSV file is named DrVolsCSV.csv and is located in the ADVRoads sub-directory in the Data folder for the project. Various Commands - Assigning Layers The layer name for any command requiring a layer to be selected can be entered directly. If the layer exists the software will use it, otherwise it will be created. The created layer will be white with a continuous linetype.

Resolved Issues
This installation resolves a number of bugs & issues, including: Network Licensing Running an ARD Pipes command after running an ARD Roads command (or vice versa) no longer consumes a second license when running the software on Window Vista or Windows 7 workstation. Previously the software would use two licenses when ARD Roads and ARD Pipes were run on a workstation using Windows Vista or Windows 7. Standalone installations were not affected. ARD Pipes A pit located off the design surface will no longer cause a crash. Previously the software may crash or generate an error if the pit was off the design surface.

ARD 2010.04

The trench volume command now calculates the volumes correctly with regard to box sections. Previously the trench width and cross section area were incorrectly determined when a box section was specified. The trench volume command now takes into account multiple pipes correctly. Previously multiple pipes where not considered. When inserting or deleting a pit in one VGE window and the same section of network is shown another open VGE window(s), the pit is correctly inserted in all open VGE windows. Previously the software would not show the pit on the second or subsequent VGE windows until they were closed and re-opened. When deleting a pit in the VGE window and the pit is the downstream outlet, at a branch junction or the top of a branch, the software will no longer allow the pit to be deleted.

ARD Roads The Curved T cul-de-sac now correctly calculates the approach road width correctly. Previously the approaching road width was determined at the start of the incoming road.

ARD 2010.03

Updated Commands
The following commands have been updated: ARD Pipes Create/Update Network This command has been updated to allow the pipes sizes to be locked at the time of creation of the network. This only applies to drainage networks. Categorise Items New Items The following new items have been added to the Plotting/Reporting items list: o Pit Road Grade % (P70) reports the road longitudinal grade when pit attached to a road. IMPORTANT NOTE: This install will overwrite the Category List (ARDPipePlotItems.txt found in the Common Folder) as part of the installation process. Please backup this file prior to installing this update and restore afterwards to maintain your custom category list. It is the users responsibility to ensure that the new items listed above are included in your custom Category List. Branch Sequence This command has been updated to allow for user defined starting numbers of the line/branch numbers. Please refer to the help system for more information. Plot Long Section General Settings This command has been updated to allow for the line/branch chainages to start at chainage 0. General Report Table Settings This command has been updated to allow for the line/branch chainages to start at chainage 0. The line/branch direction can also be set. ARD Roads Cross Section Plotting Section Annotation This command has been updated to include arrows in the cross section output when the cross sections are annotated. The style of the arrow is controlled from the Miscellaneous tab in the Active Drawing Sections.

Resolved Issues
This installation resolves a number of bugs & issues, including: ARD Pipes The pit position when connected to a road can now be outside the extents of the road (beyond the batter). Previously the pit could only be positioned within the extents of the road at the chainage it was attached to. The software will now insert/delete a pit in the VGE correctly. Previously an error could occur when the same pipe the pit was being inserted/deleted on was shown in multiple VGEs. The software will issue a warning that a Pipe ID is missing in the Pipe Table if the Pipe ID has been renamed/deleted. Previously an error would occur if a Pipe ID was in use in the project and it was deleted/renamed in the Pipe Tables in the Active Network Settings. The software has been adjusted to calculate the flows for the subareas of a catchment. In the rational method used in ARR, the process is to compute the fraction impervious (from grassed and paved areas) and then compute the TOTAL

ARD 2010.03

flow form the entire catchment. This process DOES NOT permit the calculation of flows from individual subareas. Thus, to compute the individual flows to pipes and gutters, the software uses the following approach: o assume C for Paved areas as 0.9 x Runoff Coefficient Frequency Factor o compute C for the Grassed areas using the ARR formula, with fraction impervious = 0. o use these C Factors to compute the flows for every subcatchment, keeping track of the 4 different types of flow: Paved to Pipe (say 10) Grassed to Pipe (say 15) Paved to Gutter (say 20) Grassed to Gutter (say 30) o add up these 4 flows and check against the total flow for the catchment. Invariably, these numbers are not the same, so they are then adjusted linearly so that their sum equals the total computed flow. Using the numbers above, the total computed flow from the subareas is 75. If the computed flow was 60, then all the numbers would be multiplied by 60/75, to make sure that the total from the individual areas adds to the total computed using CIA. ARD Roads The subgrade figures in Cross Section plotting now display as expected. Previously the figures where not plotted on the cross section even when the option was ticked on.

Known Issues
The following is a list of known issues with the software ARD Pipes VGE o o o

The slope displayed in the VGE may display a rounding error. This error in display on the VGE does not affect the plotting or reports. The Pipe ID displayed is the automatic number assigned by the software, even if the pipes have been otherwise named If you have two VGE windows open displaying the same network and insert a pit along a pipe common to both VGE windows, the inserted pit will not be displayed in the second VGE window. You must close and reopen the second window to show the inserted pipe. If you try to edit original pipe in the second VGE window you will create an error message no pits will be inserted and no edits made will be saved.

