American Red Cross Homeless Shelter

A 12-hour emergency shelter for homeless men, women, and families. Not an end, but a beginning... ______________________________________ The American Red Cross has provided shelter for the homeless since 1988. It operates a year-round 48 bed shelter with supporting services. These services include medical care, mental health, etc. In addition, the goal is to address the individual needs of each guest, giving the homeless the opportunity to develop and use independent living skills. This program offers hope to those who are considered hopeless in their own eyes or by others.

_________________________________________ To meet the temporary shelter needs of a diverse group of individuals who for any reason are homeless in the community. We try hard to create a safe environment that is free of discrimination and respects human dignity. We get this by providing positive role models, community education, and support systems which develop guests, volunteers and staff, with a focus on long-term solutions. _________________________________________ The shelter is run by trained volunteers from many different careers, former guests, retired people, youth, and all walks of life. 93% of every dollar contributed to the American Red Cross is used for programming expenses. __________________________________________________ Individuals and families with insufficient income to provide housing for themselves Victims of domestic violence Victims of abuse Mentally challenged Veterans Physically handicapped _________________________________________ Over 6000 homeless men, women, and children served since 1988 The American Red Cross

About the Shelter The American Red Cross has provided shelter for the homeless since 1988. It operates a year-round 48 bed congregate shelter with supportive services. These services include medical care, mental health intervention, and substance abuse outreach. In addition, a case management component is provided by the staff for the shelter. The goal of case management is to address the individual needs of each guest, enabling the homeless to develop and use independent living skills. This program offers hope to those who are deemed hopeless in their own eyes or by others.
