Motorcycle sales in Bangladesh dropped 30% in fiscal year 2008 due to rising fuel prices and economic slowdown. The General Secretary of the Bangladesh Motor Cycle Dealers Association reported that sales fell mainly because of higher fuel costs and increased registration fees. Two motorcycle dealers also said that their monthly sales decreased from 40 to 15-20 units and 4000 to 3000 units respectively in the last fiscal year. While sales may increase before upcoming national elections due to campaigning needs, higher fuel prices continue to negatively impact motorcycle purchases, especially among lower-middle and middle class buyers.