ARD Roads The Display Surface Model as 3D Faces command can yield incorrect triangulation at selected locations, normally expressed by the ignoring of breaklines in the intersections. You may be able to correct this issue by applying additional sampling.

Readme for Advanced Road Design 2010.02

This readme contains important information regarding the installation and use of the Advanced Road Design 2010.02.

Licensing
Upgrade/Update: The existing licensing from a previously installed ARD 2008/2009 will be used - there has been no change to the licensing system.

General
This Install includes all the fixes and enhancements from all previous Advanced Road Design 2010 releases.

Core Functionality Changes

ARD Pipes Pit Properties There has been a change to the software with regard to determining the surface for the Top of Pit Level and Hydraulic Design Levels. The software will assign the surface as defined in the Active Network Settings when a pit is first created. If this surface is deleted or renamed, then the software will use the surface as per the Active Network Settings. The surface listed in the properties will NOT be updated even though it may be using a different surface for either of these properties. Active Network Settings The software will constantly check for the existence of the Design surface defined on the General > Defaults tab in the Active Network Settings. If this surface doesnt exist, an error message will be displayed and the user will be directed to assign a different surface from the drawing. Bottom of Pit Level: By default, the Bottom of Pit Level is defined as the Depth from Downstream Pipe Invert. Previously the default value as defined as Depth from Downstream Pipe Bottom (Invert + Wall Thickness) Pipe Downsizing Drainage Networks This is a new toggle option, allowing the user to prevent automatic downsizing of pipes By default, pipe downsizing is disabled in the settings to emulate the current behaviour of the software Creating House Connections Depth Checks have been included in the House Connection Types (Active Network settings) a warning message will display when a House Connection is created until depth check values and included for the applied House Connection Type

ARD 2010.02

Commands Added
The following commands have been added to the software: ARD Pipes Edit Sewer House Connection Details This command allows you to edit the Lot Number, Area, Boundary Offset and Connection Type for a selected house connection. Label Sewer House Connections This command labels all sewer house connections in plan with the invert level of the house connection at the outlet to the sewer pipe as well as the distance of the house connection from next the downstream pit Highlight Network This command highlights and zooms and/or pans the selected network (either from pick or list) in the drawing Highlight Orphaned Pipes/Pits This command highlights all pipes and pits that are NOT part of a network. Each pipe/pit type (drainage, sewer, house connection, service) is highlighted in a different colour. Vertical Grading Editor Match Pipe Obverts This command allows the user to select the upstream or downstream end of a pipe. Once selected, the pipe end will raise/lower to match the obvert of the next pipe. Note: The Minimum Drop requirement is controlled for the inlet pipe at a pit. If an outlet pipe at a pit is set to match obverts and the inlet pipe is being automatically controlled by the software, it will adjust to maintain the minimum pit drop.

Updated Commands
The following commands have been updated: ARD Pipes Active Network Settings o House Connection Types now includes: a Description field has been included. This can be reported at the time of plotting sewer long sections Design Checks have been included to establish minimum and maximum depth and drop values warning messages will be displayed when these values are not achieved, and drop/depth violations are identified in the House Connection Report. o Sewer Design Tables Tab A new tab called House Connection Types has been included. This table allows you to establish house connection labels based on the depth of the house connection. This can be included in the Text notation for House Connections represented on a Sewer Long Section plot. VGE o The Max/Min drops at a pit are now displayed for both the upstream and downstream ends of the highlighted pipe o The Depth to Invert is now displayed for the upstream and downstream end of the pipe, measured from top of pit to invert of downstream pipe The Network Labelling Settings command now allows you to set an initial starting pit number for the network. The Edit Network Labelling Styles command now allows you to include the Chainage as part of the style name

