Chapter 1: Introduction: A good quality management team can make a better corporation. The most essential part is the competent team leader, the manager who has to take all the key decisions. They play a very vital role in accomplishments of goals of the corporation. Like all professions, management is the valuable Asset for successful organizations such as banks, firms, hospitals, educational institutions. The study of different styles of managers can help us a lot in our professional filed regardless of if we become managers or we are working under a manager. The ability to understand ones nature can add worthiness to his/her professional capabilities. This means that if a person is capable to understand the requirements of his/her superior so that he/he can work easily and accordingly. Managers are the key persons; they should know how to handle the different employees and situations according to their specified requirement. Different management styles can accomplish long and short term results. Role of Motivation:The question rises Why do we need motivated employees? The answer is survival (Smith, 1994). Motivated employees are needed in our rapidly changing workplaces as they help organizations to survive. Productivity comes from motivated employees. So managers need to understand what motivates employees so that effective outcome will be observed. Research suggests that as employees income increases; money becomes less of a motivator (Kovach, 1987). Motivation is the key to performance improvement. This is essential for any business to survive and succeed. According to the old saying that you can only take the horse to the water but you cannot force it to drink; it will drink only if it is thirsty. So same is the case with people at work. They will do only what they want to do unless they are motivated to do so. Participative Leadership:Participative leadership allows the employees to be involved in the decision-making of organizations through formal and informal means. This is very important in situations where employee feels his/her worthiness and importance in the organization. The topic of the research or study is: Impact of participative leadership on employee motivation in Mobilink and Warid. This topic of the study focuses on the employees motivation and the area which is going to be covered is the Pakistani Telecom Sector (Mobilink and Warid), so that successful business operations will be achieved and the not only the job satisfaction but also the personnel satisfaction. This also shows the ability to develop the competent and successful workforce.

Introduction Of Mobilink:Mobilink, a subsidiary of the Orascom Telecom Holding, is Pakistans leading cellular and Blackberry service provider. With more than 31.6 million subscribers, Mobilink maintains market leadership through cutting-edge, integrated technology, the strongest brands and the largest portfolio of value added services in the industry, a broadband carrier division providing next generation internet technology as well as the countrys largest voice and data network with over 8,000 cell sites. Introduction of Warid:Warid Telecom is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Group & SingTel Group. Abu Dhabi Group entered into a strategic alliance with Singapore Telecom. Subsequent to this transaction in July 2007, telecom giant SingTel acquired 30% percent equity stake in Warid Telecom, Pakistan, for US$758 million. This partnership is part of a strategy to support Warid Telecoms continued growth and to enhance its market position. Abu Dhabi Group, one of the largest business groups in the Middle East and the single largest foreign investor in Pakistan. It has diversified business interests, offering strong financial resources and extensive management expertise that result in commercial success for several institutions Background Study: Mobilink and Warid are the two giants in telecom sector in Pakistan. Their employees are well motivated, and management plays an important role for their success, thats why customers are more interested in their products and services. So the focus is to overlook how that management plays a successful role in bringing up the employees morale and satisfaction. Rationale:The rationale or purpose of the study is very clear, because the reason of selecting the topic or doing research is important for todays crisis and abnormality. If we look in to the past, we can see a lot of jobs problems, natural disasters, and financial crisis did hit Pakistan very badly, our economy destabilizes, employees are facing situation in which they have been declined morally and financially. In other words their jobs have become less secure. There is a need to point out the issues and what maximum can be done for better future. In other words, what successful organizations do for their success and stability. Objectives: The objectives of this research summarize following key points: To determine the level of participation a leader encourage in both organizations. To determine the overall level of motivation of employees in both organizations.
2

To determine the effect of the participative leadership on the employee motivation. To compare the level of motivation of both organizations. To suggest ways for the improvements. Significance: The project research is significant as suggested by Lewis and Renn (1992), Poor Performance: In the light of companys poor performance, Leader may realize the need to involve employees in decision making in order to help the company turn around profitability. This could heighten the morale and encourage the employees to search for ways to save costs and improved productivity. Keeping with changes: It has been proved that traditional style may not be suitable for the rapid changes regarding organizations. They may not be worthy to adopt new technology including training etc. The participation of the employees and their collective talents and knowledge can improve the overall quality of decision-making in the face of organizational uncertainties. Building Relationships: Participative leadership is also adopted to create better relationships between management and the employees. Lawler (1990) stated that it could help the organization to understand and approach the reality of how people should be treated: with respect; dignity; democratic rights; individual rights. By keeping in view of these points the management and employees can make better understanding and trust worthy relations can be developed. Benefits of the study:The research is carried out to ensure key benefits: Quality and Productivity:A basic benefit of motivation is that the motivated employees always look for better ways to do a job, so that quality of work and productivity can be achieved.

