For Residential or Commercial Radiant Heating and Snow Melt Applications

Copper Manifolds

Installation of Heating PEX and Heating PEX-AL-PEX Copper Manifolds. Product Description
Watts Copper Manifolds with compression connections are designed to be used with Heating PEX or Heating PEX-AL-PEX tubing in radiant heating and snow melting applications, with water or water/glycol solutions. No other tubing type may be used with this manifold. Copper Manifolds are composed of type "L" copper and are available in 1"(25.4 mm) and 1-1/4" (31.7 mm) trunk diameter. Installed equipment includes: circuit mini-ball valves trunk unions vent/purge assembly manifold mounting brackets T20 compression fittings Accessories include: pressure test kit manifold mounting box. All manifolds have a maximum operating pressure of 100 psig at 200F (93C).

Installation Parameters
Each zone will generally have one manifold pair - a supply and a return. With respect to any design, the manifold location has a direct impact not only on the aesthetics of a room, but also on the tubing being installed. 1. M anifolds should be placed in a location that allow them to remain accessible, but also out of sight. Cabinets, behind doors, and in closets are good locations. These locations allow for the use of a cover plate or manifold box over the manifold to keep the assembly hidden from everyday view. 2. M anifold placement determines the minimum tubing circuit length. The minimum circuit length is the distance from the manifold to the farthest point, taking right angles, and back. For most residential projects using 1/2" (12.7 mm) tubing, 200 ft. (61 m) circuits are adequate. For most commercial projects using 3/4" (19 mm) tubing, 300 - 400 ft. (91 m - 122 m) circuits are used. 3. L ocate the manifold within the given zone. If a manifold is located outside the zone boundary, then twice the distance (supply and return) to the manifold needs to be added to each circuit length. For example, if a zone calls for 180 ft. (54.8 m) circuits, and the manifold is moved to a location 10 ft. (3 m) away, then 20 ft. (6 m) is added to the circuit. The circuit lengths required for this zone will be 200 ft. (61 m). 4. M anifolds should be mounted horizontally, whenever possible. This allows for easier circuit connection to the manifold. Also, the vent/purge assembly installed on the manifold pair, must be mounted horizontally in order to allow the vents to work properly without leaking. 5. M anifold sizes are based on the zone flow rates (g.p.m.). The smallest manifold trunk size provided by Watts 1" (25.4 mm). For commercial and snow melting applications the larger 1-1/4" (31.7 mm) manifolds, are available. Note: See Manifold Mounting Boxes Installation Sheet for further information. Note: See Manifold Mounting Brackets Installation Sheet for further information. Note: Manifolds mounted upside down may cause the vent/purge assembly to leak and/or not function as desired. Accessories must be ordered separately.
