Front Royal, Inc.

Virginia Capital was the first institutional investor in this specialty lines property & casualty insurance underwriter. Virginia Capital and other subsequent investors provided capital for internal growth and acquisitions. Front Royal, Inc., after an attempted IPO in 1998, sold to Argo Group for $165 million in 2001. Virginia Capital formed a partnership with a seasoned tower executive in 2002 to purchase and construct tower sites. After funding $6 million of equity capital, Shared Tower Sites amassed a portfolio of approximately 40 tower sites. Global Tower Partners purchased Shared Tower Sites in 2005, providing a return to the equity holders of nearly $20 million. Virginia Capital was the first institutional investor in this clinical research organization, originally headquartered in Charlottesville, VA. Virginia Capital and other subsequent investors, including the Carlyle Group provided capital for internal growth and acquisitions. PRA International was sold in 2001 to a private equity group for $125 million. American Exposition Centers, LLC was formed by Virginia Capital Partners and management to purchase a local flea market from the founders. Management expanded the companys service offering and grew the business over several years. American Exposition Centers was sold in 2007 to a financial buyer. Virginia Capital partnered with a seasoned management team to form this specialty lines property & casualty insurance underwriter. After receiving approximately $80 million of private equity capital from Virginia Capital and other investors, James River went public in 2005. In 2007, DE Shaw acquired James River for $574 million.