ARD 2010.02

Resolved Issues
This installation resolves a number of bugs & issues, including: ARD Pipes A critical issue with the Create/Edit Catchment command has been resolved. Previously the Fraction Impervious value was applied to determine the Pervious area when the Catchment Calculation Method was set to Total Area and Fraction Impervious. This will impact an previously created catchment of this type. The Label Network command now labels the pipe sizes correctly Long Section Plotting o The Plot to File option now outputs as expected each sheet is created as a separate file. o Using the Plot to Layout command for a Drainage Network no longer deletes the layouts outputted for a different drainage network Vertical Grading Editor o Pipe cover was being incorrectly calculated from the design surface to the pipe obvert. Pipe cover is now correctly calculated and applied using the outside edge of the pipe as defined in the Pipe Table. o The HGL now updates correctly when a pit is deleted o The HGL now updates correctly when a Pit Loss Coefficient is set/adjusted for a pit o In certain circumstances using the Set/Clear Lock Status on All Pipes command could result in an error. This issue appears to have been resolved o Clash detection was being determined for the pipes currently being edited in the VGE only (and not accounting for the crossing pipe). Now the clash detection will activate based on the clearances of EITHER the crossing or longitudinal pipe clearance being violated In the Active Network Settings>Sewer>Design Tables>Junction Pit Drop tabs the image displaying the maximum angle calculation was incorrect. This has been rectified. If the pipe properties were edited using the Edit Pipe command, the Label Network command would not label the pipe correctly until the VGE had been opened or closed. This has been fixed There was an issue with a number of the sorting options in the Reports Manager not sorting the pits as expected. This issue has been resolved. The Label Network command now reports the slope as a number only previously the command automatically appended a prefix of 1:. The user needs to use the Prefix/Suffix to add text before/after this number. The Clash Detection report now uses the assigned pit and pipe numbers/labels The Branch Sequencing command previously required the DOT linetype to be included in the drawing. This requirement has been removed An issue with zero pipe lengths being created has been resolved Previously it was possible to apply a pit simultaneously to more than one network, which led to calculation errors. When a new network is created, the software now checks to ensure that no pit is already part of another network. ARD Roads Slope patterns now plot at either equal intervals or sampled road chainages. Previously slope patterns would be inserted at all sampled road chainages only. An issue calculating the second layer of a multi-layered pavement section in the Template Editor has been resolved. Previously, when the second layer of the pavement was set to extend out to the design the vertical calculation of the layer at the design intercept was being incorrectly calculated. The Heading Controls in cross section plotting now functions as expected. Previously the control was not used and was not able to be edited. Note that any previously added control will need to be deleted and re-added after this update has been installed.

ARD 2010.02

The Datum surface creation can now be made in a project that does not contain kerb returns. Previously if not kerb returns existed, the datum surface could not be created. The batter settings for a kerb return now update when the kerb return alignment is altered using the Kerb Return command. Previously once the batters for a kerb return were initially created, the software never updated them. An issue with creating setout for a single chainage has been resolved. Previously the setout values were incorrect when only one chainage was setout. The Model Manager surface combining Roads and Strings now creates as expected. Previously the string(s) where not included in the model When the Auto Model model is included in a Model Manager model, the software will now ask if the Automatic Trimming should be applied. The Automatic Trimming will trim the roads at the intersections, kerb returns, cul-de-sacs & knuckles like the surface created using the Auto Model command. If the trimming is not applied, the strings at these locations will overlap.

Previously when the Corridor was created/updated multiple error messages were reported in the Event Viewer. This fix is irrespective of whether or not Service Pack 1 has been installed.

Known Issues
The following is a list of known issues with the software The volume report trimming feature may include volume for sections of the road beyond the start/end of the cul-de-sac alignment. If Split Datum is applied any Hatching applied to the long section is not adjusted to match the datum split(s). When you create a kerb return and use the Auto option for the creation of the cross sections, the software applies a Batter Override using the slope value as specified in the Active Drawing Settings and using the start/end chainage of the alignment at the time of creation. If you subsequently extend the kerb alignment the Batter Override entry will not be updated this will result in a section of the kerb return to be without batter slopes applied. You will need to adjust the Batter Override controls in the kerb returns design data form to edit the end chainage for the batters if you extend the kerb alignment after creation Conditionally Delete Sections o The LBAT or RBAT codes CANNOT be used as the Code Existing to Trigger Variation The Add CADApps Catalog, Set Common Folder and Set Data Path commands can be restricted on VISTA operating systems due to the Vista security protocols. As a workaround you can adjust the Vista permissions and user controls to enable these changes. The CADApps Subassembly catalog can be manually created by running (double clicking on) the ATC-2010.reg file (or ATC-2010PLK.reg for Polish customers) from the Common folder (start the command ARD General Settings Path - Open Settings Folder to view the common folder) Some Variations are exclusive after they are applied they are not overridden or adjusted by subsequent variations. The operations affected by this include: o Set Code Offsets/Levels to match Surface o Insert Section and Match Code Levels to Surface Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to re-order these commands as required. If you run the Roads module prior to running the Sewer module you may get a Runtime Error when trying to set the location. If this occurs shut down Civil 3D and restart the Sewer module before you run the Roads module.

If this occurs shut down Civil 3D and restart the Sewer module before you run the Roads module. When you insert the ARD Super Subassembly into an Assembly it will not display correctly and several warnings will appear in the Event Viewer if you are not running AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Update 1 or later. The subassembly will function as expected and the corridor will build as per normal. Installing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Update 1 will resolve this issue. When creating the Civil 3D Corridor of the Road model, error messages will be displayed in the Event Viewer. This will not impact on the quality of the Corridor model, it will build as expected. However due to the large number of error messages, the built time may be slower then expected. Installing AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Update 1 will resolve this issue.