Recognition:3

Recognition is an appreciation for some achievement When employees accomplish something they must have achieved something. I believe that most leaders and managers don't give enough recognition to the employees, they should need to change their attitude. Work Environment:Good working environment is necessary for the employees to give productivity and profitability. This is an environment the leader and manager should create for his/her workforce. Team Spirit:Motivation also involves heightening of team spirit. In order to perform the work efficiently and effectively, team spirit should be boosted. Have a picture taken on your entire staff (including you!), have it enlarged and hang it in a visible spot. Most people like to physically see themselves as part of a group or team. Conflict Management:Good working environment in which employees are recognized, spirited, and well motivated, this leads to conflict management.

Research Design: The research design for this study employed a descriptive survey method. The target population of the study included employees at the local cellular services providers which included the major providers, Mobilink, Warid and Telenor. The sample size included all 25 employees of the target population within each organization. All 25 employees participated in the survey for the motivation level of the employee and their opinions regarding their managers. The organizations are located within Rawalpindi/Islamabad city. Variables: Following variables will be taken: 1. Level of employee motivations. 2. Participative style of management. 3. Job satisfaction Convenience Sampling: Convenience sampling is a sampling technique where subjects are selected because of their convenient accessibility and proximity to the researcher. The sampling is selected because it has been the best way of getting some basic information quickly and efficiently. Information will be collected from those who will be easily available.

Data Collection Sources:

Primary Sources
5

The primary source of data collection is the employees of selected organizations, this means that according to the research employees of Mobilink and Warid are selected. Secondary Sources To narrow down the problem, secondary data will be collected from relevant websites, books, and journals. Data Collection Tools/Instruments: Questionnaire is the tool of data collection. Questionnaires are in the form of written survey, participants will be asked to fill the questionnaire form and they will fill it and return. The questions will be close ended questions. The form will ask the participants to rank the importance of 10-14 factors that are motivated them in doing their work: 5= Strongly Agree 1= Strongly Disagree. Reasons: Following are the reasons of choosing close ended questions: Closed-ended questions are more quickly and easily analyzed. Every answer can be given a number or value so that a statistical interpretation can be assessed. Closed-ended questions can be more specific, thus more likely to communicate similar meanings. They require less time involvement. . Due to work load and heavy customer dealings with real time services, closed ended questions will suit employees working in Mobilink and Warid. Subjects/Participants: The target population of the research included employees at the local cellular service providers which included the major companies which are: Mobilink and Warid. The sample size included all 25 employees of the target population within each organization. All these 25 employees participated in the survey for the motivational level of the employees and their opinions regarding their managers. The organizations are located within Rawalpindi/Islamabad city. As mentioned above, convenience sampling will be used for the research. In all forms of research, it would be ideal to test the entire population, but in most cases, the population is just too large that it is impossible to include every individual. This is the reason why most researchers rely on sampling techniques like convenience sampling.

Fieldwork/Data Collection: A written questionnaire is a data collection tool in which written questions are presented to be answered by the respondents in written form. The process of profiling the data to discover inconsistencies, and other anomalies in the data and performing data cleansing activities (e.g. removing outliers, missing data interpolation) to improve the data quality. The survey will be conducted normally in office timings because availability of target population and before conducting survey, a formal approval will be taken from management. The survey will be divided into not more than three hours. Warid, Mobilink, and Telenor companies will provide access For the survey, in such case our research does not involve confidential documents or data, they are Just the point of views and opinions and most importantly in that written survey there is no need to identify the names of respondents. Data Processing & Analysis: Data will be arranged in tabulation sheets against each predetermined factor. Frequency Distribution is expressed as percentage value (within parenthesis) of total number of response against each parameter. It is a way of showing unorganized data e.g. to show results of an election, income of people for a certain region. Comparative percentage analysis will be done for two companies. Frequency Distribution:Frequency distribution is selected because of following reasons: First of all, frequency distribution is the most common type, the data which will be collected from Mobilink and Warid employees will be in raw or unorganized form. The organizing of data or the structuring of data can be easily maintained with the help of groups. The processing and analyzing of results can be obtained easily. 3. Biblography Kovach, K. A.
