Setting Up Your Own FTP Server

We recommend using Serv-U FTP server to setup your FTPs because it is by far the best we have seen.

Why do I want to setup a FTP server? Many of us should have observed that the computer becomes dead slow when downloading or uploading on dc++. And the download speeds are too slow between some users due to some unknown (possibly the network) problem. And worst of all is the hashing and verifying hash, the system almost becomes irresponsive. On both the server and client side, ftp consumes little system resources. In ftp you can serve and download files with high speeds without any significant load on the server. So ftp is a better solution for those who wants to serve with many downloaders. The best of all is you can upload files into the server if it is allowed by the server.

INSTALLATION:
1. Download the Serv-U FTP Server shared on dc.(or visit ftp://10.94.9.116) 2. Click on the install icon .This is what you should see.

Click on Next. 3. This is what you should see. Just click Next.

4.Click Next.

5. UNCHECK the box indicated and click Finish.

6. Now for cracking the software: End the process ServUDaemon.exe with the task manager if running. Copy and paste the crack in the folder in C:\Program Files\RhinoSoft.com\Serv-U (If C is the drive where you installed it.) 7. Now you are done with the installation.

SETTING UP THE SERVER

1. Now you have to start the Serv-U daemon process
(ServUDaemon.exe) as shown below.

2. Then start the Serv-U Admin process(ServUAdmin.exe) as show above. 3. The admin program can be accessed with the tray icon too. If any user32.dll error comes then install the xp hotfix(WindowsXPKB935448-x86-ENU) included. 4. After installing the fix you can start the server admin process. 5. Now what you see should be the figure below.

Click on Next.

4.

Click Yes.

5.

Click Next. 6. Then the server slowly starts up and this is the screen you should see.

Dont click anything . The screen which follows up will be as shown.

Click Next. Note : Your ftp address will be now ftp://ip_address or ftp://computer_name . (though ftp://computer_name can be accessed only usin clients or windows explorer but not browsers.) 1. Then give a name to your domain. (under which all the users will be.)

Click Next.

7.

Check YES and click Next. 8.CREATING USERS: There are two types of user accounts. Anonymous: By creating anonymous users you will be allowing anonymous access to your FTP.

Check YES and click Next. 9. Creating an anonymous Home directory: You have to create a directory for any user onto which all the shared folders of an user will be mapped to. Ex. Here I created a directory as C:\FTP

Then browse to the directory in the screen in Serv-U

As shown here.

- Then check the option to lock users in their home directory.

Named Account: These users created can give restricted access to their FTP by giving a login and password. Password can be set to anonymous users also but is not adviced to do so.

Check YES if you want to create a named account. Then click next.(Here I checked no).The steps for creating a named account will be similar to anonymous as shown above !!! 10. Click Finish.

Now you have successfully setup your FTP Server.

Sharing The Folders In Your FTP

1. Go to Domain_name\Settings and click on Virtual paths.Enter the URL you want to share in the Physical path or browse to the folder as shown.(Here I am sharing the folder E:\Amrutham.)

2. Now map the folder to the home directory of the user which you created while creating the user account.(My home directory is C:\FTP). NOTE: Only mapped folders are available for sharing. If you share a folder to a user it will not be shared unless it is mapped to the users home directory.

3. Then enter the name under which you want your shared folder to be seen(This will be the display name of the share in the list when the server is accessed irrespective of the folders original name).

4. Now go to the Anonymous/DirAccess and click Add. Browse to the folder you shared before again.

5. After sharing all your folders your virtual mapping should look like this.
