Sam, What are your New Years resolutions? -Whitney Landry

Ryan, What is your favorite time of the year? - Chancey Smith

Ngoc, What have you never gotten as a gift, but always wanted? - Jennifer McClure

Kathryn, How do I put together the best Tacky Christmas outt for the seasons many parties? -Molly Sanchez

World Peace? Nahhh. Running a marathon? HA. ats cute. If I were to be completely honest, Id have to say my New Years resolutions would be not to fall in love, fall asleep (rumor has it bouncers dont take too kindly to that) or--you know-just FALL in a bar downtown again. Actually Ive only done two of those before...Ill let you guess which.

Fall happens to take the gold on this one. Id like to state, and I feel like a lot of people agree with me on this one, that everyone looks their best in the fall. With autumn comes jackets, boots, and multiple layers that people have been desperately waiting to wear as the malicious Texas summer finally nears its end. I dig the attitude of dress to impress, and it works best in autumn weather!

Ever since I was old enough to play with toys, I always wanted a Barbie doll. Dont get me wrong I did have dolls to play with but I did not want just any doll, but a Barbie brand doll. Isnt that an essential part of every girls doll collection? Until this day, I have yet to call a Barbie doll my own.

You can easily throw together a great out t with very little cash. Swing by thrift stores for a great selection of holiday sweaters. e older, bulkier, and gaudier, the better. Plus, you can make accessories out of anything. Turn ornaments into jewelry and garland into a belt. Go crazy and have fun!

Stockz
Hip-Hop Is Where Its At
ecently I had a chance to talk with an upcoming rapper, originally from Virgina but currently residing in Houston. Myles Andersonaka Stockz- has a dream to make real Hip-Hop music. His producer JustWorthy is one of his biggest influences, and when theyre listening to NWA or rap hes confident to say his love resides in Hip-Hop. He found his passion for rap when his mother grounded him from his skateboard. He started to write and fell in love with reciting. When sophomore year of high school hit, he starting recording the music he had created. I guess punishment isnt so bad after all, Stockz concluded. He then graduated from Taylor High School, and decided that he would start

his music career full force after graduation. I chose to skip college because I have passion for music and believe I can make something great out of it, said Stockz. Stockz is primarily influenced by the world around him, and his character was developed by the inspiration he found when cruising around on his skateboard. Im just a free spirit, Stockz said. He wants to live life to the fullest through the tough and easy times. In the near future, Stockz would want to work with Kendrick Lamar, Marx De Lux, Kanye West and Big Sean. He would love to work with other artists as well, but these four people in particular have inspired him to become the artist he is today. But Stockz does have an original feel to his music that he applies to his own tracks and when covering songs by other rappers. Stockz also creates videos on YouTube called TwoFer Tuesdays, every Tuesday he puts out two freestyles/remixes to other peoples tracks to give the viewers something to listen to with a different style. Stockz raps both about his life experiences and what he dreams about, telling stories with his rhymes. He raps about a concept he created called Wealth Life, which doesnt require riches, but is just the way to get the most out of your life and everything you do. His goal for next year is to be at the 2012 BET Awards and SXSW with his EP out for sale. Hes currently working on promotions, videos, photos and, of course, music. Catch his latest project, Breathing Room, out now.

HOT PHOTOGRAPHER
Kenworthy Uleanya

KENWORTHY ULEANYA
CREATIVE PASSION
Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, Kenworth Ulleanya was born and raised a Northerner, but he has finally set his foot in good ol Texas. Attending the University of Houston, Ken is not only pursuing his undergraduate degree but also his lifelong dreams and goals, one of which is photography. I had the opportunity to hear some of his thoughts on this simple yet technical hobby.
All Of The Lights

What sparked your passion for photography? I fell in love with photography because it gives you the ability to freeze a moment and have that memory last forever! Can you describe that defining moment or image that made you want to become a photographer? Summer 2009, my dad bought a Nikon Coolpix camera. I picked it up, went out to the backyard and somehow managed to get a great picture of a dragon fly. I was astounded at the detail of its wings that I never even bothered to pay attention to previously. Another motivation for getting into photography is my interest in films. I love short conceptual films and always wanted to write and direct one of those. Through photography, I have developed an artistic eye for detail and also acquired knowledge of lighting, which can make or break any film or photo. What is the hardest part when shooting? When shooting for myself, there really isnt any hard part. I just let myself enjoy what Im doing and I just shoot away! Quite relaxing actually. What kind of photography do you enjoy shooting? I love doing concert photography. I have tried my hand at everything else from fashion photography to landscape photography, but I find myself always coming back to concert photography. What is the best advice you would give a photographer just starting out? Never let go of your camera. Shoot anything and everything.

WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE? I started using a Canon Rebel XS with the kit 18-55mm lens, but I recently upgraded to a 60D with a 28-135mm lens. I also own a 30 year old Canon 50mm lens 1.4 which was passed down to me by a photographer I met on Flickr!

