COURSE DESCRIPTION A course in composition for college freshmen to develop effective skills in writing. Emphasis is on sentence and paragraph writing in the form of written discourse and fundamentals of research writing. Students are expected to develop a portfolio of their written outputs in the different discourse. COURSE OBJECTIVES: -Analyze the process of effective composition -Distinguish the four forms of discourse according to their distinct characteristics -Write own sample composition for each form of discourse -Apply the principles of writing discourses in ones discipline -Analyze the fundamentals of research paper as to parts No. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) Teaching Learning Activities At the end of the course, the students shall be able to: (TLAs) Recognize the importance of words and its derivative Lecture discussion as well as meanings in composition Critiquing Demonstrate ability to construct grammatically correct sentences as prerequisite in composition writing Board work drills Realize the importance of pre-writing stage and apply in Oral discussion the actual writing Content analysis Determine the distinct characteristics of paragraph according to its types and uses Inductive Discovery approach Write sample compositions using the four forms of Reading of sample discourse compositions Apply the correct method in developing description Discuss the importance of narration Brainstorming Small group dynamics Assessment Tasks (ATs) Written quiz Written exercise Summative test Projects
