During this month of November we should thank God for the great Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession, by which we are cleansed of our sins to prepare us for eternal happiness with God. On Friday, November 11th, our secular society jogged our memories to honour another group of the deceased to whom we owe so much, i.e. the boys and girls from our towns in Canada who bravely left their homes and families to protect our lives, our life style and our freedoms including the freedom to practice our Catholic Faith. They generously gave their lives in |France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Afghanistan and elsewhere for us. It is only right that on November 11 our whole country pauses for a moment to honour and remember them. The memory of our loved ones who have died should inspire us as Catholics and Canadians and Knights of Columbus into action. We should do something to help our loved ones. God is all good and deserving of all our love. Since He is all good, He cannot tolerate any evil or sin, which is an offense against Him. Sin is not tolerated in His presence in Heaven. Each of us has been Our relatives in Purgatory, our Brother Knights there, cannot help themselves. But they are powerful intercessions for us if we pray to them. They depend upon you and me and our prayers to hasten them from their sufferings and help them towards Heaven. When you became a Knight of Columbus, a bond of unity and fraternity was formed between you and all the Knights of Columbus which is not broken by death. November reminds us of our fraternal duty to pray daily for our Brother Knights and our relatives and all the Souls in Purgatory that they may soon see God face to face.

Some confusion to be expected

Next weekend we begin using the new English translation of the Roman Missal. Both priests and people will have to re-learn prayers and responses memorized long ago. Chants used during the Mass will also change. Will there be confusion? Why of course! It will take us a few weeks to get into the rhythm and feel at home. Keep your sense of humour and smile when your tongue trips you up. Remember ... every English-speaking Catholic in the world is going through the same thing.

Don't forget to bow

The bishops of Canada ask all Catholics to bow their heads before receiving communion on the hand or on the tongue. By this simple gesture we profess our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Parents, please take a moment to instruct your children in the proper reception of Holy Communion.