Kenworthy Uleanya

Is there something you always ask yourself or think just before you push the shutter button? Its weird, but I say think fast! in my head right before I take a picture. Ive never said that to anybody before. The key to creativity is Not giving a f*ck what anyone else thinks. When you have other people in mind while doing your art, you end up been too conscious to actually create something you like. Equate art to freedom of expression, and that is the only way you can truly be creative to the highest extent. Do you consider yourself an artist? I do consider myself an artist. I feel that everyone is an artist as long as you have the ability to be free and create something that you look at and you are pleased with yourself.

The Dark Room Of Hope

Soul Sista

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE

photograph youve ever taken?

Theres this candid shot I got of my friend Desire Davis called Soul Sista. The picture is so simple and she seemed all in her element. I feel like I caught a very peaceful moment. I still cant quite lay my fingers on whats so special about that picture, but I know it makes me happy every time I see it.

NEW YEARS EVE

Two words: Go Crazy. OD on excess and go for the glimmer with clothes that would be just a little too much on any other given day. Pair a slinky sequined dress and glitter pumps for a fun and easy way to take the party with you wherever you go. After all, everyone loves a human disco ball.

MEET THE BOYFRIENDS PARENTS

Just because youre getting introduced to Mom and Pop doesnt mean you have to throw fashion out the window; a cute dress is still totally appropriate and perfect for impressing his style maven mother. Cover up with a holiday-inspired cardigan and opaque tights, and be sure to bring a gift. Even if its something small, it gives the impression youre nice, thoughtful and wont screw over their son.

CHRISTMAS
Christmas Eve is one of the most magical nights of the yearwhether youre ve, 15 or 50. Go all out and decorate yourself in red, white and green, because today its totally okay to look like a Christmas tree. Have fun with holidayinspired accessories like jingle bells and candy canes, and pull your whole look together with patterned stockings and a red bow. We hear Santa likes that.

NEW YEARS DAY

An amazing last-night-of-2011 will inevitably be followed by a horrendously hungover rst-day-of-2012. You may feel like ass, but you dont have to look like it, so nd a middle ground. Throw on cute but comfy clothes that rep your team for a day of college football and bloody marys. Hair of the dog, ya dig?

MY HUYNH

FROM BOSTON TO HOUSTON, HER HOME AWAY FROM HOME

My Huynh, 20 Hometown: Boston, MA Major: Hotel & Restaurant Management
Weve all heard horror stories about how cramped and dirty dorm rooms may be, but for most of us, dorm rooms are our home away from home for four years. My Huynh was born and raised in Boston, Mass. She chose to attend the University of Houston because of the excellent hotel and restaurant management program that is offered at the school. Because home is hundreds of miles away, she had to adapt quickly to the hot Houston weather since moving, shes able to focus on school, maintain a good relationship with her roommate and friends, and experience a great college journey. Most importantly, My was able to make this new environment as cozy as can be. Study Breaks chatted with My and hear her thoughts about her first experience away from home.

Dorm bathrooms can be small. Plan on getting a bathroom organizer like this one.

How do you like living at Moody Towers? Its convenient. Im from out of state, so I have no car or sense of direction in Houston. Im able to leave my dorm room and be in class in 10 minutes. I dont have to fight the morning traffic or finding a parking spot! Describe your room: Its my own place where I can do my work and relax. Im a pretty simple person, so it has everything I need. One thing you cannot live without? I love my Macbook, I dont know what I would do with it. Whats one thing in your room that best describes you? My clothes are a way for me to express myself. I can wear any style I want to show how I feel. My dorm room floor theme, Finding Nemo!

What do you hate most about living in the dorms? I hate the bathrooms. Each floor that we are on has community bathrooms. People come and go all the time; it doesnt give a sense of privacy. How are the floors divided? Each floor is a boy or a girl floor, and each floor has a certain theme. My RA chose our theme to be Finding Nemo. Its supposed to represent the creativity of each dorm floor. Were you scared to move to Texas? I was more excited than scared. I wanted to be on my own and do things Ive never done before. I wanted to make my college life more eventful, so I decided to do something crazy by going to Houston. Any rumors that you were told about Texas? I havent heard any rumors about Houston, except the fact that it gets super hot! I cant stand the humidity! Texas is so different from Boston! Each floor has a bulletin board where residents can put up personal notes.

SPOTLIGHT PROPERTY

Cullen Oaks of The University of Houston

(713) 748-3707 4600 Cullen Blvd
Cullen Oaks is one of the few apartments that are located on campus. It has a convenient location that has a variety of floor plans for students to choose from. The apartment comes full furnished with cable, phone and Internet. Tenants can enjoy the perks of living here by enjoying the fitness center, basketball court, study lounge, billiards tables and many more. Cullen Oaks is one of the few places to have a bus stop at the entrance, so no need to run in the rain or walk in Houstons hot heat. It was built in mind of what a college student will enjoy, so this is the place to live, study, and play.

Jenny Ozuna, 20
The reason why I live at Cullen Oaks is because of how convenient it is. Im not from Houston so not having to drive in yalls crazy traffic and crazy drivers is a plus for me. Plus, I dont have to worry about parking and I can sleep in later than if I lived off campus.
