Table of Contents Email Delivery via PubMed

PubMed can automatically email you tables of contents from journals of your choice as the journals are published. To take advantage of this service you will need to create a MyNCBI account for PubMed if you have not already set up an account.

Step 1: Set up a MyNCBI account or use an existing MyNCBI account Access PubMed through the UT Health Science Center Libraries web page and select MyNCBI from the upper right corner of the PubMed screen.

Log in if you have an account or click on Register for an account to create a username/password. It is possible to use your UTHSCSA Domain account login by selecting Sign in via Partner Organization and selecting the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from the list.

Step 2: Search for a journal or journals 1. From the PubMed homepage, click on the Advanced link located directly under the search box.

2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Using the Search Builder, select Journal from the drop down menu. Begin typing the full name of the journal. Click the title from the drop down box if you see the correct title as you type. The information will be transferred to the search box. Click Search. If you prefer to set up tables of contents from more than one journal in a single search, change the AND to OR and repeat steps 2-5 until you have selected all of the titles you want. [This is convenient, but it does mean that it will be more difficult to delete a single journal if you decide to do so later.]

Step 3: Set up email delivery 1. From the results screen, click on Save Search above the search box. (If you have not logged in to MyNCBI, you will be prompted to do so.)

2. Change the name of your search if you want. Click on Save. 3. The next screen allows you to set email alerts. Under the question, Would you like e-mail updates of new search results? select Yes according to how often you would like to receive the new citations. 4. Pick your preferences for delivery format. (Abstract is handy to know what the articles are about.) 5. Increase Number of items to 50 to make sure that you get the full tables of contents. 6. Click Save. Step 4: Editing your saved search 1. Log in to MyNCBI. 2. In the Saved Searches box in your account, click on Manage Saved Searches to see all options or select the small gear link to edit an individual search.
